Demons What Part 15
...so, it's really slowl.
Way slower than any of you would like, and you get burned a bunch. About halfway through the process, due to the slowness, some of the more injured crewmen have a bit of panic over it, but they get thorugh. Still, it slows you down even FURTHER.
Seeing a trend here/ It's /slow/. And PAINFUL. By the time it's done, and everyone's migrated to the next room, all of you have burns that are just achingly painful and will take up a lot of healing resources to cure, not to mention the poor crewmen.
One-eye in particular is miserable. Shje's glaring at you all rather angrily right now. It's all your fault. YOU AND YOU MAGIC DEMON STICK.
Oh, and of course, that's when the gnomish statues come to life, drawing their ornate blades.
...ain't life grand?

Lucy calls out something in Gnomish as she moves up next to Serraphine. She calls something else, her tone pleading. It seems to have no effect, and Lucy looks almost mournful. "It's no use everyone! They won't listen to reason...we'll have to out them down!" She lunges, but either her heart isn't in it or she's more shaken than she's letting on, and her rapier bounces harmlessly off a stone arm.

Celeste has no sooner emerged from scalding hot water than she and her companions are assaulted by gnomish statues. Really? "Kor's Asshole," she snarls, barely having time to ready herself with shield and sword; other than that, a loincloth will have to do it seems. "RAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!" At least the situation hasn't dampened the half-orc's fighting spirit, as she howls a challenge and bashed the statue before her soundly with her shield; hard enough to stagger it backwards, and bring her sword into it hard enough to crach the thing all up and down the side. "THIS ONE'S MINE!" she roars, "SMASH YOU!!!"

"AAAAAARRRGGGH" Baz had started to yell the minute his metal covered body had hit the scalding hot water, especially his softer bits. "BRRGGGHGSRRBBGHG" He continued to yell as they swam under the waves, or well he lumbered and bounced in his armored near-coffin like attire. Until he came up sloshing from the depths once more. "AAAAAAAAARRRGH!" Only to find the part beset by stone gnomish forces. His bloodshot steam cleaned eyes staring out over extremely pink and sensative skin. "WAAAAAAAAGH!" The scream changes, his lung space seemingly limitless as he swings out with his axe, attempting to rend the thing from behind. Only to find himself over correcting and smashing his forearm into the stone gnome's head. "OOOOWWWWWW!" Just before he barely manages to get his shield up in time to block it's strike.

His big gloved hand letting the axe fall to the floor as he reaches out and lifts her up by the back of her armor. "KOR! THIS WARRIOR IS NOT YET DONE! MORE BLOOD DEEDS MUST BE SUNG! KOR HEAL THIS HIDE SO IT MAY FIGHT AGAIN!" He yells out as he channels the much more powerful spell into her armor. Unfortunately his magic sputters weakly, just enough to rouse but unfortunately no where near as effective as it should be.

The statue Celeste is fighting receives a kick from Malorn; it's enough to nudge the rocky foe just so. Celeste's shield hammers it hard, the spikes biting deep and sending stone chips flying. "SHATTER YOU TO HELL!" she howls; now that it makes sense, really, but who's going to argue? Her sword comes down just as hard into the militant effigy's shoulder, sending another crack spidering through it. The half-orc gladiatrix is about to open her mouth to tell Malorn to go help the others, when one of the other statues decides to smash her one as well, so she keeps her mouth shut on that issue. Apparently Celeste *can* be rational when she's angry.

He follows it up with a hard kick that cracks a part of the statue. He heads towards the one that Lucy is fighting and he tries to move out of the way, but he gets hit. He tries to follow it up with another panther claw, but his fist glances off the hard stone. Malorn settles into a flanking position with Lucy as he goes to swing at the statue again, but once again his fist just glances off the statue's tough exterior.

Celeste is definitely not finished with the statue in front of her; it's not finished with her either, but some things just have to be left unaccomplished, in the end. Celeste roars, spewing spittle at the statue before smashing her sword hard into its chest; her shieldbash slams it up against the wall, and then she falls upon it, clamping her jaws around its throat and... actually... ripping loose a chunk of stone. Enough that with all the cracks, its head falls off, and that would appear to be that. The unarmored half-orc, bruised and bloodied, turns to look for the next target.

Still reeling from the stone gnome's strike to his head while he was channeling Kor's energy. Baz lurches on his feet and scoops up his axe for an attack on the remaining stone threat. He spins on his armored feet and sweeps the axe up in a brutal rending uppercut, or at least it would have been if he connected. "DIE DIE DIE DIE DIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!" Celeste's really inspired speach flow from her lips as she bashes her sword straight into the golem in front of her, just about shattering the construct; and then the shield follows up, and the half-orc basically just shatters the stone foe into rough pebbles that skitter across the cave floor. "TOLD YOU SO!!" she roars, and casts her eye about the cavern for something else to fight. Finding nothing, she sighs heavily, and slumps her shoulders, panting heavily. "Alright... we need to get moving."
Once the last gnome-statue goes down Baz shakes his head again and pulls his helmet off. It takes him a few moments to pound out the dent with his fist to the point he can get the helmet comfortably back on. "Oy, pissant gnomes 'ave ta stop wit all dez damn tricks." Working his jaw with his empty right hand, the big Ork goes off to find his axe from when it flew from his grip earlier.
...well, the statutes are dead. Now you're jsut in this section of the baths. There is, at least, a solid steel door that leads out of here.
The cowering sailors, who were staying out of the way of the fight, are eager to get a move on.
There's a lot of tired groans.
Lucy lowers her rapier, then looks around carefully. "Maybe - or maybe we should take a break." She looks around at the others. "I don't think we've rested since the gnome village. This might be our best bet. If we keep double watches..." Even before she finishes she's fishing in her pack for her chain shirt. She's never taking it off again, she thinks tk herself.
Malorn rolls out his shoulder and he nods, "I'll take a watch I'm unhurt and I don't need much rest anyway." He offers as he brushes the stone dust off his simple monk clothes.
Serraphine looks down at the now unmoving statue, nods her head, looks to Celeste, and then starts off at a walk toward her armor. She slides the sword back into its scabbard before settling down to strap on her plate armor. "Well now that it's dead, I think you're right that we might consider taking a break Lucy. Either that, or we send someone to scout ahead just in case our goal is in sight - and while they scout the rest of us prepare for the night. Best of both worlds."
Celeste stretches her arms up over her head and then back behind her, little the muscles go taught for a few moments. "Resting here might be a good idea," she concedes. "I will take first watch then, I'm in good shape thanks to Baz and Felicia." She tilts her head until the vertebrae crack audibly, before putting down her sword and shield so she can retrieve her chainmail.
"The sailors won't complain about arest," says One-Eye, "but let's nmot forget that there's kobolds about. Chances are, they have a good idea where we are. Watch or no, that's takin' a chance." She rubs her face.

Lucy nods slowly. "But they must not come down here, or else they would have had to face the statues." She looks at the remains of one. "In fact...maybe we can set them up like they were before they started moving. And stage things so that if one of those little bastards swims in and looks, it looks like the statues are still here standing guard."
Serraphine blinks, then looks about and her eyes land on Lucy as she starts going on about the plan, She scratches lightly at her chin, "Would you mind scouting on the other side of the door? See what exactly is ahead before we decide to settle down? If there's a good position on the other side of it - then that door will give us a lot of security through out the night."
Lucy tries to stack the broken bits of one of the gnome murder statues but it keeps falling apart before she can get it halfway up. The chunks missing in various shapes that match up with the party's weapons, fists, and teeth - she shoots an affectionate look at Celeste - certainly don't help. Finally she sighs and changes tacts, going over to peer at the door. "It's worth a look," she agrees.

The door does not appear to be trapped. It is, however, /locked/.
This is a problem.

Lucy stares at the lock uncomprehendingly for a moment or two. Then finally she gets to work. She first uses a thin stilleto-like dagger, setting it carefully against the top of the lock's mechanism and then using another knife to poke in and twist. At one point she sets her pick down and looks like she's going to bang the tool against the lock but then thjnjs better of it. Finally there's a promising series of clicks and snaps, and Lucy lets out a sigh if relief. "I think that should do it," she says before trying to open the door.

Lucy returns from her mission. Words spill out of her in a rush, no doubt having built up while she was moving stealthily. "It's musty and cobwebby and dusty and old. Looks mostly undisturbed...there were a few kobold prints that look relatively fresh, so they've been here, but don't come this way often..."
Serraphine gives a scratch of her chin as she ponders how this is turning out, she worked in the interim to try and keep people settled and keeping this organized and ready to move. She looks toward the water, then toward the door. "Well, we know that they know where we went down." She nods toward the pool they emerged from, "But they might not no where it comes up. So if we seal up on the other side of the door-" a nod toward it, "-and post guards watching where the tracks were leading from. I think that would give us the most protection to try and get some rest."
