Ga'Elian is in one of the enclosed fighting pens at the festival grounds with Erithamiel. They are sparring with each other, the elf using a bastard sword, the griffon using beak and claw. Despite the deadly weapons, both combattants are pulling their attacks, merely feigning battle.

Alik is finishing packing up his booth from last night's craft fair when the battle catches his eye. He wanders over curiously, recognizing the griffon he flew on the other day and the ranger who rode it, and leans against the pen enclosure.

The griffon is a little terrifying in his ferocity, attacking with a bite and two talon-swipes, but is not quite able to land an attack on the ranger. On the other hand, Ga'Elian succeeds in tapping the beast, rather vigorously, with the flat of his sword... twice. Both are too focused at the moment to notice their Gnomish spectator.

Alik, for his own part, is thinking about shooting them both. Not actually, but getting into the spirit of this sparring thing they seem to be doing. A combination of his toxic cloud and electrical discharge and a little luck could manage it, though from the looks of it either one of them could make short work of him if they closed the distance.

This time, Erithamiel is off. He doesn't even come close to landing a blow. Ga'Elian doesn't attack, but instead notices Alik and says, "Down, boy" in Sildanyari to Erithamiel, who obediently stands down. Ga'Elian salutes the Gnome with his sword, and says with a friendly smile, "Itching for a fight, are ya?"

Alik shakes his head. "Am not. But considering options, am," he adds with a quirky smile.

Ga'Elian nods. "We like to 'play' together in a variety of ways, and fighting helps to keep the wild in the spirit."

"Sensible," Alik replies. "Also, keeps fighting skills sharp. Target shooting, I do, for much the same reason."

Ga'Elian says, "Well, there is a target range right over... there." He points. "If you'd like, I'm happy to switch to shooting practice. Erithamiel could go hunt for wild deer for a while."

Alik shakes his head. "No, no need. Do not wish to interrupt your sparring. Was merely curious. Sword to beak like that, I do not fight, if I can help it!" He laughs. "Is interesting to see how it is done."

Ga'Elian bows with the dramatic flourish of a swashbuckler, then says, "Alright then." <tradespeak> Taking a few steps away from the guardrail he says, "Erithamiel, attack!" <sildanyari>

The two resume their sparring, but neither was in top form.

Alik watches the pair spar somewhat pathetically and nods sympathetically. Anyone can have a bad day, after all. <Try again!> he calls out enthusiastically in sildanyari. <Perfection with practice comes!>

This time, the griffon tries a different tactic. He attacks not the ranger, but the ranger's sword... to no avail. The elf strikes back, barely hitting Erithamiel again, but with only the first of his two swings.

Alik nods. "Better!" He continues to observe and call out comments while the two spar, and at their next break muses. "Was recently crafting for another ranger and her companion... to permit casting spells on companion from distance, yes? Healing, improving speed, quickness, that sort of thing. Apparatus already set up, to craft more, if you wish to purchase."

Ga'Elian returns to the guardrail. "What sort of object was it?"

Alik shakes his head. "Not object, precisely. [[Slotless#Beast-bond_brand|Alchemical paste]], is. You apply to hand, yes? And place handprint on griffon. Lasts long time, and spells you cast on yourself, or by touching others, you can cast on griffon even while he runs or flies."

Ga'Elian rubs his chin. "I'll think about it, but it doesn't seem of much use to me the way Im accustomed to doing things. It might, perhaps, be worthwhile if I altered my typical methods a bit. At any rate, it sounds quite intriguing."

Alik nods. "Is best, to find the tools that work well with how already work."
