Eavesdropping
SUMMARY: Rona and Morgan plan how best to use the mage's magic to spy on the Charneth agents.
Morgan has arrived.
Morgan comes walking from the road from the north this time with a house cat sized red dragon on her shoulders "this is my budy Whisper, he is a familiar of a wizard that thinks he is just a servant." she lovingly rubing a finger on his neck and he leans in it like a cat or dog does.
Yelrona strokes Whisper's neck affectionately.
Morgan joins Rona and says "I did not want to tell her that he might be as smart as she is."
"I am not sure how we even measure such things, honestly," Rona says after a while. "How would we even tell?"
Whisper tells Rona his way "I speak six languages, and I..." he goes with all the skills he knows. But Morgan says "well he knows how to do many things."
Yelrona nods. "Well, that's certainly compelling."
Morgan scratches a spot on his back "Well there is something I need from you Rona. I need to be able to study a part of the whrhouse for my spell to work."
Yelrona seems confused for a moment. "The warehouse? Which -- oh, I understand." She nods. "OK, that makes sense. So what do you need?"
Morgan says as whisper takes a nap "I just need to be able to see a spot so I know it well enough. And from there I can expand my view over time."
"Can it be a spot on the exterior?"
Morgan nods "But I doubt I will ever get inside, and I doubt they keep the doors or windows open for very long."
Yelrona nods, following along. "I suspect you're right. So... what can I do for you?"
Morgan says "help me come up with a plan where I can just look at the inside for at least three minutes."
Yelrona nods again. "Ah, OK. So it has to be an interior spot, then."
She thinks a bit. "Can you familiarize yourself with a location _through_ clairvoyance? Like... if you cast the spell on the outside of a window, then use the spell to look through the window, can you then cast the spell on a spot on the inside of the building?"
GAME: Yelrona rolls spellcraft: (11)+9: 20
Morgan sighs and palms her forhead as she just relised she has a way of doing it "When you said familiarize, it made me remember I can for a bit turn in to a small or medium animal, no one cares about a rat or bird.
Yelrona nods. "That sounds pretty good."
Morgan follows up with "But when I do this can you and some one else be near by to cause a distraction if I need one?"
Yelrona nods. "Sure, that's easy enough."
Morgan says, "and do you know if they have any magic users?"
"Not that I've noticed so far," Rona reports. "But it seems likely... if not working with them directly, then probably hired as they need them."
Morgan nods "Well if they have any at my power or better they will sence any type of scrying done and can stop it. And if they are like Sandy they will know where the one doing the scrying is. So when I do it I will be in the woods."
Yelrona nods. "Sensible. We'll have to coordinate this... right now, they don't know they've been spotted, they don't even know we know they _exist_. But the minute they sense you scrying, if they do, they'll know. We'll have to be prepared to move fast, if that happens."
Morgan nods "Well detect scrying is a fourth circle of spells, I am close to knowing that spell my self."
"Well. Hopefully they don't have a mage of _that_ caliber working for them. And they _probably_ aren't taking active countermeasures, if they don't expect surveillance." Rona nods. "Good. Sounds like a plan."
Morgan nods "Well my mentor Astren told me what you do is cast the spell on you and for a whole day you can sense some one with in 40 feet of you scrying or other spells of the same near you. And if you are lucky they are not able to sense you."
Aya has arrived.
"Ah. Yes, that sounds like a worthwhile countermeasure to use on general principles. Well," she decides. "Either they can cast it, or they can't. We just need to be prepared to move quickly if they do."
Morgan nods "Well to be safe I will change my clothing and cover my face and hair. And do you have any caltorps?"
"That can't hurt, I suppose," Rona agrees. "And, no... but they are not expensive. What do you want caltrops for?"
Morgan says as she keeps petting the sleeping Psudodragon "just incase I have to run and I cant fly away."
Aya has left.
"Ah," says Rona, nodding. "I understand."
Morgan asks "do you have any other idea?"
Yelrona considers. "If things come to blows, it's probably best if we're together, so we can back each other up."
Morgan nods "Well the good thing is I wont be in a trance."
Yelrona smiles. "That will definitely be helpful."
Morgan makes a motion to order a drink "So after I get a view of the lay out, do you want me to see or hear whats going on."
Yelrona hrms. "That... is a VERY good question. How does this work... when do you make that choice?"
Morgan says "Well at the end of the verbal part I say one of two words. Nymure to hear and ocuir to see, I cant do both at the same time."
Yelrona nods. "I'm honestly not sure. If I have to guess, I'd say we're more likely to overhear something useful than see it, but it's hard to be sure."
Morgan nods "only problem is I can only keep it up for 6 minutes."
Yelrona frowns. "Ah. Well. That is more of a limitation." She thinks about it. "I suppose what I would recommend is familiarizing yourself with a spot inside the building, by spying through a window as a bird or a rat or something. Then wait until the Charneth agents return to the building, and use the spell to listen in on them. If they detect the scrying, hopefully they'll give that away somehow, and we'll know we've been made... at which point we can just attack. If they don't, hopefully they'll give something away that will help us identify their handlers."
Morgan nods "And over time I can get us a lay out of the buildings inside and any obvous traps."
Yelrona nods. "Yes, that too. Thank you, Morgan -- this is extremely helpful!"
Morgan says, "I wish I could share what I will see or hear with you as I see it.""
"That would be convenient," Rona agrees. "But you'll just have to take notes. Be sure to prepare yourself to do so."
Morgan nods as she takes that in "but mind you this will take a few days as I will only be able to cast it four times a day."
Yelrona nods. "Right. I assumed that... and we might have to move sooner than that, but anything you can find out will help."
Morgan nods "I will tell you when I am ready."
"Excellent," Rona agrees, approvingly. "I'll try to coordinate as best I can."
