From a small cart to a personal boat, personal vehicles are yours to own on Tenebrae. Unlike a larger shop, these have no monthly upkeep. They're also more limited: they tend to be dedicated, and built, towards a singular purpose though that purpose is one you dictate. These are not vehicles typically built for hauling--they may unfold instead, becoming a traveling merchant's stall, or a fortuneteller's wagon.

Purchase of a vehicle grants you an object you may carry with you and drop any reaspnable place ongrid. These vehicles are not intended to be enterable spaces. That is, boats tend to be open, and carts are most often adjustable so that they double as an unfolding merchant's stall.

A vehicle may reasonably travel with you wherever you go (and it is able to go). Carts, as part of the environment, are naturally exposed to the same risks as everything else. That is, if yours is a merchant cart and the price of supplies goes up, this challenges you, too. If it goes on a DM'd scene, it's in danger just as you are, and so forth.

A vehicle is the type of spend that's expected to take a little time and roleplay. That is, it's not something that turns into a finished product overnight.

Purchase a Framework for Your Vehicle You begin work on the framework of your new vehicle. You'll want to build it around a purpose, of course. For now, you're either doing the work yourself or hiring it done. See the description, below, for what sorts of frameworks you may purchase. 10 RPP, Level 3+
Add the Final Necessities What purpose is it for? Peruse the Build a Room option over on Build a Public Space. You may select one room and upgrade it using the rules, there. There is one caveat: if you already own a room marked with a *, you may not purchase a second. You're much too busy. 10 RPP
New Coat of Paint When you first build it, the paint's cracked, there are stains on the floor...there's that odd, floating smell that appears once every full moon. It's time to improve that. You might also decide to get a matched set of horses. Maybe. See description. 10 RPP per Tier
Repurpose a Vehicle Change a vehicle's type and function. Takes 5 days, during which the vehicle confers no benefits. 5 RPP
Add Mechanical Improvements Some vehicles, depending on what they were built for, are upgradable. Peruse the Build a Room option over on Build a Public Space. If your vehicle is based on a room type that's upgradable, then you can upgrade it. 5 RPP
Convert a Cart into a Shop This takes 5 days, during which no benefit is gained from either. At the end, you possess a Lease, and a single shop room ongrid. If you'd purchased Coats of Paint, these also apply. At the end of the 5 days, your shop opens and you begin paying maintenance, and may add additional rooms and benefits, as well as a manager. If you'd purchased an advanced working animal, this is refunded to you at the sale price. Area Influence, Level 5+, 10 RPP
Purchase an Existing Cart Sometimes PCs leave, or want to try something different. This doesn't mean that their vehicles do, or can't be refitted. In fact, this is almost always cheaper than purchasing new. 1/2 of cart's RPP value

Descriptions

Purchase a Framework for Your Vehicle

You begin work on the framework of your new vehicle. You'll want to build it around a purpose, of course. For now, you're either doing the work yourself or hiring it done. As part of this spend, you may purchase one of the following:

  • Framework for a small boat
  • Framework for a small cart; this comes with one or two servicable mules

Add the Final Necessities

This is merely choosing a purpose and outfitting it. Examples of a small cart would be, Sandy's Traveling Soup Kitchen for Orphans. Or, Sandy's Personal Leafboat. Effectively, pick a room from Build a Public Space.

New Coat of Paint

New Coat of Paint
Cost Benefit Tier
Tier One Everyone starts here, and so do you. The paint is cracked, or it's just the quickest you could find. In the meantime, it'll do...but did it have to peel? There are stains and this crack along one of the wheels... 0 RPP
Tier Two You've gotten rid of the traveling smell, and the paint is a decent color. Perhaps just a little...bland. There's some dirt, and one of the shelves is askew, but everyone has these sorts of things, right? If your boat has a sun canopy, there's a small tear or two, but overall, it looks as good as anyone else's, and it holds up to the rain. If you have one, you've upgraded the mule. He looks a little better, doesn't he? You're just so /busy/... 10 RPP
Tier Three An overall serviceable look. You stand out a bit from similar vehicles in a good way. There's some vibrancy to your colors, and you may have some art objects lying around. Your windows are kept clean and your mules are a matched set. You might instead have a pair of horses, or even well-bred goats. If your boat has a sun canopy, it's a pleasant make, and free from holes. 10 RPP
Tier Four You've hired a local artist and they've added a few touches. Your windows have curtains or shutters. It looks nice. A nobleman could sit here for a while, and feel at ease. For half the normal price, you may also purchase an exotic creature to haul your cart (the creature must be normally purchasable). The creature arrives, trained to work and haul. If you've a boat, your boat has a nice canopy, with some dye and embroidery work. You've something to be proud of. 10 RPP
