  • Title: Historical Unclarity
  • Emitter: Aryia
  • Characters: Aryia, Verna, Cesran
  • Place: Sage Orum's Plaza
  • Time: November 24th, 2021
  • Summary: On a clear day in the Plaza, a few folks touch base with one another. Aryia is looking into sects that revolve around Maugrim and Taara's marriage, and the other two, Cesran and Verna, express frustrations at making little headway on their respective projects, and speak vaguely on what progress they have made thus far. Assistance for Aryia's own work is offered, and she turns down naming anything for the sake of paranoia. Cesran flies off, and Verna reminds Aryia of the support she offered before. The mute takes her up on that, and they head off to do some memory delving.

Sage Orum's Plaza, Noon.

It's a fair weather day, thankfully. Just an errant wind here and there, but it couldn't help with the chill that was pervasive, due to the season. Students and the like had their heavy robes on to ward it off, as well as the errant folk that came through.

One such errant soul was a mul'neissa woman in a long grey skirt and a loose, long sleeved green shirt, a thick blue shawl wrapped around her shoulders, coupled with a wide brimmed sunhat that had two holes cut out for her scarred ears that poked through. She's pensive, torch-bright eyes thinned to a line as she's reading over a journal in one hand, and an open book in the other while she takes some respite at a bench.

Open books and reading are a rather common sight in or around this plaza, between the library, Enclave, and Society. Verna emerges from the grounds of the last, and may be one of the few made more conspicuous by her current lack of tome, much less perusal of one. Has she exhausted all reference material? Become invested in a new past-time? Now marks the End of Days?

Cesran comes down from the City Library and he does have some books in his arms. Not library books, cause they don't let you leave with them, but books of his own notes. In his other hand is his staff and he when he spots Verna he heads over towards her. "Good Day Verna how are you doing?" He asks as he sounds happy and a bit excited but tired.

It must be the End of Days, as Verna passes the dressed up woman, there's a hissed annoyance of "T-r- -nd M-gr-m?", followed by a long, long huff. One ear twitches within the hat from the voice calling out, and the mul'neissa lifts her head to spot the two mages.

Verna's hood pans at the more audible call, noting Cesran with a dip of said hood. "It is a day. How well it transpires remains to be determined... yet I am well enough. Yourself?"

The hiss to her immediate flank does not go unnoticed, either. As well, it is entirely likely that the fullblood in green was spied more easily due to Verna's lack of reading material. To Aryia, her hood subsequently cants as she parses probbaly context despite the lack of vowels. "You are studying of the gods?" Those predominant in certain locales or cultures, in fact, though she does not state as much.

"I'm good, just putting the pieces together of the research that I've been doing, been traveling to quiet a number of places for this research, even made a couple of trips to some libraries that are in well not the nicest of places. Thankfully I was able to be in and out without anyone noticing me." Cesran says before he spots Aryia and waves to her in greeting. He lets his staff free stand and he puts his books into his pack. Once done he starts to use handspeech as well as speak, "Hello Aryia, is something bothering you?" He asks

Aryia gives a sigh and shakes her head, the motion exaggerated from the large hat she was wearing. She greets with Cesran and the staff with a wave, looping in Verna as well. She shuts one book and stacks it under the other. "Sort of," she waggles a gloved hand, answering both of them. "Just trying to figure out something is all. Taara and Maugrim's marriage have sects. Trying to see if they pop up anywhere..."

Another sigh, then a bit more hopeful of an expression. "Glad you were able to get out of those places without much issues." <Handspeech>

Verna takes a moment to translate Aryia's statement. Fortunately, homophones do not exist in handspeech (though perhaps there are near-homo...graphs?). "That pairing is rather commonly emulated among their followers, though I do not expect that every coupling is considered a member of a specific sect."

While considering this, she looks to Cesran with some interest. "Made you any discoveries? My own has proven aggravatingly ponderous as of late."

Cesran chuckles at Aryia's perhaps intentional perhaps unintentional word play, "Yes that pair seems to have lots of sects while The Shining Knight and The Lady of the Stars seem to have only one sect, but that one sect is extremely good." There is a long and aggravated sigh from his staff before Cesran changes topics, "Yes, well I've gathered more information, but I still got to put it all together. I should have some more information about at least one of the current problems very soon and when I do finish I'll be sharing it with all that I can in the location of the day where things like that get talked about."

Aryia tilts her head to the side at the chuckle, the joke going right over the mute's head. Though, she does bob it, the sunhat bouncing some as she does so. "Yes. But there are sects that embody that marriage. My..."

She trails off, considering if she should share anything more. But instead settles on, "... past. My past has something to deal with that." She looks pointedly at Verna before addressing the other topic. Which, such topic was so vague it made the mul'neissa blink a few times, rub her temple, then shrug. It was vague on purpose, her gut told her. <Handspeech>

"From a recent conversation with Seldan," Verna notes to Cesran, "I would hope that you are in search of a location. That appears to be the crux of matters, now, as I understand. I may have deciphered enough to find context to other portions, and continue to delve into the details." Yes, she is also vague, and likely intentionally so.

That stated, she returns her focus to Aryia and her revelation. Not that it was entirely unexpected. "Ah. I would say that our pasts are further linked, as my own is quite related to that pairing, though my parents did not share details of their preferences concerning sects."

Cesran does get serious as Aryia brings up her past, "Well if you need any help understanding these sects I'd be happy to try to lend my expertise. Although religion has never been my main study I have researched quite a bit of it." He hmms, "I have been trying to keep my eye out for anything that mentions a location, but my primary research has been on understanding our foe and if there are any ways to defeat him that were recorded in the past. I don't believe this is the first time they've tried to cause havoc on the material plane."

Aryia rubs her arm at the offer, blatantly ignoring the other topic at this point. Both because she didn't want to screw anything up for them, as well as knowing how dangerous the topic was. A breath in. Out.

"Maybe, Verna. I'm just not sure if something like that would actually intersect with mine, considering what happened to me was over eight decades ago," she shrugs. Then looks to Cesran. "It's less about understanding the sects, and more trying to figure out what sects were associated with what sorts of families and what not. So I'm thumbing through high-society bullshit." <Handspeech>

Verna nods to Aryia. "I did not mean to imply a direct correlation, only a familiarity... though my mother would certainly have been active at that time, and decades before." She diverts from that to give Cesran acknowledgement. "Noted. I will expand my own search somewhat, to assist."

Back to Aryia to assure, "My offer still remains, if, when, and however you wish to make further use of it."

"Ah so it's knowledge of the nobility that you are looking for instead. I can also help with that. Are there specific families that you are looking for? If it's over 80 years ago sounds like a bit of history as well." Cesran offers his aid, "After this I believe I'm going to that Moon that Seldan has been gifted to see what else I can find out about it."

Aryia looks between Verna and Cesran. Her sighing and pinching the bridge of her nose. "Going to be really honest. If you're talking like this, Cesran, I don't want to give any names out. You talk like someone's watching over your shoulder. And I think the name is stricken from many books as of late. Let's just say my history might be a bit more elevated than I thought. I'm sorry," she sighs with a sad frown.

She eyes Verna, her looking distant for a moment before sighing with a slight nod. "... I may. Some of those memories are... slowly coming back. I catch myself thinking some ways that I usually don't think before. Old, old ways of thinking. I may need to unearth something else to know what's going on." <Handspeech>

"Thank you for your honestly, I understand that I'm acting a bit paranoid, I just don't want to see anyone hurt because of what I say. Sadly we are being watched, well I believe that I'm not, but I know that not everyone has the same magical protections I do. I am able to set up a spot every day to speak freely, perhaps we can meet there, but after the incident at the temple where you were badly hurt I didn't think you wanted any part in this. Anyway I should be going so I can start to compile all the research that I've done. I hope for the best for both of you." Cesran says before he takes out his carpet of flying to get on it and take off.

Verna is quiet a moment and observes Cesran depart before returning her focus to Aryia. "Whether you wish research of histories, sharing of common practices, or viewing of your own memories, I am at your disposal." She pre-empts possible rebuttal with a lifted hand, palm out and vertical. "Your needs to not interrupt others. Quite frankly, I welcome tasks with more narrow scope and personal reward at this juncture."

Aryia gives an appreciative nod towards Cesran at the offer, and waves as he takes off. She watches him go for a bit, her lips canted to the side. Incident at the temple were she was badly hurt..? There was only one kind of fighting that happened there a long while back. Was that he was referring to?

Must have been. She barely remembered that pain. That fear. Nothing compared to the letter that-

Stop. Focus. In. Out.

It takes a moment for Aryia's brain to catch up on what Verna was speaking of. The rebuttal of her hands is quelled. And she sighs softly, a light smile pulling at her lips. "... okay. Do you want to go do that now?" she inquires, gathering her reading material and standing. <Handspeech>

"If you are available and inclined," Verna nods with the caveat, "I would enjoy the shift in efforts. It would do us both well should we reclaim pleasant memories." Statement? Assurance? Hope? Perhaps all of the above. They cannot all be unpleasant, afterall. Statistically, they are bound to stumble upon delightful recollections at some point.

One can hope the memories are pleasant, there had to be some good morsel buried in there. At least, hopefully her memories weren't the outlier in that probability.

Aryia adjusts her blue shawl on her shoulders and gives a nod. "Yes, I think I'm resolved enough for it. I appreciate your help, really. Let's go," she gestures off towards the City Library, where they had once attempted this before. <Handspeech>
