- Temple District, Late Morning
Finally, the weather has abated. Instead of the downpour of freezing rain and sleet, instead in its place is gentle snow flurries. The only evidence of horrid weather was that of the mounds of ice that the sun could not reach. People are finally able to get about their days.
"Awwwh..." a massive silverscaled makari whines, stepping out from the Temple of Daeus's grounds. "Thisss one liked the weather." Rolling his shoulders, the massive amount of weaponry that he usually carries is gone, save for just an intimidating looking silver halberd in hand, and his armor. Skielstregar shakes his head, casting that aside and standing up straighter. It looks as if there has been a massive weight recently lifted from him, a joyful swaying of his armored tail clacking quietly behind him.
Kira is crossing the square amidst the light flurries, empty baskets over her shoulders and in hand. The sizeable makari is conspicuous, and even shiny, all despite no thick layer of ice at the moment. A hand lifts to wave to Skiel, followed by a smile call of "Hello! You look much less frozen today!"
Skielstregar gives big yawn, maw opening a massive array of gnarly teeth. Both hands pressing against his low back to streeeetch! The halberd was let go. It simply stay upright.
"Mrrh?" he looks about- "Ah! Yesss! Thisss one isss no longer a cube made of ice. But they are ssstill remarkably chilly, and that iss jussst asss well!"
He scoops his weapon up, and taps his chin as he ambles lazily on over. "... Ssshaman- no. Sssentiel.... Ky- Kira. Yesss. Peassse on your nessst."
Kira's smile broadens and she nods as he greets her. She then takes a moment to clear her throat before attempting a response, "Peace on your nest, Warrior Skielstregar." She is not wholly certain she pronounced everything correctly, if the tentative and inquisitive turn to her smile afterwards is any indication. As she doesn't have a tail to sway. <draconic>
Skiel perks up at the tongue, him rumbling warmly. "Much easier to sssay like that, no?" the makari says with mirth. He glances over the empty baskets. "Celessstial Mother'sss dutiesss keeping you busy? Thisss one thanks you for the help the other day, elssse they would have been sssitting there all night!"
Kira beams when it seems she said it correctly. "Your name is, yes. The rest... I'm sure I have a strange accent." Another nod follows with a lift of basket. "There are always others in need in one way or another. I'm happy to help, just as I was with you. It's my pleasure. I know you enjoy the cold, but I am glad the weather is better." She pauses after and her smile dims. "Hopefully it won't come back, now."
"And thisss one doesssn't in thiss tongue?" Skielstregar teases, followed by a bob of the head. "Yesss, there isss alwaysss thossse that need aid. It isss a never ending thing, but makesss for bettered livesss."
The Daeusite scratches his neck. "... yess. Erm. Thisss one isss glad it isss gone for the othersss. But they musssst admit they missed it. It wasss fun for thiss one."
He tilts his head at Kira. "Hopefully not, no. But the weather isss the weather, and it doesss asss it will?"
Kira nods lightly. "I don't think this weather was ... natural. Something, a thing, was making storms. It isn't making them now, which is good." She banishes unpleasant thoughts, then, and her smile rekindles. "I'm sure there will be more normal winter cold for you to enjoy. I haven't met many Makari who like the cold... though I haven't met that many Makari total, too."
Skielstregar quirks his head to the side. "It waass not natural? That isss- hrm. Thisss one figured it wasss just an oddity. Weather here isss alwaysss odd to thisss one."
He rumbles warmly, shiny scales sparkling as he shifts on his feet. "No, not many kin enjoy the cold. But thisss one hasss sssilver blood, it isss mossst enjoyable and comfortable!" As evidence, he turns his head to the sky, inhales, then lets free a small plume of frozen air to billow forth.
He looks back to Kira, grinning. "Not many kin here, no. Sssave for Ssshaman Zeke and Dancer Aelwyn, thisss one doesss not run into many in the sssoftskin city. Though thisss one travelsss between Mictlan and here often."
Kira's smile brightens again at mention of Zeke. "Not many here in the city, no. I have not visited Mictlan in a long time. I should, when I have the chance. The winter is when many are most in need, in staying warm enough. If only we all had silver blood?" The last is a bit teasing, even if it would be very helpful in theory.
Skielstregar laughs. "If only. But there would a lot off strangenesss if that wasss the case! Odd magicsss and lotsss of randomly frozen thingsss." He looks over his shoulder, towards the northern road that leads out of the district. "Mictlan isss warm thankfully, if you need a warm place. Thisss one is certain kin there would welcome you. Esspecially one of the Celestial Mother, Sssister Seyardu hass done much there for them."
"That would be very strange," Kira agrees with amusement. "...or maybe no one would think it strange, then, with everyone like that?" She doesn't think too hard on that, though. She is a healer, not a scholar, and might break something.
"Oh! Yes, your sister! I think I was wrong before, and did meet her. Once. Briefly. I do still look forward to meeting her more properly some time. She follows his look north. "Were you heading to Mictlan today?"
Skiel's brows raise. "Hrm. That isss a good point. It would be the norm..." He trails off, looking up to the sky and scratching his chin in thought. Perhaps imagining what it would be like with a civilization full of just the silverscale. Blink. He shakes his head. Probably not a good idea.
His attention is pulled back with him perking up. "Oh! You have? That isss good," he hums proudly. "Thisss one is glad sshe iss meeting othersss. Erm. Perhapsss. Though thisss one'sss steed may not make it very far with the ice ssstill on the roadsss. Perhapsss tomorrow. Thisss one ssstill hasss some... thingsss they need to sssort out," he murmurs, glancing to the halberd in his hand. "It hasss been an eventful past few daysss for thisss one."
"It's always good to meet others," Kira agrees, though adds, "Others that are pleasant, that is." She notices the glance to the weapon. "I hope your eventful past days were also pleasant? This city always has something happening and it's not always pleasant things. I'd almost forgotten how ... busy everything and everyone can be here."
Skielstregar nods sagely. "Yesss. Sssometimess the unpleasant isss... testing."
He shifts on his feet, perking up. "Mossstly yesss. Ssshaman Zeke helped thisss one with sssome... thingsss with the Dragonfather, and helped thisss one get sssome questionsss answered that thisss one had for ssssome time."
He releases the weapon. It stays upright on its own accord. With a huff, he puts his hands on his hips and gives it a look. "Thisss one learned that apparently thisss wasss once a ssservant of His Brilliance," he motions towards the shiny weapon, the runes across the flat of the metal glimmering softly. "And thisss one knew it hasss a mind of itsss own, but thisss development isss confusssing."
Kira is smiling more. Again. Still? "Zeke is very wise and very helpful. I couldn't think of anyone else more able to aid you." Her attention is then pulled to the weapon and only now does she realize it is standing up on its own. "A servant of The Sun-er Dragonfather? So it is intelligent, or really has a mind of its own?" She continues to look at it, curiously. "That is amazing. It sounds like the sword of someone I know... but I don't know much about weapons." She holds out empty hands. "I am a healer, a protector, and not a warrior, so I don't use them."
"Thisss one iss very glad for hisss aid and hisss open mind," Skielstregar hums warmly before crossing his arms to look at the halberd. "Yesss, of the Sssun Lord. Thisss one... isss unsure if it iss intelligent."
The runes on the weapon dim, and the blade faces away from the two of them on its own accord.
The makari clears this throat. "E-Erm- wait, no, thisss one did not mean to insssult. They apologize."
It doesn't turn back, but the runes return to their normal glimmer.
The makari sighs, scratching his head. "Like that. Confusing. But, someone with a sssword like that? Hrm. Thisss one hasss heard tales of sssuch a thing. The only other person thisss one can think of swith a ssword like that isss Warrior Andelena, Sunguard. We both are at a losss on our weaponsss."
He looks down to empty hands, then to Kira. A pause, and a warm hum. "That isss okay. The realm alwayssss needsss people like you. They will keep sssuch in mind if they are injured and need tending," he chuckles.
Kira blinks as the weapon turns away, as if... It seems Skielstregar had that sense, too. Of course, he is much more familiar with the halberd than she is. "We meant no offense," she assures, speaking to it. She steps toward, though tentatively; she wouldn't want to make anyone or anything uneasy, even a weapon. "Oh. I was thinking of another, but maybe the Sunguard could help you, or you could help each other?"
"I always hope that, one day, weapons won't be needed. No offense to you," she adds to the halberd, "nor the warriors that wield them. I know I will never witness that, but it is still a hope."
The halberd slowly turns back towards the two, as if it was part of the conversation once more after the apology has been rendered. Skiel reaches out, patting the flat of the axe head. "Sssee? All isss good," he warmly hums to it.
Back to the conversation at hand, he tilts his head to the side. "Ah, another? Hrm, perhapsss thisss isssn't too uncommon. But yesss, we have been touching bassse with eachother about it. It isss just.... an... eni.. enim.... enigimia. Enig. Mia. Enigmia. Yesss," he stuggles for a moment, getting tongue tied.
The halberd doesn't seem to react to the desire for no weapons. It just stands there. "Thisss one wissshes sssuch a day where we turn ssswordsss to plowsss," Skiel sighs. "They would ssstay with their Chiuaa and jussst fell treesss for Mictlan. But it isss commendable for you to have sssuch asperations."
Kira turns from the blade to refocus on Skiel. "It is always easier to learn, to explore, with others." At his commendation, her cheeks color some. "Thank you for understanding. So many think the idea is foolish... Oh! You have a Cihuaa? Congratulations!" She has much to learn about Makari, but she knows the word and most of the significance.
"Perhapsss it isss foolisssh. Perhapsss othersss are foolisssh not having peaceful asssperationssss," Skielstregar shrugs. "Thisss one isss of the sssame mindssset, they try to not fight unlesss it'sss needed."
Now it was his turn for his cheeks to color. Well, less color, and more gain a few new icicles. "Ssshaa... thank you. Cihuaa Vaera meansss much to thisss one, and hasss helped thisss one through many dark timesss. Redssscale, metal leg."
"You are very welcome," Kira beams. "It is always wonderful to find friends. Finding the one who is so much more, that's not something everyone is able to do." She makes mental note of the name and description, though is sure his Cihuaa is so much more than that, of course. "Thank you for sharing. One more person I'd be delighted to meet. I know that some are more private than others. I hope I didn't pry."
Skiel rubs his neck, chuckling. "Yesss. The circumssstancesss of our meeting are... odd, but... what isss it that sssoftskinsss say? Oppositesss attract? Redssscalesss warm and hot. Silverssscalesss cold."
He holds onto his halberd idly, like a walking stick, but his free hand waves off the notion. "If it wassss overly private, thisss one wouldn't ssshare. Thisss one isss just alwaysss happy to ssspeak with othersss."
The halberd moves again, it bonking skiel lightly beside the head with the flat of the blade. He looks to it in confusion. "... what?" Staring. More staring. Then he stands straighter in realization. "Oh! You're right, Malefic, thisss one mussst train today, asss they have been a bit lazy with the weather! It wasss nice to see you again, Sssentiel Kira."
Despite knowing Skiel's preferences and having just been given the description of his cihuaa, Kira didn't have the thought until he points it out. She looses a brief, bright laugh. "So you compliment each other perfectly! That is wonderful." She is pleased that she wasn't overly nosy, then nods as Skiel seems to be excusing himself. "Please, don't let me keep you. I should get these " a basket is patted "back to the temple, myself. May The Healer's Grace be with you, Skielstregar."
