- The TarRaCe, Evening
A regular night at the TarRaCe, somewhat bustling but not overly so, staff on hand able to handle everything with ease. An oruch woman was keeping everything under control as the proprietor was out of town for now.
Usually working behind the bar, but not today, is a tired, but good spirited eglarin woman in rainbow of ribbons plops down at a booth, waiting for any friends to show up. A pitcher of ale is ordered, and she sprawls out, limbs and wings everywhere on the booth.
A small, slightly less frequent sith-makar was not far behind the egalrin who sprawled out in the Tarrace. Eztli wandered into the building, and the sorceress hopped up onto the other side of the booth with a small sigh. "Worth the extra bit of trek to get here." She chuckles. "How're you holding up, Slix?"
Slixvah grins, peeking up from over the table. "Totes worth," she coos, a feather animating and pouring the both of them out two drinks. She stretches, sitting upright and sliding around to sit closer to Eztli. "Doin' alright. A bit tired, all tha' biz wit' th' gardens, and a bit wit' helpin' home, I'm tired. But! I got a drink, and I got a friend! How are you? I didn't even kno' ya could /do/ that stuff back there!" she grins, very much so impressed.
"As long as you're not saying that since you work here and get discounts or something. Heck even then, I'm not going to turn down any cheaper drinks." The small makari laughs as she takes her ale and empties almost half of it in one go. Eztli lets out a long breath. "I'd expect you to be tired, I was real worried about you there. But, well, never seen me do that before? I tend to avoid setting things on fire unless I can help it. I could say the same for you you know, some of that magic you were doing is certainly new."
"Oh you bet your cute ass we're getting discounts," Slix snorts. "But naw, the baths while drunk is pretty damn nice." She tops off Eztli's drink before she herself downs a large gulp of her own. "No, I haven't. And it was /really freaking cool/!"
She rubs her neck. "I was worried a lil' bit, but ya'lls had me. And uh, thankies, hon. I've got a bundle of new tricks."
"You sure that's a good idea, Slix? Last I checked, you aren't able to breath underwater. Oh, and thanks." The sorceress laughs, taking another drink. "I don't want to freak people out, but you know me, always been a bit more dragon-y thank most, even for a sith-makar. Doesn't feel too abnormal really, other than my throat being sore, but I hope the ale will help with that."
"Yeah, I saw you teleporting about there, and that's not something I've seen you doing before. Guess you've been practicing, if that's the case!"
Slixvah grins. "I /can/ turn into a makari, you know?" She drinks more, quirking a brow at Eztli. "Really? Going to be honest, I really couldn't tell. I like it though. I guess that's how you're so strong with them hugs!"
She tops their drinks off again, her winking at Eztli. "'course you ain't seen that before. The damn city blocks it. But you-! Gods, your fire Ez! You burn so bright! That's so-- man!"
"You could, but if you're relaxing in the baths after drinking, that sounds like a lot of effort. Can you even, or should you be doing magic while drunk? I really don't know." Eztli chuckles as she refills her drink. "Are the scales not a giveaway? I guess it's more obvious when someone isn't a sith-makar has scales where they shouldn't."
The small makari basically dunks their snout into their drink, where it burbles for a moment before she comes back up for air. "I'm just lucky those vines weren't completely fireproof, that's all."
Slixvah shrugs. "Shiftin' forms is like puttin' a new jacket ta me at this point. I've been many forms while drunk off my rear." She leans in, looking at the scales closer. "... huh. I thought ya was just a mixed scale. Maybe there's a scent or somethin' I can't pick up unless I was a makari."
She blinks at Eztli before busting out laughing. "PAh! Eztli, you're a hoot!" she grins, following suit as she sticks her whole beak into their drink too. Most of it gets sucked down before she comes back up, gasping. "Yeah. Me too! Good thing ya fire is so hot that not even that stops it! Guess you are what you breathe?" she teases.
"That, certainly sounds interesting. You're braver than I am, shifting around like that so much." Eztli sighs. "I don't even know what a mixed scale is, I just thought, have I really never brought that up before? Maybe I'm just used to it."
"That, I was embarassed, that's all." She huffs before taking another drink. "Aelwyn works here you know, if you keep talking like that he's going to overhear and get jealous."
Slixvah reaches out, wrapping an arm around Eztli encouragingly. Her face is a bit floofy, all the alcohol starting to hit her. "It's hard, ya gotta have a really strong sense of self. Thankfully I'm so damn egotistic it doesn't phase me."
She giggles heartily. "Nothing ta be embarrased about. Plus... gonna be real, he wouldn't get jealous, he'd just try and hit on us both," she relays, deadpan.
Something clicks with her. "Oh! You had these metallic scales before everything? That's... really cool! And cute!" she gushes.
Eztli hugs Slixvah back, and pulls the egalrin into the seat next to her. "I don't like messing with that magic, I don't want to think about it too much." She sighs. "But, you're right, he would probably hit on us. Hard to tell with him since he's my friend, but I'd feel bad turning him down."
"Well, yes, I did." Eztli nods, reaching for another drink and waving for another pitcher. "I did, yeah, none of that is really new to me, just never had all the white scales or, all of this, really."
"Then don't mess with it," Slixvah says simply, but smiling more as she's pulled beside the two toned makari. She leans against the small one, drinking more. "Don't feel bad. I've turned him down soooo many times. He's a guy that wants a night of fun. I'd... entertain the idea if he wasn't so forward about it, tch."
She tilts her head to the side as they get another pitcher, Slix topping them off as she leans towards Eztli to inspect the scales. A finger pokes a white one, then a brass one. "I wonder what happened to ya. I know ya had a... hard time with some things, so I can put some pieces together. But like, magically. How did this happen? Why whitescale? Why cute? Many mysteries!"
It seems like drunk Slix's has no filter for praising.
"I'm surprised, I thought you liked people being forward. But I think even with that, he's a lot more than most." Eztli chuckles. "I was trying to get the feeling when I first met him, but I get it a lot better now, it's weird. Realize now that I always knew he was a, well, he."
The small makari blinks, and looks at Slixvah with a small huff. "I wish I could tell you, I've got no clue. Course, I'm always cute, at least depending on how people feel about lizard people, I'm more curious about why there are all these massive sith-makar, and I'm just short."
Slixvah giggles. "I /do/ like people being forward. Buuut, I like a liiittle bit of calm, not a constant hormonal barrage." She blinks at Eztli, then bursts out laughing. "Yes, he is a he, I can confirm!"
Her laughter dies down as she takes another drink. Leaning against Eztli more now. "Hell yeah you are," she snorts. "I dunno. Maybe like... the magic that did this to ya only works wit' like... what you were before? Maybe there wasn't enough ta make ya tall like one. Or maybe the dragon in ya was so strong it held ya form close. Or maybe- oh! Maybe ya had a recessive white dragon lineage, and th' mojo latched onta that?" she rambles in theories.
"White dragons /are/ the smallest of the chromatics," she adds as an amusing afterthought.
Eztli blinks. "Well, I guess I'm not wrong. I just, I wasn't sure if I could tell at first, but you know, was just sort of a feeling somewhere." She sighs. "I think I can tell makari apart now, probably always could."
"I just wish, ah, it's in the past." The small makari sighs again, reaching to pour another drink.
"I've got no clue, maybe the extra inches I used to have went to the tail, maybe my bloods even more of a mess than I thought it was with multiple draconic lineages, wouldn't be a complete surprise." They consider, before stopping, and huffing again. "A white dragon is still a dragon you know, Slix. Be a bit disappointed if that was the case, really."
Slixvah giggles, nodding. "They got a little bit of a hard time to tell 'em apart, but I've... spent some time wit' 'em, so I picked up on it," she says vaguely.
She files something away briefly, the bird giggling. "Yes, it is still a dragon, and you're my most favorite teeny dragon! And tails are fun!"
She tops off their cups and takes another long sip. "You wish what, Eztli?" she gently prods the topic, her friend still looped in her arm.
"Well, I don't hate having a tail, at least." Eztli admits, hugging her own tail to her side. "You probably know them better than me, at this point. I know you don't mean anything mean by it, so I don't mind you calling me teeny."
The small makari blinks again, and sighs. "I just wish that when people are arranging marriages, ah, I'm being dumb." Eztli rambles, getting a slightly sibillant slur to their speech. "I think they're pretty shit in general, no sense in making the best of a bad situation. Doesn't matter who someone is, what matters is you actually like them, you know? Even if it's someone you might like, there's no knowing until you actually get to know them, and by that point it's too late anyways."
Slixvah giggles, looking at the tail. "It's fun! I have tailfeathers, and gettin' a tail when I'm shapeshiftin'." She rubs Eztli's arm. "I don't mean nothin' by it except tha' ya just fun sized." She sticks her tongue out.
But as the mood gets a bit more serious, she focuses on Eztli's words. She grinds her beak in thought. "You are not being dumb, Ez. Before all the things," she gestures broadly at Eztli, "Ya we're boutta be married off? That's... kinda shit. It's... is that an elvish tradition where you're from?"
"I am fun! But size has nothing to do with it." The small makari huffs, sticking their tongue back at the egalrin for a moment, before they stopped, and hang their head a bit. "Nah, it is dumb to just say, oh, if it was a cute girl, maybe it'd be different." Eztli answers with a shake of her head. "Me? Nah, aint tradition, just the usual bullshit."
The small makari gives up all pretense, and takes the pitcher off the table, tipping it directly into their mouth. "You know, good for my family, good for theirs if we get married, that sort of thing. Good for me? Irrelevant. I was planning on getting the hells out of there, but everything just tits up anyways."
Slixvah giggles at the return jest, but she shakes her head as she watches her friend sup from the entire pitcher. "... I see. Even a cute gal wit' somethin' arranged, if they ain't cool then it's gonna be miserable."
Her expression dips some. "... wow. I'm.. really sorry ya were put into that position. I kno' it didn't end up happening, but that's still really fuckin' rude, gal. Like, you're so sweet! I can't believe your consideration wasn't taken into account."
She takes a long drink, finishing her cup and holding it out for the pitcher thief to fill it back up. "... hmm. Mess of blood? You got a lot of lineages squirreled away in there? Oooh- super dragon blood?" she asks, teasing, but the question was real.
She looks at her cup. Lets out a small snort. "Heh. Tits. That's a bird."
"Yeah, you know? I guess it's just hopeful since you know, there's at least the possibility of me being happy in a situation like that."
"Yeah, wasn't much consideration for me, maybe they just hoped whatever gold I'd have would be enough to keep me happy, but I doubt it. Wasn't like we weren't well off to begin with." The small makari huffs. "Well, I don't know. Don't know if my parent's are alive, don't know he's still alive, Van wants nothing to do with me and, well."
Eztli blinks, and rubs at her eyes with one arm while the other fills up Slixvah's drink, acidently overflowing the glass. "Sorry, sorry Slixvah!" They apologize quickly, finding some of the cloth napkins at the table and wiping up. "Dragonier thing, lots of dragons there, more than a few share some blood with them. You know, not a big deal, but, I don't really want to talk more about it more, vented enough for one day." She elaborates, chuckling just a bit. "Yeah, the birds."
Slixvah ducks her head some to watch Eztli as she vents, her just listening quietly. Eyes growing saddened by the tale. "I take it Van is the guy ya supposed ta be married to-"
And then ale is splashed all over her. Slix squawks, leaning back in surprise. Then she busts out laughing, pulling her arm back and putting it atop Eztli's frantic cleaning. "Sugar, sweetie, it's alright. I got you." A twist of two fingers, a flick. And the sticky ale sloughs off Slix's clothes and feathers. "There. Now- ah. I mean, I think that's a big deal! Kinda like the sky blessing us with flight, ya'll get blessed by dragons!" she smiles. "But, I'll respect that. Thanks fo' sharin' all that."
There's a giggle. "Totally. I tell my girlfriends that too, they get a kick out of it. Well, the non-egalrin ones, anyways. Haven't dropped that one on the Egalrin one. Yet."
Eztli stops, and coughs into her arm, wiping again at her eyes. "No, different person. Someone I'd actually want to be married to, or thought I would." The small makari corrects, reaching to down the remainder of the ale pitcher, able to drink a surprising amount, but still feeling the effects. "Yeah, it is a big deal, but, no, no more talk about that, enough venting." She notes with a slightly unsteady nod. "Something good like, what, another girlfriend or girl friend? Seems like you're meeting new people every day, I don't know how you do it."
Slixvah gives a sad smile, wrapping that arm around Eztli once more. "I'm sorry hon," she drunkenly coos, poking Eztli on the snout. "You deserve better. I hope one day you find a gal that sweeps you off your feetsies!" She bops her head against one of Eztli's horns, an attempt at an encouraging gesture.
Seeing as the pitcher has been drained, she signals for another. "Ye ye. I got you," she hums before her face floofs up. "Girlfriend, not a 'friend that is a girl'. One's an elf, one's a gobber, and one's an egalrin," she lists off, counting on blurry fingers. "They're such beautiful people. I'm glad to have met them."
She looks to Eztli, a drunk yet passionate fire in her gaze. "I just like, I dunno, love people. I put myself out there. I want to be seen, I want to be heard, I want ta feel the pulse of life and throw myself into it and ride the waves. I wanna know what makes beautiful people tick. It's... am I makin' sense? Sorry, I'm like, drunk rambling, honey."
"I hope so, Slix, I really do." The small makari nods, hugging the egalrin back, only to go cross eyed from the poking. Eztli listens, and nods along. "I'm sure if you like them, they're all great." They smile back. "No, I get it, Slix. You've got a big heart and a lot of love to share and receive. It's, just not for me. Might be selfish, but I just wouldn't feel right."
"Think they'll let us take that pitcher to the baths?" Eztli wonders while the servers are off elsewere.
Slixvah gives the small makari a squeeze. "Oh Ez, I'm so glad ya trust my judgement," she croons warmly, swaying some with the makari in arm. "They're all such sweethearts. One plays such /beautiful/ music. Another, so considerate, so kind, resourceful. The other, tall, passionate, strong, graceful. Gosh. There's a couple other lovely souls I've got my eye on, but-" she drunkly giggles, holding a finger to her beak. "We'll see how that pans out~"
Despite her inebriation, she shakes her head briskly after Eztli's insight. "No, it ain't selfish. Don' eva feel like ya are. Ya heart is wholly ya's ta do with you think is best wit' it. Ya a... beautiful, wonderful soul, and I'm so frickin' happy ta call you my friend," she happily informs, pulling Eztli in a warm, fluffy hug as she dotes on her. "Ya gonna make a gal really happy some day. And gods, that's so beautiful..."
She releases her hold, blinking. "... yes..." she whispers with a growing grin. Slix cracks her knuckles, pulling the hood of her robe over her head. The brown fabric elongates, obfuscating feathers and wings as her form seemingly shifts and changes. Something heavy flops into their laps. And then she pulls the hood down.
A red scaled makari with a splash of white running down her face and chest grins back at Eztli with razor sharp teeth. All the ribbons tied off to the tail in her lap. "We do a lil' drinking and swimmin'~" she snickers in a growling tone.
"They all sound like wonderful people. Hope I get to meet them some time! Unless I already have." The small makari chuckles. "And even more? Oh, you'll have to tell me all about them, Slix."
Eztli nods, and happily curls up in the warm hug. "You know, part of me is sad I could never have you to myself, but I wouldn't want you to change." She admits. "But having a great friend like you? Doesn't even feel like settling at that point."
Only for another moment to pass, and the sorceress squints at the now lizardy Slixvah, before she grins back. "Sounds like a good plan to me! Need to get these robes laundered after being in the swamps, anyways."
Makari Slix chuffs and thumps their tail. "You've met at least one of them, that much I kno'." A scent wafts, embarrassment. "Ahh... we'll chat about that in the baths..." she giggles. Which sounds really strange as a makari, like a chittering growl.
A long sigh escapes her, a little smile cresting her maw. "Little sad too, because I'd love ta get ta know ya better." She winks. "But alas such is life-- I'll take a grand friend anytime!" Slix beams. Seems like she had similar conversations like this before, with what ease she goes through the conversation. So, she just caps that clacking her horns against Eztli's.
She gathers the ale, cup and pitcher. "Yes yes, go go! Hurry before the severs come back and get onto me next shift!"
