It is now Farland's turn! Fidget is next!
The darkening sky of the mountains is illuminated by the cold-burning blue flame as the bugbears turn and address Thoth. Not with words, but rather, with the weapons they pull. Wicked looking morning stars and maces and clubs, it would appear, are the order of the day, and they begin to menacingly advance on the elaborately constructed golem. They're not totally with it still, it seems, their eyes reflecting blue fire.
In the meantime, Farland utters a single word: "Shit."
He ducks back, uttering a spell of prrotection for himself.
It is now Fidget's turn! Reithak is next! GAME: Fidget rolls knowledge/nature: (19)+9: 28 <OOC> Fidget says, "If we're all close together, then I'll use Bonded Object to cast Haste on the group." <OOC> Fidget says, "Then I'll move away 60ft."
It is now Reithak's turn! Victor is next! <OOC> Reithak would like to attack the nearest enemy <OOC> Whirlpool says, "Roll to hit!"
"Oh, shit! Thoth, the trick to getting them to listen was the Mind Control spell! Not my charming personality." She rapidly weaves her arms, drawing symbols in the air which glow faintly, before with a muttered word and a waving gesture, a wave of energizing azure magic washes over her allies, filling them with a sense of excitement.

"Well, guess they aren't happy about their flame being gone! Everyone, get ready!" The large egalrin shouts to the others, drawing their rapier and dashing to the nearest bugbear, lunging and landing a solid blow on them. "Make sure everyone is safe, and that flame doesn't start back up!"
It is now Victor's turn! Thoth is next! <OOC> Reithak thumbs up! <OOC> Victor will move up and attack the same one Reithak did if possible, using Slam with Power Attack GAME: Victor rolls melee+1-2: (18)+7+1+-2: 24 <OOC> Whirlpool says, "Hit, Victor!" GAME: Victor rolls 1d6+6+3: (2)+6+3: 11 <OOC> Whirlpool says, "It's now very badly wounded."
It is now Thoth's turn! Bugbears is next! <OOC> Thoth says, "5-foot step away from any bugbears who may be too close to my face..." <OOC> Thoth says, "And then Burning Hands, focused on the very badly wounded one, and any of its allies." GAME: Thoth casts Burning Hands. Caster Level: 4 DC: 17 GAME: Thoth rolls 4d4: (7): 7
Victor has been known to cast a spell or two. But he's currently covered head to toe in plate armor, in addition to and literally on top of his already warlike design. Now that the fighting has started he moves to engage the monstrous creatures and hopefully draw their attention away from the more dedicated spellcasters. But there are just as many enemies as their are members of the party. Utilizing a tactic he's learned of focusing on one enemy at a time, Victor steps close to the same Bugbear and slams it with one armored forearm.

"This one believes it may have done something in error." Thoth remarks as the Bugbears turn towards him and pull up their weapons. It jostles back a bit with a click-clacking of its taloned feet. At Fidget's explaination, Thoth adds; "What does excrement have to do with this?"
It stumbles back; "This one does not believe the blue flame to be gone. But this one shall provide a different flame." Followed by moving its hands forwards and opening its fingers up into two 'forked' shapes. Fingertips opening, followed by flames roiling and bursting out from them, while Ra begins her approach back to the group.
Within moments, the wounded one goes down, burnt alive, as Thoth indicates; "This one recommends the Bugbears depart this place. Further violence will only cost you your lives."
It is now Bugbears' turn! Farland is next! It is now Farland's turn! Fidget is next! <OOC> Whirlpool says, "Farland decides to utter more swear words and cast a protective spell."
It is now Fidget's turn! Reithak is next! <OOC> Fidget takes a 5ft step back to get out of AOO range, and then Scorching Ray's the bugbear in the face.
<OOC> Fidget says, "Yep, I should have full HP for now."
GAME: Fidget casts Scorching Ray. Caster Level: 6 DC: 17

<OOC> Whirlpool says, "Roll it!"
<OOC> Whirlpool says, "Oh you did"
<OOC> Whirlpool says, "Dang screen froze,."
<OOC> Whirlpool says, "That definitely scorches it near to death!"
<OOC> Fidget says, "Nice! Also, if you could toss me a full heal before a bugbear sneezes on me and I explode :D"
<OOC> Fidget says, "Thanks :)"
Farland swears. In gnomish. Loudly. He ducks back behind Thoth, who seems particularly magically armored up today!
The bug bears advance. They don't look totally 'with it'. The hostility and aggressiveness? That's deiofnitely their own, but there's definitely more to it than that. One rushes out towards Fidget with a menacing growl and then pitches face first into the earth when they're nearly on him, their foot catching on an exposed bit of rock. One's gotten in Thoth's face, but their mace isn't doing much to what is, effectively, a giant metal bird person.
It's almost comical to observe.
Only Reithak is actually wounded by the forceful impact of a mace against him.
It is now Reithak's turn! Victor is next! <OOC> Reithak says, "I'll find a foe to full attack, that should help" <OOC> Whirlpool says, "Roll to hit!" GAME: Reithak rolls 1d20+4+3+2-2: (5)+4+3+2+-2: 12 GAME: Reithak rolls 1d20+4+3+2-2: (17)+4+3+2+-2: 24 GAME: Reithak rolls 1d20+4+3+2-2: (4)+4+3+2+-2: 11 <OOC> Whirlpool says, "Miss, hit, miss." It is now Victor's turn! Thoth is next! <OOC> Victor will attack again, same Bugbear as Reithak is attacking <OOC> Victor says, "Actually, I have a way to simulate a poor man's two-weapon fighting and will try that! (basically using Cestus as Primary attack and also using Slam with other hand)" GAME: Victor rolls 10: (3)+10: 13 GAME: Victor rolls 10: (3)+10: 13 GAME: Victor rolls 4: (14)+4: 18 <OOC> Whirlpool says, "One hit, yeah, you got it :)"

"Get whatever curses you got outta your system, this isn't so bad. Not good for morale! That haste magic though, thanks for that!" The large egalrin laughs, cut short by a rather painful smack from a mace. They take another flurry of swings at one of the bugbears, missing with a backhand and a followup thrust of their rapier, only one slice of their blade managing more than a glancing blow.
GAME: NEW ROUND! It is now Farland's turn! Fidget is next!
"Yeah, yeah," echoes Farland, his magical protections springing to life around him. The remaining Bugbears aren't really attacking in any organized way. They're just ... charging at the adventurers, trying to strike them, and encountering great difficultry. They don't even seem to care when their numbers are thinned.
At all.
At least the troll isn't here, there is that.
Farland grimaces, then says, "No choice now..."
It is now Fidget's turn! Reithak is next! <OOC> Fidget says, "Did it close with me to attack? If so, 5ft step away again." <OOC> Fidget says, "Then...burning hands!" GAME: Fidget casts Burning Hands. Caster Level: 6 DC: 16 <OOC> Whirlpool says, "That'll kill it." <OOC> Fidget will sense motive on the bugbears, just in case she learns something useful. GAME: Fidget rolls sense motive: (11)+1: 12
Ducking under the bugbear's swing while chanting magical words, Fidget grins and opens one palm towards the lumbering monster, a point of bright light in her palm erupting into a shower of flames that engulf the creature and send it roaring back, stumbling, and crumpling to the rocky floor, dead. The goblin cackles, and locks eyes onto her next target amongst the attackers. "I doubt they're going to retreat, bugbears aren't that smart. Just roast them!"
It is now Reithak's turn! Victor is next! <OOC> Reithak will smack a bugbear <OOC> Reithak says, "and remember to judgement for extra chance to hit" GAME: Reithak rolls 1d20+4+3+2-2+1: (3)+4+3+2+-2+1: 11 GAME: Reithak rolls 1d20+4+3+2-2+1: (20)+4+3+2+-2+1: 28 GAME: Reithak rolls 1d20+4+3+2-2+1: (7)+4+3+2+-2+1: 15 <OOC> Reithak says, "cestus for the last hit" GAME: Reithak rolls 1d20+4+3+2-2+1: (17)+4+3+2+-2+1: 25 <OOC> Whirlpool says, "Miss, threat, miss, hit. :)" GAME: Reithak rolls 1d8+2+3: (2)+2+3: 7 GAME: Reithak rolls 1d4+1: (1)+1: 2 <OOC> Whirlpool says, "Dead!"
It is now Victor's turn! Thoth is next!
"Hey, if you're still paying attention, and you don't _want_ to fight us, back off now!" Reithak shouts, taking another swing at the bugbear and going wide, though she catches her foe with the follow up, slashing deep through their chest and sending them crumpling to the floor. "No choice, yeah. Just keep it up!"
<OOC> Victor will try his 'flurry' again GAME: Victor rolls 10: (5)+10: 15 GAME: Victor rolls 10: (13)+10: 23 GAME: Victor rolls 4: (12)+4: 16 <OOC> Whirlpool says, "Only the 23 hits." GAME: Victor rolls 1d4+4: (2)+4: 6
It is now Thoth's turn! Bugbears is next! GAME: Thoth casts Magic Missile. Caster Level: 4 DC: 17 GAME: Thoth rolls 2d4+2: (6)+2: 8 <OOC> Whirlpool says, "One would be enough to finish off one of these." <OOC> Whirlpool says, "Would you prefer to divide the missiles between them?" <OOC> Thoth says, "Ye" <OOC> Whirlpool says, "ROll damage for the second missile independently then" GAME: Thoth rolls 1d4+1: (1)+1: 2 <OOC> Whirlpool says, "Almost." Thoth shifts and adjusts its body. Its broken wings move with each adjustment, but it is using its hands to adjust the mace coming for it. Touching it with the back of its hand and deflecting the blows. Aided by the divine protection afforded to him by Farland, as well as its arcane abilities. "Do not fear, Other - Farland. Thine magic is keeping us safe."
It then pauses for a moment, motioning their hand back towards them. "Stand up. If thine will is to returneth Animus to its rightful place, then thine actions must reflect thine faith!" Its wings shift, and there's a few empty tubes from which it tries to fire scorching rays after incanting, but it ends up getting stuck in a broken piece of its wings and creates a small firey detonation that causes some of the metalic feathers to drop off onto the ground.
Only for another 'flumph' of sound to escape another broken wing, sending two magic missiles right at its foes - ripping through the eye socket of one of the Bugbears and felling it, while the other one just kind of 'poofs' with an arcane explosion against their chest.
"No choice of what?" Thoth inquires with Farland, in confusion.
Victor shifts his feet, stirring up a bit of slush, and then lets fly off a series of blow with either hand. Only one blow batters into the Bugbear. "I believe," he grunts between blows. "We are getting the betterof them."
"To fight, unfortunately," is what Farland says to Thoth. It's clearly not what he wanted, even as the bugbears are being dispatched. The last remaining one turns its attention back to Reithak and swings at him, but misses. Farland opens fire with a magical missile himself which terminates it altogether.
Het lets out a sigh, shaking his head. "Pointless loss of life, but they didn't really give us a choice, like I said. They would've likely been hostile anyway, though." He glances towards the others, then nudges one of the fallen with his shoe tip.
GAME: Whirlpool removes the timestop.
"This one believes this was inevitable." Thoth remarks, before turning to Farland. "Now, this Other will send for more Holy water, so this item can be 'not evil', and recovered?" It inquires with the Cleric. After all, Farland seems all worried that this flame contains a lot of evil. "This one is not of a divine nature. So this is the only suggestion this one can offer." It fears.
"They are bugbears, I'm not sure it's a great loss." Fidget says with much less sympathy. "Now, I can try to dispel some of the magic here to weaken its effect. We'll see if it's still evil after that. And then go get some Holy Water." She starts casting her spell...
GAME: Fidget casts Fox's Cunning. Caster Level: 6 DC: 17 GAME: Fidget casts Dispel Magic. Caster Level: 6 DC: 18 GAME: Fidget rolls 6+7: (15)+6+7: 28
"Hey, good job, all of you!" The large egalrin cheers as the last foe falls. "Just, sorry, not trying to make light of everything here, but I'm glad we're all in one piece. They were evil, but I still feel bad about taking them out."
"Now, let's see about what we actually need to do here now that it's safer to take a look at, right? I'll keep an eye on making sure the thing is or isn't well, evil?"
"It's fine," remarks Farland, shaking his head with a bit of sadness. He doesn't love this, but he does back away with a nod to Fidget.
"be careful. Magic can be a bit weird when we're near something like this."
But it seems that Fidget actually DID manage to be careful, or at least lucky, and the flame seems to dim and then wink out entirely for the moment.
For the moment. It might reignite later. Probably will, in fact. All of you feel less .. strained resisting it's call. Like a load you didn't even necessarily recognize you were carrying is now absent.
Victor's visor slides up, and a faceplate retracts to reveal his face. "It was necessary," he agrees. And then he moves towards the blue flame, to get a better view of the proceedings.
As the flame fades, Thoth lays its hands to its back and remarks; "Looks like it has been calmed. Perhaps now would be a good time to retrieve what we presume to be magicite?" It asks of Fidget and Farland, tilting its head in a questioning manner.
"That's what I'm thinking. If we're careful, we may be able to dig it out," remarks Farland. He rubs his face.
"Okay, I think that'll come back, but it's bought us some time to find a more permanent solution. And figure out why it was evil. Now, does anyone have a map to make sure there's not a helpless village around 6 hours in that direction that's about to have a troll problem?" Fidget says, nonchalantly. "There might not be Magicite, but it's worth checking. Would be a nice find if so. I wonder if there's such a thing as evil magicite!" That last thing excites her more than it probably should.
GAME: Fidget rolls knowledge/local: (7)+9: 16 <OOC> Fidget says, "^ Fidget tried to direct the troll to an unoccupied area." <OOC> Whirlpool says, "You guys are largely far enough away from civilization you wonm't likely have to worry ...much..."
Reithak blinks, and stretches a bit. "Ah, that's much better! Didn't realize how much that thing was dragging on my mind, but I'm glad to have at least a bit of a break, for now. And now we've got some time to get to the bottom of this!" The egalrin hums. "Now, I don't know if there is magicite here, pretty sure not, but it's worth knowing for certain. If it is a leyline problem, then, I'm not sure but we can hopefully figure something out. At least since there's an obvious problem here, it's a good chance to see what might work to get it flowing properly, right?"
<OOC> Thoth says, "How difficult would it be to unearth it?" <OOC> Whirlpool says, "Hard to say." <OOC> Whirlpool says, "It depends on how deep it is, amongst other things. Mining magicite is inherently hazardous too." <OOC> Whirlpool says, "I will say Fidget is aware of many mining communities in the mountains, and help could probably be found there." <OOC> Victor says, "Could we try leaving some of us to try and guard the site while waiting for others to return" <OOC> Victor would volunteer to stay if so <OOC> Thoth says, "WAIT!" <OOC> Thoth says, "Thoth will stay here for a long rest, prepare multiple castings of Expeditious Excavation, and excavate it!"
