*Summary: The Explorer's Guild sends a security party to Greenholme to pick up some supplies. When they arrive, there is a problem. The town is on fire and under attack! The party attacks! The enemy leader is identified with fireworks, and a Worg, then a hippogryph are sent in to attack him, while everyone else melees and shoots at the enemy troups. The adventurers seem to be prevailing, but the fight isn't over!</div>

It's a milk run...

Partially. Really, there's milk, blankets, assorted salted meats, case of assorted jams and sacks of grain flour loaded onto a wagon at the town of Greenholme intended for the town of Tref, it just needs to be picked up. They've requested additional security and, while the main forces of the nation were busy with other affairs, the request was put to the Explorer's Guild, who then passed the contract to the group.

The trip toward Greenholme is mostly uneventful, the roads are well traveled enough for the season not to be an issue to the issued mounts, and most of the wildlife is laying low for the same reason. And as they are drawing near to the hill overwhich the town resides, the assorted adventurers are doing:

Cryosanthia is riding in front. Not that she is all that good at spotting things, like ambushes, it's more a practical choice. As the largest, most visible thing in the group she'll draw fire so she might as well be placed for it. Still, she is keeping a look out, scanning the hills and being suspicious.

The sith-makar leans and looks back along the line of adventurers. She raises her hand, wriggles her fingers through an Arcane gestures and points the rearmost. There's a brief glow along her arm, and she says, "Message again, can you hear me?". At the end of the queue her voice echoes quietly beside her target.

Shym'r seems content to relax on her horse at the back of the group as they leave from Greenholme. She's not quite adept on a horse, but an elf with a bow. Is there anything scarier?......

It might be a bit odd to see a Truthsayer along on a run like this. Run meant specifically for security, but maybe someone wanted an envoy along from the Daeusites anyhow, in case there was an issue with the handoff of the goods? Who knows. Either way, this brings Zant, with his inexplicable dual scarves here, riding just behind and to the side of Cryo...

...And shaking faintly on his horse every now and then, with the bumps and sways involved. This is not a man who is used to riding horseback, and it *shows*. "Easy, easy..." He mumbles down to his mount, the hue of his otherwise-darker face grown a bit paler.

This is Poc's first ever mission! Having signed up to the Explorer's Guild only days before, you can imagine the gobber's utter thrill when learning that he had been posted to something. Granted it wasn't anything involved in saving the world from dragons, but everyone had to start somewhere, right? Hell - Poc is starting from a position that is pretty much on the bottom of the ladder. Unlike perhaps a few of his adventuring counterparts, he has no personal mount. And given his size, he isn't lent a horse. He is given a cool looking wolf! With a natural affinity to riding such a beasty, he has little issue keeping balance as he trundles along. With a goblin-sized longbow slung across his body, his beady yellow eyes from behind his wooden mask. He rides at the front, keen to look ahead.

"Horses are some of my favorite people." Aodhan says absently as he rides along near the front, even as his chatter is a little odd, his eyes search the sides of the road carefully. He sniffs a few times as if the dust from riding is irritating but the sniffing stops. His idle chat goes silent as he focuses on the ride, not being the most proficient himself.

Garrett needed money to get his gear for more difficult heists. Which meant he did drudgery. Still he was here and he watches the sides of the road. Dressed in his black leather armor, he just sighs as he looks to Cryosanthia. "Do sith have wizards?" He asks curiously as he is sitting on the wagon, hands holding the reins in a basic fashion.

"No, we have Shamans and Lore-Keepers. They do the rituals and keep the books." Cryosanthia replies, continuing to scan the edges of the road as she rides along. "I prefer swiftclaws to horses. They defend themselves a little better."

"You got to understand, horses arent predators so they know how to run good." Garrett explains as he sniffs the air. "I dont like the smell of this...Something's burning. Any chance we can stop and let me scout ahead?" He asks as he looks to the other riders and then back to Cryosanthia.

"Everyone please stop." Aodhan seems quite serious as he slows his horse even further. "I smell something off. A wood fire." Sniffing once again. "Burning flesh." He frowns as he takes his bow from carry to a more ready position.

"POC SMELLS FIRE!" The goblin suddenly cries out, nose twitching from beneath the mask he wears. "Right ahead!" Being a creature that is simply /obsessed/ with fire, he can tell when something is burning. That unique fragrance is something that will forever make him smile. Squinting, he tries to find out what it is. Turning about from his forward position, Poc looks to his fellow adventurers with an air of expectation. "What group do? Smell like it coming from ahead. Cart still safe to deliver?" The wolf he's upon growls a little in annoyance, also perhaps smelling the flames.

"Good idea! Garrett good to go scout. Oh. What? Flesh?" Blink. "/Human/ flesh?" Poc licks his lips. Suddenly he's getting hungreh.

"...Burning flesh?" Zant's face somehow turns even paler now, which just makes the vision clash even further with his regular skin tone. "I, er-- I don't suppose it could just be someone having a fire to roast a boar, or something?"

Shym'r is completely oblivious, so she really doesn't notice until others speak up. She does look to Zant briefly. "mmmm....You're definitely an optimist..."

"We should send some scouts ahead, I would volunteer as well." Aodhan shakes his head for a moment. "I am unsure." Looking to Zant with a bit of a frown. "Anyway we should check things out in case."

Cryosanthia is equally oblivious, although she likes the scouting idea. "Yes. Garrett, if you're good for that? Do you want to go ahead? Let me put a message on you so you can tell us what you see. I'm not sneaky at all, I would alert them."

She quickly fires off another cantrip so she can speak with Garret.

"This far away? The fire's big." Garrett says as he climbs off the wagon and pulls up the cloth to cover his face, making it so his eyes were the only ones seen. He begins to move on ahead, making no sound. He moves quickly and stealthily and off the path so no one can see him coming.

"Hope for the best and prepare for the worst, right...?" Murmurs Zant in return back to Shym'ra while he starts to try and ease himself off of his horse. "But even I do know that sun's light doesn't always reach every-WHOOP!" Inexperienced horse rider that he is, he ends up with his foot tangled in the spurs, and his shifting weight brings him ungracefully falling off back-first into a snowbank with a dull *THUMP!*

"Poc wishes luck! Good tidings on scouting! Remember to think like a leaf!" The goblin watches as the pair dart ahead to scout, before he turns to look at the others. "This mission going well, hm?" He gives his wolf a nice pat.

Growling, Aodhan doesn't do anything drastic merely looking over to Garrett. "We need to make a decision here." Master of the obvious but he seems to be ready to fight.

Garrett just remains in silence as he watches the carnage. He tries to move somewhere hidden before speaking into the message Cryosanthia. "Place is under attack. Bodies about and the way burning. Looks like some sort of army went through the whole thing." He says calmly as he moves about, adjusting his cloak to blend in further with the scenery.

"Decision is simple. We carry on and provide relief." Garrett says to the man as he tries to remain hidden.

Cryosanthia relays that information to the others hanging back with her, then thinks quickly. "Okay, make sure that army isn't still around somewhere. How much closer can we safely move up?"

Shym'r steps her way off the cart and draws an arrow. "We need to head up and see if there are survivors. Can we hide the animals?"

"Poc confused." The goblin admits. "Entire town destroyed? Still look for cart in fire?" Though he does enjoy fire, stepping through it didn't sound like the best idea. With Cryosanthia making the informed decisions, he falls into a bit of quietness. He's happy to just ride in the background and learn from the expert adventurers.

Zant's wild-maned head pops out into the open again from within the snow as he bounces up onto his feet, eyes blinking to the lizardgirl's way. "...I'm sorry, did you just say the town is *under attack*? Are we talking *right now* or are we walking into the aftermath?"

"Actually that's a good question, is the whole place on fire Garrett?" Cryo asks quietly. The Message cantrip should make her voice hard to overhear anyhow, but she's reluctant to speak loudly under the circumstances.

"We'll start moving up if you think it's safe. Is the attack in progress or over? Can you see combatants?"

Garrett just groans. "It is underattack now. And they see us. I suggest coming to reinforce us." Garrett says as he pulls out a folded hand crossbow and unfolds it and loads it. He then looks to Aodhan. "You may get your wish afterall." He says as he tries to hide once more.

"We do need to get the cart." Shym'r says softly. "We don't know." She says before starting to trot her way up....

The white-scale looks at the others, "Okay, they're coming for Garrett and Aodhan. We need to move up with them and get ready. I'm leaving my horse here. How many Garrett?" She hops off, crouches low and runs to get to the others. "C'mon."

"Poc ready to attack! Kya!" As he readies for battle, Poc squeezes his knees into the wolf that he rides upon. With a leap the four-legged creature leaps forth, taking the goblin to the scene to help back up Garrett and Aodhan. The bow he wears securely around his being shakes and trembles as the wolf runs at full speed, bringing the burning township into view.

"Atleast five, counting the guy in the palisade." Garrett says softly. He watches the others and he looks to the others. "Wouldnt want you lot to miss all the fun." He says sarcastically.

Reaching for an arrow in quick time, Aodhan norrow his eyes and grows still as he watches the man in padded armor get murdered in cold blood. "Garrett. 15 men. Some better armored than others. More uniformed." Keeping it short and sweet he tries to get down further, it may be too late for hiding.

Garrett says, "Make it fifteen"

"Oh *geez*." Zant does not look the faintest bit pleased, but he's quickly enough moving to jog along besides Cryosanthia. No matter how bad it might look for someone completely unarmed and unarmored to be running straight towards a battle. "What's your plan?!"

The scene is one of bedlam: One of the guard towers at the corner of the palisade has been torn free, anchoring grapnels embedded in the wood trailing severed ropes suggesting how it was done. On the other tower, an arm clad in padded armor dangling from the elbow over the rail, while a man in better, if ramshackle armor is sounding some sort of alarm. Beyond are fires and sounds of screaming. There is movement near the rent in the defensive wall.

Seeing the one coming up the palisade, Shym'r fires a pair of shots rather fast, but only one hits. It's not a bad hit, but still solid. "Keep an eye out for others."

Four men emerge in mismatched leather armor from the breach in the town's wall, while two more hunker down behind the fallen tower and the edge of the wall and start readying crossbows. They don't look particularly practiced at it, but they're getting it done. Meanwhile, amongst the screams, someone is bellowing some kind of orders.

"Stick close to me Zant. If they are close together try to get them with an area effect spell. Look for some place they might naturally funnel coming at us. Prioritize casters and healers if you can pick them out. Remember to back up if they get in your face." Cryosanthia explains while running up to Garrett's position, drawing her rapier, "Let me know if you've seen a leader, Garrett, I want them to know they're not untouchable here."

As she draws close, her sapphire eyes gleam like perfect gems in the cold winter light, "Wait, I see him! Big guy in chain with a black capelet on his right shoulder, what looks like a yellow boot in mid step emblazoned on it."

She flips her free hand through some arcane gestures, a little fire dragon appears on her finger, zips and zings all the way down, through the broken palisade and explodes in his face.

Cryo bellows, "YOU'RE IN RANGE!"

"Come on friends, your buddy needs ya." Aodhan whispers to himself as he closes his eyes and focuses on something. It takes no time until a dire wolf appears from the ether. Nine feet long and very very angry.

As soon as the massive dire wolf appears he and his considerable bulk sprints forward, as focused on killing as an apex predator can be. "Find the man responsible, yellow boot patch. Yelling." Aodhan speaks in a low voice, eyes locked on the four men approaching.

Poc marvels at Shym'r's ability to fire both of the arrows at once. He had seen that been done before by woodland elves, but not often. "Shym'r tell Poc how to do that!" Taking out his own bow, the goblin charges forward in order to press closer. As he readies the bow and lets the arrow fly, the gobber hesitates as the arrow just sort of falls out of his bow and onto the ground next to him. "Uh," Poc stammers, looking to the red-haired elf nearby. "That was a joke." He runs up closer anyway. Next time he'll get 'em!

"U-..uhm," Zant lets out sheepishly while he follows Cryo at her side. "A-...about that. I don't... know any magic, actually..." Well. And he doesn't even have any visible weapons on him, either. Akward.

He perks up a bit when Cryo describes the leader of the pack to the lot, however, and his head tilts slightly to the side. "...I would say these can't be regular bandits then, but the ones at the wall look too irregular to be part of any warband, either..." And then Cryo's making DRAGON-SHAPED FIREWORKS IN THE DISTANCE, and... he just stares with widened eyes. Easily impressionable, this one. "...Nice."

Bellows in another voice issue forth as another building behind the pallisade is apparantly put to the torch.

As the little dragon blows up in his face, the large blond staggers with a roar of dismay, flailing to get the remaining pyrotechnics away as he wipes at his eyes with the other hand. He looks around, but, while he can see the gthered party outside the wall, he has no way to know which one just sent him a care package and so he hastily jogs to the side to break line of sight.

Garrett moves closer, aiming his little crossbow up at the asshole in the tower. He fires, watches it hit, and he tries to keep out of reach of the ones running for him.

The guys in leathers are definitely bearing down on Shym'r and Poc, but Shym'r remains calm. "Concentrate on one shot at a time. In time you'll be able to shoot faster, but don't try now. For now....just follow my lead and take your time on your shots." She says as she fires another pair of shots, this time at the closer bandits coming at them. She backs up a few feet, but she lands one solid arrow in the bandit.

The boys are out of town! Some of them, anyway. Two go after the woman in plate, one swinging at butterflies with his short sword and a crazed yowling, while his partner, after an uncertain glance at the big bad wolf, backs him up with a tell thrust into a chink in the armor. Another goes after the goblin, though close, he makes no contact. The other swings at the masked man, but to no avail, while of the two crossbowmen, only the one aiming at Aodhan manages to land a nasty crossbow shot into his chest, though he misses the very important bits.

The party is split and getting surrounded! Cryosanthia forgoes the spells and rushes up, coming around Poc and thrusting with her rapier, taking careful aim for a gap in that patchwork armour. The point slides through! Blood is drawn!

She whips her blade out and flicks a spray of his own blood across his eyes. She hisses! "Next thrust is into your brain! You picked the wrong fight!"

"Zant! Why aren't you casting? Back us up!"

Just breath! Aodhan doesnt remember being in this much pain. Focus. Arrow to string, up, FIRE. With an arrow sticking from his chest he looses the returning arrow hitting the raider than nearly took him off his feet.

BLOOD and FLESH! The dire wolf digs in with powerful jaws locked into the would be "leader" of this band of scum. Growling deeply the wolf yanks his head left, trying to take the armored man from his feet to no avail.

"Poc trying! Poc trying so hard to take time!" Fumbling around for another arrow, Poc heeds the advice taken in from Shym'r and takes aim once more. Unfortunately, he finds himself under attack before he can even do that. "Woop!" Ducking under the blow that comes for him with somewhat surprising amounts of dexterity, the unarmored goblin turns to take aim at the raider that Shym'r took aim at just before. "...ugh." He can't fire. Not when his comrade is so close. Not to mention the guy right on him! So, with his bow still wielded, Poc does a very neat little twist before throwing his foot right into his foes gut! ...he's not very strong, but damage in damage. "Big man take on small gobber? Shame shame!" Pause. "Poc kick mans face in!"

"Maybe I we can try negotiating with them if we manage to get to their leader first--" Zant suggests just before Cryo sweeps in to assist the rest of the party with her rapier, and... calls him out on not casting spells. Again.

"I don't *know* any spells!!" He calls back, with helpless armflailing. "Oh hell, it doesn't look like they will want to listen anyway--"

Zant does not, in fact, cast a spell. Instead, he pounces forward in a sudden blur of motion, and in nearly a blink of an eye, he is besides Shym'r, knees bent down to lower his posture slightly with one fist SLAMMED right into the thug's midsection with lung-emptying force. "I can't promise my friends will be as gentle as I am, you know!"

Out of sight, the leader is bellowing orders and taking his rage out on Aodhan's worg. A loud yelp is heard as one of his weapons connects.

Arrows are flying. Shym'r puts two in her target, he's dead before he hits the ground and stapled to it for good measure.

As the battle continues, Shym'r manages to edge back and unleash two quick shots at her assailant, he starts to fall on the first, but she buries the second to the fletchings just under his sternum and he lands still in the snow. Poc's assailant misses, and Cryosanthia's foe manages to wake the Dragon within her, and tastes deeply of her steel as a reward but he remains undaunted! One of the men at the breach fires off into the sunset, while the unleashes a bolt that shrieks past Aodhan's ear.

As one of the Boys comes at Cryosanthia and she circles her blade around his, pushing it out of the way as she jams the point down into his leg in a perfect parry and riposte.

Next she coils back like, then strikes out with a straight thrust like a snake. She finds a gap and her rapier goes into his underarm and scrapes along the inside of his shoulder blade. She pulls the point free and waves it, "Noo..."

It's a painful attack, but not a frightening one.

Pivoting to the side Aodhan clenches his fists. As the pain continues to radiate from the arrow still burrowed in his chest he growls, "Come Hippogriff! Give an ally some assistance aye?" In moments a loud call reverberates from overhead, on a massive wingspread the hybrid creature soars towards the dire wolf that is in need of assistance.

After receiving a nasty blow from his prey the dire wolf goes in for another strike, alas the mark is missed the sound of jaws clamping shut is heard over the din of battle.

After dodging another blow coming his way, Poc attempts to strike again! This time he misses big time, causing the goblin to grimace in embarrassment. "Come on, Poc! Get head in game!" Grumble grumble.

With the man engaging Shym'r turned into a pincushion, Zant sweeps into motion with a flutter of his two scarves, leaping into the air in a spin. A spin that carries his outstretched leg into the shoulder of the bandit engaged in melee with Poc, slamming him right down onto the ground and bouncing into the air again. Only for Zant, upon landing onto his feet, to use the additional force of gravity bringing him down to pummel his fist into the airborne thug and slam him right back into the ground all over again, to properly ensure he's out for the count.

"Are you alright?" He asks of the Goblin, then. "Put some fire on the archers if you are!"

<br>The man before you looks to be in his late teens early twenties. with dark rich brown hair and emerald green eyes, he has fair skin and seems to be built for speed rather then strength.He wears a suit of black studded leather armor with a black hood and, with special boots which muffle his footsteps and gloves with the fingertips missing.

<br>He has a bolt carry case at his hip and a shortsword sheathed at his him, a hand crossbow at his side and a pack on his back.
Standing at an inch under three feet tall, the green-skinned Poc looks a little different to most goblins. The only real 'armour' that covers his frame is a short leather kilt that hangs from his hip, along with a leather chest harness over the top of some animal fur across his shoulders. The harness has a few leaf-carved stones attached to it, looking to be more decorative than anything else. Leather straps can be seen bound across his bare feet and shins, along with his hands and forearms. His beady yellow eyes can be seen through a wooden mask that sits on his head, itself decorated with some ornate designs and carvings and dried brown leaves. The big ears that point out to the side of his head are pierced, with one golden earring in his right ear and one in his left. The only weapon on his frame is a longbow, slung across his shoulder neatly.

<br>Standing no more than 5 feet tall, this woman has dark skin for her body, which makes her blue eyes and red hair stand out, all the more. Her ears are pointed, marking her easily as an elf, but she also has full lips. Her red hair is normally in a ponytail or a braid, but it falls down to her waist in either case.
<br>She is wearing metallic plate armor with angular plates upon it. The shoulder plates are raised a bit to protect her head, and the legs are a little smoother than the greaves, shoulder plates and gauntlets, but the greaves have a pair of glowing golden wings on the outer sides of the greaves.

<br>Cryosanthia is a tall, lithe lizardgirl with flamboyant mannerisms and a flashy style. Her scales are a bright, snow white, complimented by her frills and keratin-scale 'hair' which are the pale blue found in glacial ice. This gleaming tapestry is marred by dark tattoos gouged in her hide, green-black in colouration, which at times have a dark glow. Her snout is long and tapers elegantly. Her legs and tail are likewise graceful, despite being a significant portion of her size and mass. She seems light on her talons and energetic, head glancing quick from side to side. Her eyes are bright and like her frills, the palest of blues with a dramatic slit pupil. 
<br>Cryosanthia's clothes are a simple kit of kilted leather armour in white. It is close fitting enough to seem a part of her, but it lacks the lustre of her scales having instead a dull finish. She has sandals that leave her talons free, as well as a hat that is hanging to the back as often as it is on her head. A long blue feather is tucked into the woven band. Finally, she wears a cloak, likewise fashioned from white leather but with a satin interior that matches her eyes. It gleams when the light catches it right. Belted to her hip she has a rapier, a couple of pouches, and a tiny bag on a thong around her long neck.

<br>Aodhan is a seemingly youthful Sildanyari. Standing around five feet tall, he exudes an unusual amount of flexibility. In his small frame, striations in his muscular structure can be seen clearly in the exposed flesh of his shoulders and neck. His face is ovular, with a small pointed nose and severe thin lips which curve slightly downward. A masculine squared chin and jawline makes his overall facial features more severe. His eyes are a light color of blue, nearing white, which is in contrast with an almost astral color of red his hair shares hues with fire, making it seem somewhat otherworldly. Hidden mostly by his thick mostly unruly hair are his pointed ears. 
<br>On his upper body, a dark cherry marbled leather cuirass secures with almost black ironwood buckles over a very well made a sturdy short light green tunic. Around his waist is a thick brown belt which holds a matching large solid leather pouch rests to his right side. Over his shoulders is a thick brown cloak made with a very fine weave, a thin intricate silver clasp keeps it secure and closed around his neck and shoulder. 
<br>His trousers are well fitting if not a tad loose in the legs, the same fine weave in his cloak and tunic is seen in the trousers. One leg is light green, and the other is a light tan. On his feet are a pair of dark red and black striped calf high boots. The leather make of the boot is unidentifiable though it could be mistaken as snake skin.

<br>The frame of this relatively young man standing at six feet of height with darker, like naturally-tanned skin is set by broad, strong shoulders and the equally-strong muscularity that can be made out against the fabric of his simple, off-white shirt and dark-brown pants -- the former being relatively tight around his torso while the sleeves that extend just halfway along his thick biceps are much looser, amd the latter are much looser to allow for as much freedom as movement, while being just tight enough that the fabric doesn't get tangled anywhere.
<br>His face is surprisingly youthful, though largely by way of how expressive it is - particularly with the wide, all-too-bright smiles that he commonly flashes out, almost as warm and glowing as the sun itself - but still carries plenty blunt edges and angles along his jaw, chin and cheekbones to maintain a strong note of masculinity. While his face itself is clean-shaven, his black hair has been allowed to grow slightly longer -- not enough to reach his shoulders, but enough to occasionally cover up his ears and leaving him it with a bit of a wild look, all thick and mussed up and usually moving along completely of it's own volition. None of that seems to bother him much, though, even if one had to judge from the bright glint in his green eyes alone, full of spirit and joy of life and carrying just as much warmth as his smiles-- and the rest of him for that matter, his warmer-toned skin seeming to almost shine at times in certain angles against the light.
<br>The seeming illusion of warm glowth is almost further complemented by the two - yes, two, one of golden fabric and the other of pure white - scarves he wears draped along his neck, with one end on each tied there just tight enough to keep them from flying away, but the other ends and a good portion of their length left loose along his shoulders and back, often flowing behind him with the wind or his own quick, graceful motions.
<br>While his muscle-toned arms have been left mostly bare by the short sleeves, his palms, knuckles, wrists and a portion of his forearms have lengths of cloth wrapped along them, like bandages.
