Hospital Hospitality
A cold and darkening day sees the streets relatively quiet, as people hurry along rather than dawdle in the cold. The hospital is quiet, with few who are injured, though some here have one of the seasonal illnesses. Out front, with a heavy cloak to blunt the cold wind's power, a person in heavy armor. A sunburst is emblazoned on her tabard and cloak as well, indicating her belonging to the Temple of Daeus.
A tall warrior wearing fur-lined faintly glowing banded mail, with a huge ornately hilted greatsword sheathed in a scabbard strapped to his back with a fur lined hooded overcloak, comes walking up to the hospital. A very cute, but waif-thin six year oldish half-Sylvanosti young girl, holds one of the man's hands at his right side. On his left, pads a surprisingly docile and almost housecattish huge reddish-purple furred dire panther that ocassionally moves to nuzzle the girl with her soft head. Darius stops in front of the paladin and says, "I would like to bring my adopted daughter in to see a healer, she has been an orphan until I adopted her and I want to make sure that there is nothing wrong with her. May we pass?" He says this respectfully as he takes in the woman.
The woman watches them approach, though casually enough to still take in the rest of the street, eyes always on the lookout for trouble. She smiles as the two step close enough for quiet conversation. "I think you might have to leave the feline outside, sir. It is rather large and the house mother may be plenty annoyed about having such a critter inside. You may be able to get away with having it in the outer rooms, you can always ask. Aside from that, I would not bar you from the place. I'm only here to prevent trouble from getting in." She smiles down at the wee girl. "You'll keep your da here from causing trouble, right?", she says in a faux serious voice, but her smiile remains bright and cheerful.
GAME: Deak refreshes spells.
The girl pipes up with a big smile, "Daddy's a HERO! He r'scu'd me l'k a princ'ss in one 'f those fairyt'les! He won't cause troubl'! Honest!" She's so earnest about it too, it's pretty endearing actually and Darius tries to cover his embarrassment by turning his head and coughing while laughing a bit. Aww, is the big bad mercenary warrior blushing? Yes he is! Darius then clears his throat and says to his pet, "Fluffy, stay here, perhaps the nice paladin might be willing to give you a treat or play with you a bit?" Fluffy, the dire panther perks up at that and then moves over to Elpida and gives her the cutest kitty eyes imaginable, even flopping on her back and batting her paws in the air, trying to be as cute as possible for her. Darius sighs and then mutters, "My life has become surreal lately... first I get a dire panther for a pet, then an adopted daughter... what's next?" He then nods to Elpida and says to Aika, "Ok Aika, let's go!" Aika skips ahead and says, "Ok!"
Keeping a tranquil watch on the comings and goings in the hosiptal's foyer, the Hearthguard Deak stands beside the fountain statue-like holding his bill. A teen-aged human male dressed in the finery of the nobility walks briskly toward the main front door, an embarrassed blush coloring his face.
Elpida smiles at the child's earnestness, and nods to Darius. "Life is funny sometimes, isn't it?" At the cat's play, the woman lets out a light sigh. "Of course they would know I am allergic, somehow." The feline does get a little bit of attention, however, though the woman maintains her watch.
Darius then says, "Oh? In that case... Fluffy, leave her alone, just... stay out of the way of people so that you don't scare them off..." Fluffy stops and her tail droops as she pads off, looking back at Elpida sadly. Darius and Aika then walks into the hospital's main lobby, looking for a healer and says to a nurse, "Excuse me? I would like to have a healer look at my adopted daughter, I want to make sure she's healthy."
The nurse looks at Aika, smiles at Darius, and says, "How noble of you, sir. Hearthguard Ragni is available," pointing to Deak, "or I can check whether one of the lady hearthguards is available, if the young lady prefers."
Deak nods to Darius, and reverently approaches.
The Sunblade at the door to the hospital steps forward to challenge the young noble. "Chilly night out, isn't it, young sir?", she asks with a pleasant smile on her face.
Aika looks at Deak and then at Darius and clings to him for a moment, hiding her face behind his cloak bashfully, Darius glances back and says, "It'll be ok my little princess... I'll be there to make sure nothing bad happens to you... besides, I know Hearthguard Ragni, we've adventured before and he's a very good healer and cleric and has taken care of my wounds many a time on the battlefield, you can trust him." Darius then looks to Deak and nods back, "Lead the way, my friend." as Aika pops out from behind Darius's cloak to wave a bit dubiously at the man, it seems she's a little scared of being in the hospital with all the sick people and the smells and things.
Outside, Fluffy sees the young noble and pads over and sniffs the man and then sneezes, backing away, rubbing her nose with her paws. It seems the combined smell of too much perfume and cheap wine and cheaper virtue women is too much for the dire panther and she growls disgustedly at the teenaged noble.
The young nobleman grins nervously at Elpida, but simply heads along his way trying desperately to avoid being seen by anybody who might recognize him. When Fluffy checks him out, the nervousness turns to outright fear, followed by a loud sigh of relief when the violet cat turns away.
"Excuse me.", the woman says, a bit more command in her voice. "Visiting hours are over. Are you here to see a doctor, then?" The woman's hand drops slowly to the handle of the blade on her hip.
Deak says, "Hello, sweet one. I think there may be a lollipop in my office for brave patients." He conducts the pair into a cozy exam room, and proceeds to run routine checks on Aika, with excellent bedside manner.
Morgan has arrived.
Aika is initially shy with Deak, but as soon as he mentions lolipops she loses THAT pretty quick, she answers all of Deak's questions in a cheerful voice and save for understandable bit of malnutrition is as healthy as a girl her age in her former circumstances could be. Darius seems much relieved when Deak helps as much as he can and gives him advice on how to get her up to 'fighting weight' as it were. He says to Aika, "So now Aika, like Hearthguard Ragni says, you need to eat your vegetables if you ever want to grow up to be a hero like me someday... especially if you want ME to train you." He smiles at her grumpy face and then admonishes her, "That means... no more scraping the stuff you don't like off of your plate so that Fluffy can eat it, I'll start spanking you if you do." Aika gapes at Darius and then slowly nods and says quietly, "Ok Daddy..." Darius smiles and patpats her on the head, "Good girl, I'll make a hero out of you yet!"
Outside Fluffy follows the man with cold eyes as he tries to escape and seems to be saying in cat thoughts . o O (What a pervert!) and sneezes again, getting cat snot all over the man as he tries to make his escape.
Darius waves
Deak concludes the check-up and delivers the lollipop. He says, "So, Darius, when you find a house, let me know and I'll come bless your hearth."
Elpida is totally not smiling at the cat and noble, and certainly does not let out a chuckle. Not that they can hear, anyways. As the noble fades into the night, the woman continues her watch.
Morgan comes walking in with a small shiver from the out side weather, but she presses on to thefirst healer in here handing a very nice haversack "This is from the temple of Eluina like requested." said with a smile.
Darius chuckles and says, "I've got a line on one right now, just need to complete a couple more jobs for the Guild and I should be able to make an offer." Aika pipes up, loud enough so that anyone in the vicinity can hear, "Can you find Daddy a Mommy for me too?,", she asks Deak with wide eyes.
Deak laughs kindly, and says, "Tell you what, Aika, you might need to let him have some time every so often to look for one himself. Maybe you can come play with the kids at the orphanage one or two nights a week while he does. Then I'd me more than happy to officiate at the wedding. How does that sound? By the way, did you know I grew up in an orphanage? We always used to like chances to play with other kids."
Morgan hears the little one say that and deep down in side she feels deeply sad for the little one. Though she fights the urge to hug Aika she walks to Fluffy to pet. She listens to Deak talk about being a orphan "I was addopted also."
Elpida steps inside then, passing her replacement with a nod. The woman warms herself inside for a time, before stepping back out onto the street, heading off into the night.
