The TarRaCe, Bathhouse
After a busy day in the TarRaCe, even the staff need their rest and respite. A rust red and white feathered egalrin, clad in simple cyan bathing shorts, is strewn out about one of the lounging chairs, large wings unfurled and taking up the spots beside her.
A long sigh escapes her as reaches over to the side, pulling out a book, cracking it open, and flipping to the middle of it. The spine easily reading 'Mastering Spheres: It's All About the Circles'.
Out from one of the changing rooms came a small makari in a plain bathing suit with a towel slung over one shoulder, on their way to one of the pools. Their path was cut short however when they pass by the egalrin, where they stop and peer for a moment.
"That sounds more than a little heavy, don't you come here to relax, Slix?" Eztli asks curiously. "Or, it could just be a book about drawing, hard to tell."
Slixvah turns a page, raising a brow as whatever content piques her interest. But she glances up. Blinks. Then her eyes sparkle bright with a grin. "Cutie!" she coos. "Lookin' good, hon! Scales lookin' right good today!"
She looks down, then giggles, turning the book around. It's not a magic book, Eztli was quite on the mark. It's a book on how to draw spherical objects. "Bingo! Drawing! I can't get these dang circles right! Lighting, ugh!"
"Oh, thank you Slix, I appreciate it. Haven't even gone for a swim yet, but still looking okay!" The small makari laughs as she scans over the book. "Ah, spheres! I thought you were talking spheres of magic or planes or something like that."
"Drawing is a new hobby for you, not like I expect you to have too many issues with it." Eztli grins. "What brought this about?"
"I already checked tha' book out last week!" Slix winks, putting a bookmark into the pages before shutting the book and setting it aside. "Girl, you know you better than jus' 'okay'."
Her eyes crinkle into a smile. "Map makin' has always been an idle sorta thing fo' me. Ya know, get up real high, can see everythin'. But I don' like how borin' some maps look, so I'm learnin' how ta spruce 'em up a bit!"
The small makari sighs and places one hand on their snout and shakes her head. "Well, if you say so, sometimes it feels like you know more makari than I do." they answer before stopping and smiling. "Ah, maps! Well, that sounds like fun. I guess that's why you want to be able to draw so precisely then? Anything particular you're trying to document Slix?"
"I do know a decent number of them, and theys cute all in they on way, just like you! Wit' such strong arms, too! Goodness," Slix continues to tease. There's a little shrug. "I 'unno. Just whatever is of interest. Helps wit' tellin' people where things is. But 'nuff 'bout me, what'chu been up to, girlie? Didn't get much time ta chat wit' ya one on one."
"Would be likely they're all strong, given everything." Eztli chuckles as she flops into one of the seats near Slixvah not occupied by her wings. "Thanks Slix, been a while, but you're still as supportive as ever."
"Well, it might be difficult, but people are looking for maps of the felwood at the moment, but I'm not sure how they'll help, place seems to change by the hour."
"Oh, me? Not too much exciting I can assure you really, outside of the usual work. Been taking a look at some towers in the felwood, that's why I brought it up. Outside of that? Just, not really been up to much, been fairly quiet." The small makari answers, finishing with a small sigh.
Said wing shifts a bit out of the way, but soon comes back like a warm, heavy blanket. "Guess tha' means you strong too!" Slix giggles. "But of course. I want m'friends ta feel good 'bout themselves."
She bobs her head once. "Yeah. Been thinkin' 'bout that bein' helpful there. Gotta practice mo' tho'. A bad map there means dead people."
She listens, turning in her chair to face the small mixed scaled makari. "I did a lil' work wit' tha' stuff befo. Wit' magic bein' wonky." Her eyes linger, picking up on something unsaid. "... what's on your mind, hon?" she intones, softer.
"Well, you know what? Thanks, Slix, I appreciate it, really." The small makari chuckles quietly. "Been a while since I've gotten a few compliments, and it does feel weird, but I'll get used to them again."
"Yeah, just popped into my mind, maybe best not to go charting uncharted territories at the moment." Eztli nods once. "Besides, you'd probably need a magic map for that place, what with how it keeps changing. We weren't able to really plot a course, and the towers just kind of showed up when they felt like it or were meant to be there."
"Hmm? what's on my mind?" Eztli asks, raising one ridged brow. "I guess I'm just thinking of my time spent here, getting used to all, well, this." She answers, gesturing to herself. "To the point where it's a bit strange for everything to be so uneventful."
Slix's feathered brows shoot up. "A /magic/ map! Oh goodness, why didn' I think of tha'! Tha's a great idea!" she giggles. "Tha' opens up so many ides fo' th' future. Gonna need a magic map ta keep track of magic towers."
She regards Eztli for a moment overlong before the egalrin gets out of her chair, slides over, and sits down right next to Eztli, unabashed. "Not everythin' has ta be explodin' and goin' crazy. Th' calm is always somethin' grand in of itself. It may be a bit borin', yes." She smiles at Eztli, reaching over to ruffle the top of the makari's head. "Besides. Ya doin' good gettin' used ta this. Ya look good. And not just in 'cute and adorable' - that's a given - but in confidence. I can see it."
"Oh, I wasn't saying you needed to do that, but well, I guess it would be a good idea if that was possible. I don't actually know if it would be." Eztli responds after a pause and another small chuckle, before the egalrin is in the chair next to her and ruffling her head. The small makari pouts, but it isn't particularly genuine, and she sighs happily. "It is a lot, but I guess, maybe a bit more confident?" She answers, not entirely certain. "Least I know I can do a lot more now and there are people like you that like me. Don't have the confidence someone like Un'eth does, though."
"Anything's possible with /magic/~" Slix singsongs, snickering. But she leaves it there as she slides her arm off and around Eztli's shoulders. "Nah, not a bit, a lot. You were really carryin' ya'self good the other night when I was on shift behind th' bar. Ya a real good sort, don't matta if ya scale or skin. People like ya. I do!"
But at the mention of the leader shaman, she just barks a laughter. "Bah! I've only met the woman once, and she's got enough experience under her belt she can't be nothin' /but/. Shoot. I wish I was a fraction of her. But- you'll get there. Eventually. Yous and Is live long lives. It ain't a race, 'tis a marathon."
"That? I mean, you were there and I knew all those people, at least sort of. Wasn't anyone completely new and I had a good friend there to make it more relaxed." The small makari sighs, leaning back against the arm. "It matters to some people, but I don't need to worry about that."
Eztli blinks, and chuckles weakly. "Well, yeah, she's really something. Felt like I could learn a lot with everything she's been through. But I mean like, confidence in herself. And here I am still wondering if I should be wearing a top to the bathhouse or not."
Slixvah pats Eztli on the shoulder. "True, true," she hums, rocking light from side to side as Eztli rests. "It matters ta some people, but not fo' me," she teases.
"Oh for sure. I could pick her brains for hours." She gives a glance to Eztli, shrugs with a playful look in her eyes. "Makari don't. Egarlin don't. I don't. If you want to, you want to. If you don't, you don't. But I'm sure all those pretty scales make a nice mural under all tha'!" she laughs, giving the makari a squeeze before pulling away and standing up. Talons clack over towards the edge of the pool. "Me thinks its time fo' a proper soak, yeah?"
