- Title: Sibling Check In
- Emitter: Skielstregar
- Characters: Skielstregar, Seyardu
- Place: Solder's Defense
- Time: January 31st, 2022
- Summary: After being checked over -yet again- by the aides at the Defense, Skielstregar seeks out his sister, Seyardu, to catch up with her. She gives him some cake, and he gives her some good news about himself and a hunter. Though, anxieties flare when he has yet to mention this development to another person, but that gets smoothed out as Seyardu asks more about Vaera. Skiel shows off some magics, and promises to share a meal with Seyardu tomorrow after she gets some rest.
- Soldier's Defense, Midday.
It wasn't too long until the half-sil that was calling for Skielstregar scurries off. The silver and bronze scaled makari rubs his snout, him sighing deeply. "... thisss one figuresss they should all know by now that thisss one'sss vitals are different than most's..." he mumbles.
He's dressed down considerably, just in his tunic and pants, with a dagger on his hip. He huffs, then looks up and down the halls, starting to pad around to look for a familial silverscale.
Seyardu had, due to being on hand to deal with the ongoing concerns in the city, so they were not far away. This time, she was leaving a room off to the side, and she had a small cloth in one hand, which had a slice of chocolate cake in it. She does see her brother quickly, and waves to them, before making her way over.
"Peace on your nest, Skielstregar. Would you care for some cake? It was a gift for those here working and being treated, and it sounds like you have earned that with how many times they are checking over you."
Skielstregar smiles upon seeing Seyardu, and he strides up to her. He takes care not to smush was she has in hand, but he loops an arm around her and gives a brief hug. "Peace on your nest as well, Seyardu," he rumbles in their native tongue. He pulls away, eyes the treat, then chuffs. "Certainly," he accepts before sighing. "This one has been looked over far too many times. This one has told them, this one's heart doesn't beat fast, and they are always cold to the touch. It is not the plague."
"It is odd, yes. This one is cold, but not to the degree yourself. This one would hope they would know that was a possibility." Seyardu chuckles, offering the slice of cake to her brother after escaping the hug. "At least they care, yes? Better to be certain than overlook something of concern. And I would not be happy if they did not treat my brother well. Not that it is their reason for doing such."
Hekielstregar takes the slice with a thankful nod, him eyeing it over once before-
Chomp. Chomp. Chomp.
All gone!
He licks his fangs with a blackened tongue, grinning. "Delicious!"
Wiping his mouth off with the cloth, he regards the cleric with a soft sigh. "Yes, they do care, which is why this one isn't frustrated with them. This one knows they are an anomaly."
A pause. "... oh! Right, this one has news!"
His tail starts to sway.
"I would hope it is, it seemed quite popular with everyone. You should thank Ravenstongue if you see her, she was the one who brought it for a gift." Seyardu replies with a happy hum and a thump of her tail against the stone. "Yes, they mean well, and they will have this one file now for the future, if it is needed."
The cleric takes a step back, looking down to the tail, and back up, one brow raising just slightly. "Is that so? It sounds like good news if this one had to guess. So, what is it, Skielstregar?"
Skielstregar rumbles, rubbing his chin. "Ah... this one will have to thank the Shaman then next time this one sees her. This one works with her often."
He grins at the question, him looking around as well before he gently takes hold of her arm and tugs her towards an alcove off to the side to speak more privately.
Releasing her, he turns to face, him stooping down a bit as a bit of glee is coming from him. "Well... this one, um.." he softly speaks.
He taps his fingers together, the talons clacking. "... do you remember what this one spoke to you about in Mictlan, yes? Well, um, this one finally managed to bumble his way towards one."
A tiny, demure smile graces his maw.
"... this one... sshaaa, this has confided to Vaera."
Seyardu joins Skielstregar in finding a spot off from the main paths, and she sits down on one of the many benches in the area. "Well, are you sure your heart beats slowly?" Seyardu chuckles, reaching to poke the silver and bronze makari in the chest, before she settles down to listen.
"You manage to come to a decision? That is wonderful! This one is beyond happy for you, Skielstregar." She continues, seeming to share in the happiness, and pulling her brother into a hug. "And, it seems you are quite happy. This one imagines things went well? And what of the other?"
Skielstregar chuffs. "Yes, it does," he rumbles and chuckles, watching as the finger pokes his chest. He shifts a bit on his feet, but it was his sister, so he doesn't raise a fuss as the finger presses against fabric and the fresh, tough scales underneath.
He bobs his head, tail swishing to and fro. Skiel hums, happy as he engulfs his sister in an embrace. "This one is quite happ-"
His tail stops.
The happy slowly morphs into anxiety. ".............. this one has not told them yet."
"Easy, Skielstregar, it is alright." Seyardu responds, taking a moment to hug him more tightly. "It does not change what has happened, and you should be happy about it. This one is sure that things will work out."
"If necessary, this one can go with you to talk to them?" She offers. "And, this one does not wish to take away from what happened. You will need to tell this one everything you can about it!"
Skiel languidly sighs, resting his head atop Seyardu's as he tries to be happy about it, but clearly the thought of breaking the news to the other had been very firmly lodged out of his head before, and the seed has been planted now.
"No, this one can tell them, they just... haven't ran into them yet."
Seyardu's enthusiasm about the news does a little bit to chip away the sudden anxiety, as the brother pulls away slightly to weakly smile. "Um... well.... what... what do you want to know?" he asks, a little flat footed and discombobulated from being 'really happy' to 'I'm going to have to break someone's heart' to 'it's okay be happy'.
"Well, how did it go?" Seyardu asks, sitting back in the bench and looking up to the much larger makari beside her. "This one knows Vaera somewhat, but what is she like to you? In your words and your opinions? And, what was it like? This one remembers when they confessed their feelings to Sjach, and they imagine it was a truly special moment to you."
Now that he could have a trip down memory lane, the deathly cold man warms up a bit. "It went... well. Vaera had feelings for this one for some time, apparently. And this one didn't know until a few weeks ago."
He sits down beside his sister, his tail wrapping around him so he could hold it in his lap. A hand plays with a silver bangle on it. "... this one is... still sorting out their feelings, but they know they have feelings for her. There have been... erm... too many near misses as of late. And we're both afraid. So... we came together to help overcome that. And it has been, well, wonderful."
Skiel looks down to Seyardu. "There wasn't really a moment. A lot of little moments. Slowly inching closer to one another night by night. Catching the other staring, watching. To this one Vaera is... someone they can trust to keep them straight if they stray."
Then, embarrassment. "... and her scales are nice."
"Near misses? This one hopes there will be few more to come, Skielstregar." Seyardu sighs, growing concerned. "But, that you are able to find someone to help you with that. And, that they are one you like as such."
"That does sound quite nice, really. And you were able to realize together that they harbored feelings for you for some time? It took this one quite some time to realize how they felt about Sjach." Seyardu chuckles. "And, you were teasing this one about the way they looked at Sjach, were you not?"
Skiel sighs. "Yes, this one hopes so as well."
He rubs his neck. "... er... this one's... predicament made them realize that they liked, well, both of them. But this one had to make a choice. And, in time, that Vaera was less a fleeting thing. And more sustainable. And... erm... this one didn't realize until waaaay later that Vaera liked them. It was only when speaking of the other that she showed more clear signs that she too harbored feelings."
He looks at the floor, staring at it. "... yes. This one did. And they do not regret it one bit," he says quietly, a small smile on him.
"And this one does not regret their actions, even if they are teased about them." Seyardu chuffs.
"It sounds like it was a difficult situation, but you can trust in yourself, Skielstregar."
"What was it that made it obvious? If they had feelings before, this one wonders how much more obvious they could be." They quietly chuckle.
Skielstregar nods. "It is... still difficult. Until they speak with the other."
He taps the tips of his fingers together. "... this one was speaking to Vaera once about the other. Then it... really seemed like she was projecting. Then it dawned on this one that she was talking about this one."
He rubs his face. "... a fool as this one was to not catch it sooner, so wrapped up in themselves and worried. But, it matters not now. We have been... trying to find where we are, as of late. We're not certain, since we have been sharing the same camp for... well. Practically as long as this one has been in Alexandros."
"Sharing camp? That is a long time for that not to be a thought." Seyardu asks, chuckling a bit more. "Though, that is understandable. She may have been bothered you did not see them like that. Perhaps even sharing camp for so long made it seem less obvious, as strange as that may be. This one thinks you will find where you are, and yourself. This city and place, it is a good spot for self reflection and growth."
Skiel chuffs. "At first, it was to keep an eye on this one when their urges were bad. Then, it was just simply easier to stay there. This one could do the heavy lifting while she did the hunting. They had expressed their... worries about getting close to someone early on. So the thought never entered this one's mind."
He smiles to himself, the half-dead man twiddling his thumbs. "... we had to get a bigger tent. You have met her, yes? She is almost as tall as this one, squeezing both of us into one tent is.. a challenge."
"And then, it was because you genuinely enjoyed eachothers company." Seyardu teases. "And a bigger tent? Are you sleeping together too? Oh, that is wonderful, Skielstregar! This one is happy for you, to find such joys in your life."
"Yes, she is quite tall. Almost as tall as you are." Seyardu nods. "And that is not even this one saying such due to their disappointingly small stature."
Embarrassment. "... yes. She is stoic, but has a humor that is always there. And everything she does is to try and make lives better for others."
Aaand the embarrassment increases three fold. "A-ah, yes. Um, we share a sleeping space. She is... very warm."
Skielstregar grins a bit. "... well, this one could pick you up and lift you above him if you wished to feel tall," he teases.
"Well, this one is happy for you. This one knows they enjoy having Sjach around, and resting next to them is wonderful. So, this one understands. They sound like a wonderful companion, Skielstregar."
The offer makes the cleric pause, and shake her head. "No, that would not work. That would just be sitting on their brother's shoulders, which, while fun, is not the same. They do have magic that makes them larger, but it is much more than the average tall person, so that does not work well, either."
His tail threatens to sway in his lap. "... shaaa, it is nice," he rumbles, looking to the ground before he watches a flicker of a lantern flame on the wall.
Skiel glances to Seyardu, him grinning some. "... well, this one has magics /too/ now, you know! And they can make themselves /and/ you large. So you can be extra tall on this one's shoulders!"
"You know magic now, too?" Seyardu asks, sitting up a bit more and giving Skielstregar a curious look. "When were you planning on telling this one?"
"That is impressive! With your strength and magic to supplement it, they imagine there are even less challenges you can not face. So staying with a companion such as Vaera should prove no trouble at all!"
Seyardu continues to chuckle for a moment, before they sigh. "Ah, that would be quite fun, but that may make this one see they are short for a giant person, as well. But you should show this one regardless, sometime!"
Skielstregar grins wide. "... this one was going to surprise you, but, alas, not all things go to plan. But, erm, yes! This one can do a little magic. The... necromancy. This one has gotten better on how to mold it to fit this one's desires."
He rubs his neck. "And Vaera can do some magics as well, and does well with things that are hard to reach. We... make a pretty good team."
He chuckles, and pats Seyardu's head. "Worry not. Though, this one could show you now, if you'd like? This one has some magics that won't break anything."
"Oh, well, I am still surprised, Skielstregar. And it is sweet you are willing to give up your surprise to help this one feel better." Seyardu chuckles. "Please, this one would love to see it! This one is too tired for much magic of their own today, but seeing how you have improved even more is inspiring. After all, this one needs a dependable brother, still!"
"This one is glad they can still be an inspiration to you despite, well, everything..." He gives her once more pat on the head.
Skiel grins, and he quickly gets to his feet. "Very well! Ah, this one will warn you, they have to get a little... erm... agitated to make it work. But don't worry, this one won't transform or anything like that."
The mixed scale takes a deep breath, and focuses. He wafts his arm forward, like he's beckoning something to go forward.
His brows pinch. "Come on... this one did this earlier..."
Another motion. Some black ichor stats to seep from between his scales around his neck and shoulders, that deathly scent coming back.
Then, a motion seems to hook something in the air. His focus clarifies, and he growls, "Do it, now!"
There's a rush of energy, and the ichor manifests along his back, sprouting and webbing out to silhouette blackened, boney wings. It folds around him, then >pops<, vanishing.
Though, ever so faintly... one could see eddies and webs pulsing around him. He brings up a hand, and raps his knuckles against something invisible. He grins widely. "... it'll keep this one safer!"

"You never stopped being an inspiration, Skielstregar. Well, this one feels that, at least. They can not speak for their lacking memories, but it feels right." Seyardu sighs, rubbing her brow a moment before paying attention fully to Skielstregar. She sniffs at the air a moment, before she blinks as the black blood appears, and disappears. "Ah! That is interesting, it reminds this one of magic some of the sorcerers do. And excellent! Making sure you are safer in your travels is always a good thing, this one knows various warding spells, and they never go amiss. And you figured this out all on your own, without further study?"
Skiel gives a soft smile, and he rubs his neck. "This one is glad that they never stopped being one..."
Though, he grins properly, and winks. "This one did do a /little/ bit of studying. They went to the libraries and read some! It was just a manner of figuring out, well, how to do it on this one's own volition."
He rubs his chin. "... like a sorcerer does... that... perhaps that is right. Perhaps the magic is, literally, in this one's blood from all the necromancy."
"Well of course, reading and researching on your own is different from getting formal training or guidance." Seyardu nods, grinning back to her brother. "It means you are working hard at improving yourself. And it shows, you have grown so much in such a short time."
"However, that is not to mean that learning from others is a bad thing." Seyardu chuffs. "It is good to acknowledge what you can learn from others. Perhaps you should seek out some to speak to about it? They may have some worthwhile insight."
Skielstregar nods! "Thank you for noticing! And of course not. This one had asked Shaman Randolf about other uses of necromancy, aside from making nefarious undead, and he shared information with this one that gave this one some insight. And... to not be as afraid of this power within this one."
"Though, this one would not mind your insights at all. Perhaps over a meal of some sort," he smiles.
"Oh, Randolf? They are quite the competent wizard, yes. This one has adventured with them before, and they are always dependable." Seyardu smiles. "Necromancy is not inherently bad, yes. It is as much about the movement of energy as anything else."
"A meal is always welcome to share with you, Skielstregar. Perhaps another time? This one would like to be fully rested and prepared to broach such topics."
Skielstregar hums. "Yes, this one has worked with him many times as well. He is... very sure of himself when it comes to magic. And that is what he said as well."
He smiles more, then steps forward to embrace the smaller silverscale. "That sounds splendid. This one can meet you at the Fernwood tomorrow?"
Seyardu returns the hug with a happy chuff. "This one would be happy to meet you some time tomorrow for a meal, Skielstregar. It will be something to look forward to, yes!"
"But tomorrow, for certain. This one needs a long rest after tending to so many today, and, they imagine you would like to get back to Vaera after being stuck here for so long?"
Skielstregar gives her head a good noogie before pulling away, smiling. "Ah, yes. This one, erm, is in town with her. She comes here often for supplies you can't get in Mictlan."
"But! This one will look forward to it! See you around, sister! Rest well!" He gives a wave, then strides out with his head held high.
He's in a lot better mood now.
