  • Title: Calamari Calamtiy
  • Emitter: Cryosanthia

  • Summary: The Colosseum is having an event, hastily advertized. "Save the Mermaid", "Win the Fin". A promoter has somehow acquired Braelnoir in new chimera-mermaid form, and transported her to the site. An aquatic combat arena is quickly being assembled and filled. Victor, a war-golem, and Lanier, a friend of Braelnoir sign up for the competition, as well as two women, an orange Arvec Nar and an oruch. Once the tank is filled, Braelnoir is tossed in and squids are summoned to attack, a lot of squids. She is heavily injured. The other adventurers get in the water, providing more targets and the battle spreads. Blood, Ink, confusion, more squids are added, then eels, and the Barker taunts the 'little mermaid' mercilessly. The adventurers are prevailing, at a cost, and then a shark is thrown in. Lanier casts a Hide from Animals as the Arvec shoves a gauntlet on Braelnoir, a Kordite rescue: the opportunity to fight back. Braelnoir's first attack misses, but as the shark circles and moves in on Victor she punches through its gills. The acid from the gauntlet dissolves the beast. The Barker flees, the 'mermaid' is rescued. The Arvec and Oruch are overprotective at first, then introduce themselves as Firestarter and Terry. The Witchcrow that has been observing the whole thing flies off, and Cryosanthia arrives. The sith-makar apologizes for being a bad friend and suggests the Arcanist's Guild Dungeons as a non-magic spot Braelnoir could hide in.

Crafted largely of stone, the Colosseum sits heavily in the midst of the district. Effectively a giant arena, seats form its sweeping sides like the forefront of a great stage. At its center is a stained, stone floor. Each end is overseen by the opposing statues of Kor and Angoron, their arms raised and each holding weapons in gestures of triumph. Staged at a crossroads, their stone gazes stand in eternal challenge over the battlefield floor. Angoron's statue appears to have something of a smirk, opposing Kor's dreadful scowl.

Construction here is on the massive scale. The Arena's stone form was carried piece by piece from the Redridge. Borne on the shoulders of ancient oruch and formed by the tireless hands of the khazad, it is second to none in ancient craftsmanship. Old tribal and clan symbols, nearly worn away, reveal themselves when blood and sweat pools in their minor crevices. Their unusual display brings to life, if only for moments, memories of warrior traditions past. It is for this reason the Arena serves as a diplomatic grounds for some cultures, as well as sport and competition.

Beneath the arena's stage are preparation rooms for competitors, and retiring areas for the wounded. Here, warriors are tended to by aids and medics, by coaches and priests. Tarianic laughter echoes from the chambers on the Angorite side. These unseen areas run alongside a cleverly, khazad-designed system to flood the arena's floor for certain performances. When flooded, the arena draws waters from the nearby Tornmawr. During these occasions anything is possible, as even the Nar-Sektoth have been known to visit from far off Am'shere, and display their powers beneath the gods' banners.

The encircling seats provide a grand view, while vendors often walk the aisle ways between, selling food or taking bets. Clear as blood is the single, red line drawn down the arena's center between the twin statues, daring an opponent to cross.

The pounding has stopped.

An area is being rapidly constructed. An aquatic combat arena. Temporary walls have been hammered up and augmented with spells such as Wall of Iron. Now, bags of salt are being dumped in, along with create water spells, to fill it with the proper environment. Something a mermaid would be comfortable fighting in.

No matter that the mermaid isn't really a mermaid, and she had no interest in being turned into an event. Her temporary holding tank was discovered, relocated, and now rests beside the aquatic arena, ready to tip her in as soon as it's prepared.

SAVE THE MERMAID, the signs proclaim. Adventurers are allowed to sign up to do just such a thing. Bookies are on hand, to discuss their skills and set odds. Rumour has it, the last person swimming will get her fin in marriage. There is a gold ring in there, just for the occasion.

Too bad no one actually asked the mermaid herself.

Amused...

She is not.

Her circumstances being what they are, the transmogrified warrior is forced to occupy herself with coordinating her surplus limbs into something approaching useful, in between coming up for air. A plane of glass is being held to one side of Brae's temporary, even fleeting, containment vessal as several would be artists have had their canvases doused already for their trouble, and any piqued requests that she 'hold still for posterity' are met with ever refined coordination as a flock of four birds let fly in their direction. She really, really wants to kill someone... but isn't sure who.

A very large crow flies in, and lands on an artist's canvas on the opposite side of the glass. It nearly knocks the thing over, and the look it gives the painter is enough to make him back off, leave it alone. It's head jerks from side to side, finally it fixes the 'mermaid' with a beady eye and squawks.

"Braelnoir!"

It hops, turning so it can look at her with the other eye, and tilts its head. Everything about this bird suggests it is mocking her.

Victor strides into the arena, soft metallic clatter and ryhmic thuds accompanying every step. He moves towards the sign-up area and then to the edge of the water, examining the alleged mermaid. "Are you certain that is a mermaid...?" he inquires of no one in particular. "While she does not look at home in this water," and thus in need of rescue, he reasons. "She also does not look at home with...well, with her own form."

Ohhhh, perfect....

Brae's attention is drawn to the helpful art critic and she grits her teeth, looking around for more birds as it's never just one, right? She can't get out of the tank on her own, she can't punch through the glass, and thus, she can't choke Ghisha's murderchicken... so she fumes, instead. Glaring. 'Couldn't even make it poop on the bloody canvas, lazy bitch' her eyes probably say. Or maybe it's 'Now I know exactly who I want to kill. But I can't.' Oh! She looks up toward Victor and she makes a couple of fumbling handsigns, muddled some by the web between her fingers, and the fact that her commands are still kind of splitting between both pairs of limbs, "Bird threat. Need kill." <handspeech>

"Ladies and Gentlemen!" A barker starts up, "We are priveledged to have here today a Princess of the Sea! Her underwater kingdom overthrown, pursued by enemies. Enemies, that will capture her here, if naught for brave adventurers! Take your seats in the stands, place your bets, sign up to be a hero! Our bookies are standing by to take your details and rank your chances! Who will win the fin of this gorgeous underwater masterpiece! Only time will tell."

The giant raven-crow bird poops on the artist's canvas then flies up to perch on top of the glass barrier between the illustrators and the subject. It hops twice in place, getting comfortable, then caws down at her.

"Can't Speak!" , "Braelnoir!", "Hawwww!"

The barker, on break from his spiel, answers Victor with a shrug, "Boss says it's a mermaid, put her in a fight and put on a show. I got all these people showing up to see a mermaid, she's a mermaid."

Amused...

He is not.

In need of platinum and gold to fund his adventuring...

He is.

Lanier, once finding there was money to be won in the Colliseum, is one of the adventurers to sign up for the fight. He does seem less amused as he realizes the person in the tank is a friend of his. He looks over to the barker for a moment, just in time to hear the reply. He then asks, "When is this starting?" He looks back over to Braelnoir, and not understanding the Handtalk, he replies back in gibberish, "stop sign airship disco special wakka wakka wakka." It probably means help is on the way?

Victor catches the hand motions but doesn't seem to recognize the signs. He glances at the barker at the explanation. "I see." Lanier draws his attention for a moment but Victor seems just as lost at the response. Finally he turns towards the water. The visor on his helmet lowers into place seemingly of it's own accord, making his features even more unreadable. "I am ready," he offers. His voice is just a bit hollow.

"Soon! Ladies and Gentlemen, soon! Our fighting mages are fast at work filling the arena. Once the water is 10' deep we will be ready. In the meantime, take advantage of the concessions and the independent vendors hawking their wares. We all do better when you support the small business person!" The barker continues. Several of the small business people seem to be litereally so, goblins and luchts.

The barker heads over to the assembled adventurers. "Okay? Signed up. Allright, to keep it fair whatever magic items you have on you are fine. Nothing is to be activated, used, or cast, before the mermaid goes in, to keep it fair for everyone. She'll drop in the centre, and you swim over to defend her. If you can't swim, pick up 16lbs of weight so you can sink and walk on the bottom. Here's a dye packet, if you start drowning break it, you'll be out of the competition and fished out. Don't go breaking each other's packets."

Dye packets are handed out by an assistant following behind the barker.

Braelnoir sneers up at the bird, flicking up a quartet of her own as she grinds her teeth. There's a.... wait a minute! She twists some in her tank and makes several flailing gestications, shaking her head and generally looking like she's really really excited for this new courtship experience. She's never going to run out of people to kill at this rate.

The dark, malevolent, really large crow cackles an avain laugh, then peers around. It's noticed something new! The ranger finds himself the receipient of a beady little bird stare.

"Lanier...?"

It caws, differently at him. Sounding less hostile, more curious.

Lanier listens to the barker with a glare in its direction, taking in the instructions with interest. When he hears his name outside the ones and twos of his screaming fans, he looks up and searches until he spots the raven, "Hello, my little friend. Looking for something new today?" He reaches down, looking through his belt until he finds a sunrod. He shows it to the raven, reaches up, cracks it until its glowing, then tosses it towards the ground a safe distance away from him.

GAME: Lanier rolls 1d20+6: (7)+6: 13

Victor turns towards Lanier. "Lanier? That is your name?" He glances at the bird briefly, then towards the water. "I plan to walk along the bottom of the surface and as I do not require air I can attempt to protect the, ah, 'mermaid' from enemies underwater. Can you do the same on the surface?"

The giant crow swoops over, lands, hops, picks up the sunrod with one talon, then returns to perch on top of the barrier beside Braelnoir. Clearly, it's intimidating her with its presence, or attempting to. Giving the 'mermaid' a stare, to ensure she's not suddenly going to jump out of the water, it returns it's avain gaze to the Ranger.

"Potion!", "Scroll!"

Braelnoir flails a little bit longer and sighs, shaking her head. Unbelievable. Now all she needs if a flying helmet to latch onto her face and she'll have the perfect cap on this day. Were it not for the birds and... her sudden pressganging, she might have found this particular situation kind of neat, but as it is, she's only too aware of how vulnerable she actually is and the bird is... is Lanier giving the damn thing -presents-? She misses her scythe.

Lanier looks towards Victor for a moment, nodding his head, "That's my name." He then points towards the large Raven, "This is... Well, I don't know the raven's name come to think of it. We met in a forest and weren't properly introduced. Even for bird." He then looks back towards the raven and then nods his head, "Fine, I'll give you a potion. What do you need it for?" He reaches down again, finding a potion there and reaching out to offer it to the raven. He doesn't drop it, however.

Sense Motive by Crow
GAME: Cryosanthia rolls 1d20+6: (20)+6: 26

The giant crow is instantly interested when Lanier brings out a potion. Seeing that he's holding it out the side, it looks at him, first with one eye, then the other. It stares into his soul, understanding him completely. It swoops down and takes the potion. Now, it has something in each talon. This makes it hard to perch. It flies off to one of the remote spires of the colloseum and stashes it's treasure. It returns with a gleam in its eye. It squawks loudly.

"Favours!"

"Ah, favours," the Ranger of Gilead replies. With a tilt of his head, he enquires up to the bird, "Trade favours?" He looks briefly over towards the barker, making sure they aren't about to start just yet, before he looks back up to the bird.

Braelnoir watches the ranger make nice-nice with her enemy's pet and is just at a loss. She grips the edge of the tank and watches the bird fly off, then makes sure she keeps an eye on the avian, ready to push down into the water if it becomes necessary. It got the canvas, but no bird is ever truly 'empty'.

Victor studies the interaction between Lanier and crow. Perhaps this is how Rangers first acquire their animal companions? Victor makes a mental note to ask about it later. He turns to the barker and says, "Are you allowed to tell us, who or what are these opponents we will be facing?"

The bird is back, the bird is not empty. Without even a regard for Braelnoir it depth bombs her, then flies in a wide circle around Lanier.

"Favours!" It squawks again, sounding happy. Certainly eager about something.

The Barker swings by again, "Okay, seems like a light day, you and two other guys have signed up. Try to make it interesting. It'll be squid. Lots of ink, blood, should look nice. Mebbe an Eel."

The other two combatants are a largely orange hued Arvec Nar, wearing a breastplate and a spiked gauntlet, and an oruch. "We're not guys," grumps the oruch. They aren't.

The water level is nearly to the correct mark, people are settling in, it looks like the event is about to start.

Braelnoir manages to get under the surface for the most part in time, though she is forced to occupy herself with actively fanning her new tank adornment away from her. o O (I'ma kill'er... I'm gonna spend all my gold rezzin' her so I can kill'er again...! And again...!)O o. Oblivious to the strapping lasses offering Lanier and Victor competition for her 'fin'.

Cryosanthia says, "The Arvec has the hots for you Lanier."
GAME: Braelnoir rolls sense motive: (3)+0: 3

The chimermaid is convinced she's seen the Arvec Nar somewhere before, like the Brazen Stride. She feels safe, loved, and secure.

Victor inclines his head in a polite nod to the other combatants. He's been in many impromptu adventuring parties and knows how these things tend to go. At first no one knows each other. By the end of the adventure they have flanked enemies together, healed each other, and sometimes even learned each others' names.

Lanier nods to the Arvec Nar and then nods to Victor, "Alright. I'm going to be swimming and skirmishing. When Braelnoir gets lowered into the tank, I'll summon an ally who is more comfortable in the water to aid us in our fight."

The chimermaid in the tank gives an odd look to the other competitors and she kind of freezes at sight of the Arvec. It's floating closer! And closer! She clings to the side of the tank and struggles through another series of communicative gestures, "Hi. Paid fight question. Group remain question." <handspeech>

"Ladies and Gentlement! The water is warm and risen! The heroes are ready to rescue the princess. Our mages our standing by, place your bets the bookies are finishing!"

The orange-hued Arvec gives the mermaid a strange look, then flashes some quick signs at her. "Figured. We got you." <handspeech>

Fireworks go off, shooting up around the sides of the aquatic arena and exploding high in the air above. Braelnoirs tank lifts off, hovering over the water to the centre, "Here we go! Win the Fin!"

It inverts and she is dumped in.

The arena is a 50' radius circular pool, 10' deep. Braelnoir has been dropped in the centre. Ladders are near the heroes, who are arrayed on a platform at the north end. Mages appear arrayed around the southern half, and summon squids for the battle as the mermaid is dropped in.

As soon as Braelnoir, the 'mermaid' hits the water, the orange Arvec and the oruch whip out scrolls and read them. They crumble to dust and a glittering shimmer settles on them and surrounds them.

Around the arena, there is the plop-splash of summoned squids hitting the water and being sent on attack. There is only one target in the water currently, Braelnoir, and they converge.

Cryosanthia says, "so, the squid can move enough to get to Braelnoir, so they'll attack,
she's the only target. This guy is really endangering you."

The squids all converge on the dusky silver mermaid. It's a light a nightmare as the swarm, flying by with beaks and tentacles, each suction cup having a tiny claw. Their beaks bite, tentacles wrap around her, but fail to grab hold.

Blood is in the water.

The hero's platform on the side of the aquatic arena is 50' from her. Depending how the adventurers move, they'll get a certain distance. Unless they can run on water or turn into an aquatic, it will take time to reach her. It's a circular, 50' radius pool with the mermaid dropped right in the middle of it.

As Braelnoir is unceremoniously dumped into the center of the pool, Lanier looks skyward and calls out, "Gilead, Master of Beasts and Lord of the Rangers, I call upon the aid of our allies to turn aside these foul attackers and aid our friend." He points towards Braelnoir and a moment later, there's a crash of thunder and a dolphin seeming to be plucked from midjump into the ocean only to land in this pool. On the way by, Lanier is caught in the shoulder by a pectoral fin, sending both him and the dolphin crashing into the water with a splash that causes roucous laughter to peel through the crowd. Pressing forward, Lanier begins swimming hand over hand towards Braelnoir.

The Chimermaid's perhaps foolish pang of reassurance at the Arvec's response is short lived as she is, despite the pomp and pageantry, unceremoniously dropped into the drink. She is a little disoriented and surfaces mostly due to what remains of her natural buoyancy in time to get swarmed by a cloud of calimari. She breaches the surface, face contorted in a silent cry as she is beset upon by the conjured cuisine, no doubt to Ghisha's amusement. Gnashing her teeth in anger, she thrusts a first into the first knot of tentacles she sees, it's beak puncturing the silvered hide over her knuckles for the effort, but she thumps it good. She somehow evades the retributive actions of his fellows and starts to somewhat awkwardly splash toward her would be rescuers.

Victor peers at the water. As their opponent was announced he revised his strategy. He chants a quick spell. Weblike surfaces appear between his fingers and his feet elongate into finlike appendages. He leaps into the water with a huge splash that indicates how much he must weigh. Along with a complete lack of buoyancy he sinks slowly towards the bottom, but is otherwise motionless for a moment as his senses adjust to his new surroundings.

A cloud of ink floods the water, released by the squid the mermaid punched.

The barker calls out, "Isn't it exciting! Our little mermaid princess is fighting for her life. Already she's bleeding, but the heroes are coming to her rescue! Let's make it a little more challenging, shall we!"

Around the aquatic arena, more squids are summoned, with the splish-plash as they enter the water and move on the attack. Up at the hero's platform, the arvec and the oruch dive into the water. They seem to move easily, without impediment, catching up to Victor. It's at that moment everyone is swarmed by squids.

Cryosanthia says, "These are squids for the NPCs to deal with, so don't worry about them.

As her friends and colleagues make their way to close the distance to the prize, and Brae's assailants start to disperse, the thought crosses her mind that she may as well give Kor a show within her limits. While unable to make her traditional call, she feels, as her blood and some of that glowing blue junk from some of the patches that have gone dark are proof that this is a real enough fight. Balling her fists, all of them, she decides to go all in and starts to beat the ink out of her constricting new outfit. Alas, she can't seem to do better than glance for all the trashing.

"Look at our plucky heroes! Interesting strategy. One of them is wandering all over the place. Pssst, buddy, squids aren't confused by that. The big hulking behemoth has dropped straight to the bottom but is powering around like a champ. Meanwhile, those two tough gals seem to have a plan in mind." The barker stomps around, waving and gesturing to the crowd.

"Our poor little mermaid isn't looking so good. Trust me, it gets me right in the feels! You know what! What would make this better? Eels! Eels for the Feels! Doesn't that sound good? Cheer everyone."

As the crowd cheers, the sound muffled but still audible underwater, there are more summonings. More splishing as things fall in the water and join the fray.

Victor is still getting a feel for moving in the water. His fin-like feet help with steering and generating thrust, while his webbed hands also help with maneuvering, especially in short distances. All of this unfortunately occurs to him a bit late. He's grabbed by the squid. Concentrating, he triggers his armor. Segmented plates unfold seemingly from nowhere until he's covered in a thick layer of armor.

Lanier reacts by pulling away as he's latched onto by the squid. He kicks off, swiming another few feet towards Braelnoir as he reaches down to pull the handaxe off his belt. He takes a careful aim given the proximity of the squid to him, and then swings down with the axe. Even in spite of the water resistance, the ranger is able to muscle past and make contact with the squid, cutting deeply into it and killing it instantly. As the squid releases him, he's already kicking towards Braelnoir again.

Most of her glowing patches have seeped into the water, dissipating into the inky blackness around her, and Brae gets creative in her determination not to embarass herself in front of Kor, her allies, workmates and arch nemesis. Victor sees there are still squids. But their numbers have been thinned. His own contribution has been less than meaningful up to now. He's just grown accustomed to moving underwater, and he has yet to try fighting. But still, there are some tactics a war golem can always rely on. Day or night or even on another plane. Or underwater. Victor swings an arm, smashing the fist into a squid so hard that it stops moving.

There are other combatants in the water. The arvec and the oruch, overlooked, as everyone deals with the mayhem around them. The pair has been working their way forward, seemingly benefitting from a Free Movement spell, and little else. Their fighting has also been a struggle, there are several tears and bites in their skin, the water around them is pink from their bleeding.

They arrive beside Victor and the embattled Braelnoir. She feels her wrist grabbed, the upper wrist of her dominant side, and a heavy gauntlet is shoved on. It reshapes to fit with her fins.

Meanwhile, the barker looks at frothing and darkening water, "Ooooh folks! Look at them go! What do you think will happen? You know, this reminds me of the last time I saw my wife. I distinctly remember the old battleaxe saying, 'Help me! Help me! A sharrggulglg!' What do you think folks, should we help them out with a shark?"

Cheers go up in the crowd. There is a much larger splash.

There aren't many squids left, but the remaining two become quite annoying. One latches onto Lanier's Dolphin while the other goes after Victor. Of course, these things aren't coordinated or working together, so while one manages to bite the golem, it gets entangled with the electric eels that have arrived and are swimming amongst the party. The eel, is not interested in this sort of relationship, and shocks a squid even as it dives in to bite at Victor. It misses. Lanier feels a fishy pressure then a painful nip. As the eels and the squid all begin going after each other, Lanier uses the opportunity to arch in the water, coming up between all four of his compatriots. He reaches down to his belt, removing a scroll from its case. He opens the scroll, looks over the familiar text and starts reading the words beneath the water. He reaches out, touching all four and then himself quickly. The words on the scroll fades, and the squids and eels fully turn on each other, ignoring the adventurers as if they simply didn't exist.

Lanier lets the scroll go, looking around the pool that they are in. He tilts his head back and squints, noting the glint of gold on Braelnoir's tail. He turns a flip in the water, swimming lower, reaching out, and plucking the gold ring up and away from the fighter, perhaps thankful she's unable to kick him at present. Without words, because underwater, he pockets the ring and returns to his straight up and down swimming.

Victor glances at Lanier's scroll. He catches a glimps of a few of the arcane symbols before they fade. Once he notices the reaction - or lack of reactions - from the animals surrounding them, he realizes what spell was cast. The armor protecting him clatters and pings as it folds away. Once again it's hard to see where it comes from. Then he begins casting a spell of his own. The welts and other signs of damage on his body begin to smooth out.

There is nothing to attack but each other. For the adventurers it's clear this is an unnecessary bady idea. For the animals, it's the food chain. While one of the eels goes and feeds on the floating calamari, the other two rip apart the remaing moving ones. They have barely managed a few bites when the shark cruises in.

So much blood in the water, it is instantly drawn to this location, but the spell is enough to neutralize its senses. Several times it swims towards the group, only to turn away at the last instant. The eels, the squids, are chomped down in short order, leaving it the sole aquatic predator.

"Well, that's interesting folks! Looks like our hero has tagged her tail! He found the Win on her Fin, it was obviously really if you think about it. She's a fiesty one though, lets see if he can land her."

The shark turns sharply as Braelnoir throws her first punch, then circles around. Somehow, the strange bubbling war-golem drew it's attention. Ignoring all the nicely leaking organics around, it cruises in to take a piece of Victor.

Braelnoir isn't particularly proud of that swing, though it was full of heart. She gets ready, thogh as the shark is still hungry and there's blood, most of it hers, all over the place, as Victor moves forward to draw it attention with... is that Auquan? As it moves broadside to her to go after Victor (sharks love metal), she thrusts her loaner gauntlet in through the shark's bank of gills, unleashing a cloud of blood and a somewhat acrid smell, a tingle in the water the cartilliginous creature thrashes free and rolls over into it's death throes, corroding from the inside out. She looks at the gauntlet. o O (That was AWESOME!) O o and, she thrusts a metal fist in the air with a harsh rasp, no doubt meant to be a howl of victory.

The dissolving continues through the shark carcass, with bits of it boiling and roiling as it turns in the water until it's completely gone. The taste on the lips means everyone is swimming in its remains.

"Woaw!" The barker says, staring at the victory, watching the water bubble. "Looks like our little mermaid is not a damsel in distress. I gotta go folks, thanks for coming, collect your winnings. It's been a wonderful show we've had here today. BYE!"

He runs from the stage, grabbing one of the summoning mages, "You deal with her!" Then, he's gone.

The arvec and the orc wave, with the wrap arvec making some gestures towards Braelnoir, "wrap up, out." and they move towards the ladders at the heroe's platform. <handspeech>

Victor surfaces and lifts his head out of the water, just in time to spot the departing barker. Turning towards the ladders with his hands, he kicks his fins to propel him in that direction. But by the time he emerges he has lost sight of the barker. Turning back towards the tank he looks to see if anyone else seems to need help climbing out. "I will see you at the wedding, I hope." he nods to the Arvek.

Braelnoir looks to the Arvek and Oruch and she makes a few short gestures, "Thank you" before balling her fist and clapping it against her chest. She turns to Lanier silently reaching out to clap his shoulder, as Victor's already scooted on ahead, grinning before she starts toward a ladder to get out of the pool before he gets away. <handspeech>

Lanier looks back as his shoulder is clapped, nodding to Braelnoir before he turns and makes the swim over to the ladder. As he ascends, he looks between Victor and the Arvek Nar, "The hell you will." He then adds, "Help me with the sling, will you?" As he gets up on to the hero's platform and turns the sling around and down, dipping it into the water and asking Braelnoir, "Do you need this?"

Getting Braelnoir out of the tank isn't too difficult, it's a short climb on the ladder. The struggle is largely due to her coordination, and a general unwillingness of the others to grab random parts of her and haul away. The sling helps immensely, and that makes climbing the ladder easier for her.

Finally, the chimermaid is sprawled out on the hero's platform. Her fins are flexible enough but some natural sitting positions don't feel all that good anymore.

As soon as the oruch is done assisting with the sling, she steps up to Lanier, and takes hold of the front of his shirt, pulling him close to her face. "You betta think real careful about what taking that ring means. Real careful about owning ideas, you hear?"

The arvec meanwhile, makes some more gestures at Braelnoir. "understand spoken orders?" <handspeech>

Braelnoir is grateful, if somewhat embarassed by all the help required to get out of the pool. As she settles in place, trying to get comfortable, she nods up to the Arvec with a thumb's up before she pulls off the gauntlet to offer it back her way, "Yes. Body change, ear work." Then she points to her throat and shrugs. Seeing the Oruch getting in Lan's face, she tucks her lip under her upper teeth and trills out a short whistle, "He partner." <handspeech>

As soon as Braelnoir is up on the platform, Lanier is turned to be seized by the shirt. The ranger's face darkens, easily evident through the blonde hair matted wildly across his face. He reaches up with his left hand, seizes the oruch by her left wrist, presses down to break the hold on his shirt, and then push away. Even one-armed, the sheer raw power of the Gilead ranger is evident. He raises a finger, pointed towards the oruch in a warning manner, "First, she's a friend and an adventuring companion. Not a prize to be won in a tank. Second, I'm a hunter of Gilead. If I'm ever wed, it'll be after a damn good hunt and I'll see to it that it'll be a chore to catch me. This is not up for further discussion." He turns away, taking a few steps back towards Braelnoir. The fins get a wondering look and then he looks back towards Braelnoir, "Rough night?" He clears his throat and then asks, "How do we revert this change?"

Victor watches the conversation play out. He glances at the Arvek and also the Oruch. Then he looks at Braelnoir. "Yes, there must be a way to undo this."

Brae sighs and gives a little shrug before she looks to Victor, and, at his remark she shrugs and wiggles her fingers in the way mundanes impersonate 'casting spells'. She then crooks a finger to beckon him closer. She frowns a little and looks around for that little feathered bastard, hopefully Lanier and the girls can coexist long enough for her to at least spot the thing. Most of her glowy patches are dark now, and she's still covered in wounds, but, can't have everything.

"Stand down Terry, he checks out. She says he's a partner." The arvec nar says, looking over at the orc, then squatting down. She beats a fist on her chest. Up close, she's a lot of interesting colours, primarily orange, but there are deeper reds in the shadows and hollows of her skin. Her nose, is a brilliant yellow, her hair is a similar shade, even though it's coarse. "Firestarter."

"Some kind of Kaelyn transformation? Rough one. You got some chunks taken out of you." She pushes the gauntlet back towards Braelnoir, "Loan. Don't let any fuckers mess with you. Close your fist tight on that, it locks on. No one takes it off you. You can find me here, or Merkabah. Munch knows me. I knew some bullshit was going down."

The giant crow is still around, sitting on the railing near the stands. It's clearly watching. The ranger in particular, but the chimermaid is shiny and interesting also.

Lanier stands from his spot near Braelnoir, looking around until he spots the witchcrow. Whistling to gets is attention, he turns to point towards Braelnoir, "Can you or your master fix her? Change her back into a human?" He reaches down to his belt, pulling another one of the scrolls from his belt, holding it out and to the witchcrow, "As a favour?"

GAME: Lanier rolls 1d20+6: (8)+6: 14

Braelnoir blinks as Kaelyn is invoked, but nods with a shrug then starts to gesture some more, a little clearer as she's getting more practice differentiating her limbs, and some of those are involved with the gauntlet, "Fire start. Chaos change this morning. I Know Eat. One day you me fight other enemy. Glory." and she claps her fist to her chest again. Then, Lanier starts talking to the bird and she reaches out to bap at his arm, looking quite dismayed before her fingers fly, "Enemy bird. Owner big enemy, one day I kill." <handspeech>

The evil looking giant black bird perks up, fluffs its feathers. Its beady eyes gleam, as its head switches from one side to the other, looking at the scroll an eye at a time. It hops along the railing, moving sideways in eagerness. It whistles, repeating the one Lanier used with striking mimicry. It looks at him, at the scroll, at him, at the scroll. It looks at a blank spot on the ground, away from the water tank but an easy throw for the ranger. Once it has stared, it looks back at him, then caws.

"Ask!"

Firestarter nods, watching Braelnoir's signing, then holds a hand up towards Lanier. "She says that bird is her enemy, owner is her enemey. S'on her warpath."

"I don't think you should deal with it."

The crow gives her a look, and caws.

The arvec nar signs some more at Braelnoir, "You Me Glory Kill Will." <handspeech>

Looking towards Braelnoir for a moment as his arm is bapped, he shapes his head slowly at the handspeech, "I don't... understand..." He looks up towards Firestarter now, listening. He then turns his head back to the crow, tilting his head to to the side as disappointment flashes across his face. He shakes his head emphatically, firmly replying, "No. Do."

GAME: Lanier rolls Linguistics: (2)+4: 6

"Ask!" The crow caws again, then it leaps in the air, flies up to the pillar where it stashed the potion and sunrod, getting them, and then it flaps off, flying first high then away. A few combatants and spectators watch it as it leaves, but it seems to be recognized as someone's familiar and that gives it a modicum of protection. Soon it's out of sight.

A white-scaled sith-makar in wizard robes arrives in the coloseum. The large water arena immediately draws her attention and heads that way. She moves like she's in charge, powerful and regal, a bearing that's ruined when she breaks into a run.

"Braelnoir! Hello Lanier." She nods at the arvec nar and the oruch, "Peace on your nests."

"What happened? I heard there was a mermaid battle, we need to get you healed. Do any of you have healing?"

Lanier watches the witchcrow fly off, his lips thinning as he returns the scroll to his belt, willing to hang on to it until the familiar's master comes through. With a grunt, the Ranger turns around and then looks towards Braelnoir, "There are many unnatural occurrences happening in Alexandria right now. Either the familiar's master knows how to fix it, knows something about it, or knowns nothing about it. Either way, that is a channel I'm willing to exploit until such time as you do what you feel you need to do." He looks towards Cryosanthia and nods his head, "Peace on your nest." He pulls a vial from the belt, turning to offer it towards Braelnoir, "This is all I have for healing at the moment. Please."

Braelnoir stares after the fleeing bird and grinds her teeth some before she shakes her head and sighs, reaching up to smooth her hair back over her left shoulder, the hand lingering as it brushes against the trinket in her ear. o O (Keep sending your birds, bitch. I'm coming for you.) O o There's a shudder and a shake of her head. Cryo's arrival doesn't brighten her a large amount, but she reaches a hand out to Lanier's shoulder, then regards the white sith as she's seeming more... animated than before. With Lanier's declaration she closes her eyes and starts to sign again, "Blood enemy" there is a long pause, then, another gesture string, "... killed mate." The potion offered is met by her hand closing clumsily over his, "You need." <handspeech>

Terry says, "There's healers around here for idiots that don't know what they're doing. I'll find one." She jumps down off the platform, heads off. The summoners seem to be making themselves scarce, even though it is their job and they turn a decent profit summoning monsters for people to practice against. The oruch doesn't return immediately.

The orange arvec looks at the sith for a moment, then turns her attention to Lanier. "You need it. She wants you to keep it. That bird's owner killed her mate. Blood Enemy. Find another option. Not sure she wants this shared with strangers."

Cryosanthia rears her head back. The relayed information is news to her, somewhat. She's guessed things, but a lot has been swept away with her recent events and she's got a strange sense of elapsed time now. "We should get her out of here, and this one has seen the utility of a Speak Languages Scroll. We should get one so we don't have to keep you detained as our translator. This one is Cryosanthia."

"Firestarter." The arvec nods her head at the sith.

Seeming to get it, Lanier nods his head and then looks towards the orange arvec to nod his head. Lanier's eyebrows knit together and he nods his head, "Alright." He considers it for a long moment and then looks around, "I'm going to find that sack of humanity who put this match together." He looks towards Braelnoir and asks, "Will you be alright?"

Braelnoir takes Lanier's hand and claps the other hand over it then nods. She releases her grip and claps her fist to her chest before turning to regard the ladies, "place no birds" <handspeech>

"Thank you Lanier," Cryosanthia says, examining the damage on Braelnoir and the mess in the water, "This one is sorry she wasn't here for you Braelnoir, you're an important friend to me."

"Be a better friend." Firestarter interrupts, "she wants to go where there are no birds.

The white-scale sith-makar looks over at the arvec nar. Her tail twitches, her expression is unreadable. The arvec's isn't much better. It's like two statues attempting to emote, "I'm trying to."

Cryo turns her head back to the chimermaid, "There's a place under the Arcanist's Guild, no magic. Nels was going to try going there, when he was she. It... might suppress this. It's worth a try. I'm... not sure I'm allowed in. We can use that sling and get you there. Once a healer gets here."

A healer is coming, but not soon. Things take time.
