Log: Broken Blade: Fragment Recovery
You have all been gathered together to help Kyson find at the parts of his broken blade. Cesran using a powerful magical spell was able to locate the parts of the blade. It's in a small swampy marshy region that is surrounded by high rocky hills. Cersan has teleported everyone the closest that he could get the entire party which is on the eastern side of the swamp that butts up against one of the hills. It's rather humid as the trees with their broad leaves and branches keep the heat in. It smells of rot and death. Cesran has to leave, but will be back in one day, he has business in Rune that must be attended to. He gives a warning that the blade fragments is likely guarded.
<OOC> Cesran says, "Everyone roll perception checks"
GAME: Korra rolls Perception: (2)+4: 6
GAME: Kyson rolls perception: (14)+3: 17
GAME: Godwyn rolls Perception: (4)+8: 12
GAME: Mel rolls perception: (17)+11: 28
GAME: Kira rolls perception: (19)+9: 28
Korra shudders queasily, bracing herself against a slender tree. "Gods above," she moans, shaking as she turns an odd shade of green. "Give me the steppes and the sea and the horse hooves, for all the days I travel!" Swearing a few other choice oaths, she bends slightly at her waist, taking a moment to control her heaving insides.
You paged (Kira, Mel, Kyson) with 'You all see what looks to be an unnatural hole in the hill about 5' in diameter'
You paged (Kira, Mel, Kyson) with 'The hole is about 20' from your current position and about 3 feet off the ground'
You paged (Mel, Kira) with 'You two see that in front of the hole is a carefully concealed pit trap.'
Mel seems to be handling the weather well enough. He's sweating heavily, but it doesn't seem to bother him. Looking forward, he asks, "Is that hole the place we're going? The one with the pit in front of it?" He sets his cloak to keep the sun off as much as he can and takes a drink from his waterskin. "I can probably jam it shut, if you want me to give it a try?"
Kyson is somewhat used to teleporting between Alexandros and Rune but that's through an established Portal with gates on both end; a fairly 'stable' transference of energy. His master's own spell, since there is no anchor at the opposite end, grabs his stomach and bounces it off the ground upon arrival. A faint, if queasy breath escape his lips as he looks down to the ground to get his bearings before leaning back to stretch out any kinks. Out of the corner of his eye he spies the oddly shaped cave up ahead and raises an eyebrow in question. "I'm not sure," he begins, "Master said that he saw the fragment in a cave but...who knows which one it could be."
Kira is used to travel. On foot, or possibly in a wagon. This is... very different. Still, it's not enough to dissuade her from helping those in need. It is her Oath, after all. It doesn't hurt that she had no idea what she would experience until after they were teleported. She reels, wobbles, and isn't sure whether to clutch her stomach or her head. "That was ... an experience." Kira doesn't want to insult the one who saved them many days of travel.
After recovering, she looks around and notices the hole, also... as well as the suspicious signs of a pit in front of it. "Be careful! Someone could fall in and be hurt."
<OOC> Kyson says, "The whole we're seeing is a cave, yes? In the side of the hill? Or a hole?"
<OOC> Cesran says, "It's hard to tell after the first 10' feet, but it looks like a tunnel"
Godwyn is here... yet she is here on an advisory basis. Her armor and weapons are present, in the event that things go catastrophically wrong. To be honest, they shouldn't.
But one can never be too careful.
The Sentinel takes a brief glance at Kira... and smiles. She says nothing for a few moments as she approaches the group from behind, acting as their rear guard. Godwyn places her hand on Kira's right shoulder to steady her. "It's always a rough landing," she intones.
"I should still prefer Breeze," Korra states plainly, getting her gullet under control with a few swallows. A few heavy swallows. "Horses do *not* leave the world trying to change colors and turn sideways!" Shield prepared on her arm, she gazes at the cavern entrance hesitantly, stepping forward with a mushy, muddy sound under her boots. "This must lead into the hill," she says, kneeling down just at the entry. She narrows her eyes, gazing out into the darkness. "Should we prepare a torch first, or trust to a magical orb for lighting?" Korra stays to one side of the concealed pit, watchful of the sickly vines and other greenery hiding the bottom of the entrapment.
Kyson slowly approaches the 'tunnel' and yet still keeps his distance, attempting to see down its length without having to actually crawl inside it just yet. The young woman's question is logical. "I have a sunrod - or I could use my staff," he offers. "What does everyone else have?"
Mel nods towards Korra and pulls a flaming brand from his pack. Since his pack is not on fire, it is likely an everburning torch, with the fire being illusory. But it makes light. "We can do both," he replies to her, setting it aside so he can fiddle with the trap.
<OOC> Cesran says, "Roll me a disable device."
GAME: Mel rolls disable device: (14)+13: 27
You paged Mel with 'You easily are able to jam the mechanism so that it won't fall when weight is put on it. Do you have craft trapmaking? Or craft trap?'
Mel pages: I do not.
You paged Mel with 'Okay feel free to pose what you did.'
Mel takes out a small hammer and some nails and pounds them in so that the trap cannot swing open. "Just don't jump up and down on it," he recommends. "But it should take our weight."
<OOC> Cesran says, "OKay so going in? Can I have the order you are going in as? It's gonna be dark."
Kira lifts a hand and starts to warn the two approaching, but relaxes when they are aware and avoid it. She then turns to the armored one behind her. "Thank you..." her eyes lower to the tabard and her smile grows, "..Sister. I will be fine, and I'm happy to know The Healer's Grace watches over us." She doesn't want to leave the others ahead, and so moves up to join them. Carefully, without interrupting their work on the pit. "Thank you for closing it," she turns her smile to the one with hammer and nails.
<OOC> Godwyn says, "I'm taking the rear. My weapon is casting Light once we get in."
<OOC> Kira says, "Can go first, since there'll be light. I only have Eyeballs Mk. I"
Korra reaches down to the ground, raising her gloved hand demonstrably. "I have a rock," she explains, eyes twinkling. "There are many like it, but this one is mine. Combined with an enchantment to glow in the dark, I can toss them ahead in an endless stream. Fear this, the shining pebble!"
Godwyn pats Kira's right shoulder and walks with her for a moment. "In the event that something in here doesn't agree with me..." Her voice lowers a touch. "I trust you to get everyone to safety. We can't be sure who all is guarding this thing."
<OOC> Kyson says, "Ok, so who's going in first?"
<OOC> Korra says, "I will lead the way, if none else wish to."
<OOC> Mel says, "I can go first, if everyone wants?"
<OOC> Korra will follow behind then.
Kyson will follow in behind Korra and Mel.
<OOC> Kyson says, "and that should have been ooc."
Mel finishes nailing the trap shut, and torch in hand, proceeds in.
<OOC> Cesran says, "So Mel, Korra, Kyson, Kira and Godwyn?"
<OOC> Godwyn says, "Yeah."
<OOC> Korra says, "Sounds good."
<OOC> Kyson says, "works. :)"
<OOC> Kyson repeats the ancient formula, "Mage in the middle."
<OOC> Cesran says, "All right, FF, new set incoming."
<OOC> Korra sounds the sacred chimes.
<OOC> Godwyn says, "Actually that order fits with my pose XD"
"I will look after them, Sister," Kira assures Godwyn. "Whatever is in here, this could be its home. The sword doesn't belong to it, so I'm sure we can explain everything and maintain peace and manners."
Kyson follows in behind Mel and Korra, waiting until he's inside the tunnel before he casts a simple light cantrip upon the quartz crystal he has at the top of his staff. Though not a -true- wizard's staff, it allows him the ability to 'risk a little more light' in this long dark of mor...er, tunnel. "We can do this," he mutters to himself as much as anyone around him.
Korra smiles quietly, shaking her head. Wizards, so... dainty. In quarters too close for bow, she moves with shield and curved blade just behind Mel. She leaves the professional to his work; her own is to cover his back from potential dangers, dark eyes quick as they leap along the tunnel's walls, its dark depths beyond the reach of sight.
Mel looks back and nods to Korra, reassured with her huge form close behind him in case something happens. 'Something' happens far, far too often for his liking. He moves along fairly quietly, his footsteps light as he proceeds deeper in, using the light from his Everburning Torch to see by, for as far as he can see with it.
The tunnel is dark and as soon as you get 15 feet away from the tunnel's mouth it starts to decline and turn towards the right. If not for the light sources you'd be in pitch blackness. The tunnel is cramped, about 5 feet give or take a couple of inches here or there. It's been carved and smoothed. You all feel like you are curving downwards for maybe a hundred feet. You can still smell the swamp and the top of the tunnel is damp to the touch. The occasional root will hang down. The tunnel does start to open up after a hundred feet into a cavern that's about 15 feet high and 30 feet across and 40 feet long.
This cavern has been carved to look like a temple, the walls have pillars carved into them and the floor has been carved to look like tiles. The smell of incense is in the air and just out of the light is a statue at the far end of the cavern. The cavern is not empty as just in the torch light you can see one figure kneeling with his head down in front of the statue.
You paged Kira with 'You can tell this looks like it's a monk's temple.'
<OOC> Cesran says, "Anyone with knowledge/religion can give me a roll"
GAME: Kyson rolls knowledge/religion: (13)+9: 22
Kira pages: Can I see the statute to possibly identify it?
GAME: Kira rolls knowledge/religion: (3)+7: 10
You paged Kira with 'It's too far away, unless you have low light or darkvision'
<OOC> Cesran says, "Anyone have low-light or dark vision?"
<OOC> Korra doesn't.
<OOC> Kyson says, "Not active."
<OOC> Mel says, "Not I."
Mel blinks as the passage opens into a room, looking like a temple, perhaps. Seeing it's occupied, he wipes his palm on his pantleg and silently eases his shortsword from its sheath. "Anything special we ought to know?" he whispers back to his companions.
You paged Kyson with 'It looks like this is a monk's temple'
Kyson pages: No obvious holy symbols?
You paged Kyson with 'Not yet.'
"Does anyone know what kind of animal could dig-Oh!" Kira's question stops when they reach the cavern, since it's craved... and decorated... and occupied. The scents also seem familiar as her mention of another's home is still fresh in mind. "Forgive us," she calls out politely to the kneeling figure, moving forward to greet, "We didn't mean to intrude and didn't know that this was your home. We were told that a lost heirloom might be here. Have you seen a broken sword?"
<OOC> Kira doesn't, but does have manners.
Crouching down just behind Mel, Korra glances back towards the others, question mirrored in her own eyes. "A temple?" she whispers, grimacing briefly at the outcall of welcome. She turns back towards the hermit-priest, watching cautiously.
<OOC> Cesran says, "Anyone else moving forward"
The young wizard answers the question in a hushed tone. "This looks like a monk's temple. I'd guess Navos but can't be sure..." Well, he -was- trying to be all stealthy but Kira's ... bravado sort of stole his thunder.
<OOC> Korra will kick things later, but will move forward to cover Kira as she advances cheerfully towards doom. :)
<OOC> Cesran says, "Okay for all those moving forward after 10' give me a perception roll"
GAME: Korra rolls Perception: (4)+4: 8
GAME: Kira rolls perception: (5)+9: 14
<OOC> Mel will hang back.
<OOC> Kyson will hold back with mel.
<OOC> Cesran says, "Gonna give Godwyn another 5 minutes before we move on"
Kira moves forward, but not TOO close. After her greeting and explanation, she waits politely and patiently. They are the ones who interrupted and interloped, after all. The resident could be meditating or praying, and she doesn't want to be any more rude than they already have.
<OOC> Cesran says, "Kira and Korra what is your flat footed AC?"
<OOC> Korra says, "Without armor-- 12."
<OOC> Kira's FF is 15.
You paged Korra with 'What did you mean without armor?'
<OOC> Korra says, "But flat-foo take dexterity away--- 19."

The figure that was kneeling rises up, and it's not very tall, barely 3 and a half feet tall if that. The robed figure turns towards the party and you can see that it's a kobold. In draconic it speaks, "So more have come to try to steal my Mistress treasure. You will be dealt with like the others that have come before you." He makes a motion with his hands and from behind two of the pillars on the far end two more robed kobolds come out bearing crossbows. They take aim at Kira and Korra and fire. One hits Kira in the arm, while the other bounced off of Korra's armor.

Blue-white light surrounds his hands and upon his words, "Telae Incendarae!" they form into two bolts and fly from his fingers like white-hot arrowheads. She draws the weapon and it bursts into light, a voice ringing from the adamantine blade. "...will fail!"
She takes in a breath and cries out, "Evil one, be gone!" Her body is enshrouded in a pale blue light, the color of Althea, and her silver armor shines just that much brighter. "Come here, fiend... I'm your target." She points toward him. "Face me, or face the consequences!"

Godwyn levels her weapon toward the master monk. "Let's see how much of a master you are before Althea." With that, she lifts her weapon... and within the blink of an eye, her body is a blur. Three cuts in the space of heartbeats. One of them produces a pale blue flash and a crack of *thunder*, and just like that... Godwyn turns her back and puts her sword away.

You paged Kyson with 'As you have gotten close you see that what the kobold master monk was bowing to was a statue of a black dragon.'
"Please stop! It's over!" Kira beseeches the squirming kobold, and possibly her companions. "We don't want to harm anyone." She doesn't, and assumes most people don't, either.
GAME: Cesran rolls 1d20+7: (6)+7: 13
<OOC> Godwyn says, "Major threat has been handled."
GAME: Cesran advances the initiative order.
Round Two - Init 8. It is now KoboldMonk2's turn! Korra is next!
Godwyn pages: I forfeit my turn and roll Diplomacy to help Kira out with convincing her grappled target to stand down. Cool with that?
You paged Godwyn with 'Do you speak draconic?'
<OOC> Mel says, "Taking a kobold would make it a slave, yes?"
Godwyn pages: Ugh... no. XP
<OOC> Korra says, "Prisoner, at least."
Godwyn pages: Meh.
<OOC> Mel says, "Yes, but if you're keeping him to do work ....?"
Godwyn pages: Then another idea.
GAME: Cesran rolls 1d8+4: (3)+4: 7
Godwyn pages: I forfeit my turn and instead... use Diplomacy on the one that CAN talk and is dying. Let's see what we can learn...
Godwyn pages: Fair?
You paged Godwyn with 'It is still only speaking draconic. Kyson knows it.'
<OOC> Cesran says, "Just a reminder the kobolds are only speaking draconic."
<OOC> Godwyn says, "And thus any attempts at Diplomacy will fail unless you speak it. XD"

<OOC> Godwyn says, "really. Then I have an idea."
<OOC> Godwyn says, "Don't kill this last one."
<OOC> Godwyn says, "I'm going to roll Diplomacy and ask a few questions. ^^"
The kobold that Kira has continues to squirm and try to wriggles free of her grip. The one between Mel and Korra just stands there for a moment and some of its wounds start to heal. This one shouts out for those that speak draconic. "Intruders! Intruders! They've killed Master Kib!"
<OOC> Godwyn says, "You gotta be..."

GAME: You damaged Mel for 5 points. 35 remaining.
Korra grits her teeth beneath her helm. Another quick slice, this one much more vicious than the first blow. "That language always grates on my ears," she says with a frown, silver blade glittering in its arc before the kobold monk. "More to come!" she warns, calling back to her fellows. "Brace!"
From one side of the statue comes another kobold monk. He sees the situation and rushes at the closest adventurer, Mel. The small monk kicks hard at Mel's back and this one looks fresh as it bobs up and down on the balls of its feet.
GAME: Cesran advances the initiative order.

<OOC> Cesran says, "Godwyn!"

Round Three - Init 17. It is now Kyson's turn! KoboldMonkMaster is next!
<OOC> Cesran says, "Kyson!"
Kyson pages: ok, so we've got one left?
You paged Kyson with 'There are now three.'
From afar, Kyson will go after the non-monk one.
Mel recoils as the kobold reacts and strikes back at him. He wasn't expecting that, clearly, and he's all thumbs for a moment as he tries to get into a defensive position. "Hey, no, wait!" he protests. But he did stab the fellow in the back, so what does he expect?
You paged Kyson with 'They are all monks.'
From afar, Kyson assumes that the new one is more monk than crossbowman?
Kyson pages: Force missile to the one fighting with Korra.
You paged Kyson with 'Sure.'

<OOC> Godwyn says, "Kung-fu Kira"
<OOC> Godwyn says, "Go go go!"
Seeing that one of the Kobold crossbowmen that's struggling with Mel is still active, Kyson turns his attention away from the master and the remaining crossbowman that Kira is 'negotiating' with. Again the blue-white glow of magic fills his hand though this time he only sends one, smaller bolt towards the attacker, "Telum Incendarae!" The dart streaks out from his finger tip and burns into the creature's chest.
<OOC> Cesran says, "He's bruised."
GAME: Cesran advances the initiative order.
Round Three - Init 9. It is now KoboldMonk1's turn! KoboldMonk2 is next!
Kira sighs. She didn't want anyone hurt or killed, but she can't have them calling in even more people to contribute to the senseless violence. She shifts her grip on the kobold and applies pressure to throat and carotid to try and render him unconscious.

Korra keeps her silence and her voice, for now. Another slash at the kobold's back-- another marginal widening of the eyes as she misses, yet again. "How---?" she begins, cutting off her words with a breath. And another slice!
The new kobold monk obviously paid better attention to the former master as all three of his punches and kicks land on Mel. He too has adapted a more defensive fighting style, but it doesn't seem to have hampered his offense too much.
GAME: Cesran advances the initiative order.

Round Four - Init 17.
It is now Kyson's turn! Kira is next!
"Ow, ow!" Mel shouts as the kobold attacks him. That hurts, though Godwyn's healing is a huge relief. "Thanks! Working on it." Turning on the kobold, he shouts, "Die, scum!" not caring that the kobolds almost certainly can't understand him. They certainly understand his blade, though, but he's versed in dirty street fighting, and when Korra's attacks draw off the kobold's guard, Mel strikes with his short sword, plunging his blade into its chest. It collapses, and Mel yanks his blade free.
<OOC> Cesran says, "Kyson you are up!"

Korra exhales as the one before her drops like a steel-assisted stone, exhaling a quick breath as she nods her thanks to the others. Pausing only long enough to wipe the sweat from her brow along the back of one hand, she moves forward to the third kobold, blade poising to stab inward-- a quick, jabbing strike punching into his shoulder.
The kobold just growls at Kira as its hit. It follows up with three quick strikes of its own, the first to hitting, but it misses the third.

Godwyn hisses through her teeth as Kira gets slammed into with a flurry of strikes! "Goddess preserve me..." She takes in a breath. "Enough of this!" She pulls off the crystal rose from her neck and lifts it high into the air. "Evening Star, grant us deliverance!"

The words aren't a 'request' of the magic but now more of a 'command' of it as though he were dominating the magic into killing the thing before him. As before, the blue-white glow of magic fills his hand but this time it's more blue than white, darker somehow. The dart streaks out from his finger tip and burns into the creature's chest.

The kobold grins as it sees Kira's hesitation to hurt it. It has no compulsion as it punches her and then goes to kick her. The kick misses though.

Good. Everyone's okay. Godwyn moves to cover the team's backs while they finish their business. Definitely guarded. Which means either they found it, or they were told to defend that position. The question is, which?
Mel seeks to send the fight as he moves up behind the kobold and stabs it. The stab is enough to push the kobold over the edge as it falls down unconsious.
Sweat glistens from her brow as Korra glances at Kira's conflict. "I will have to invest in a net," she mutters to herself. glancing to the others. "Aid her if you can. I'll keep watch here, just in case we have unfriendly welcomes." Sparing a glance back at the struggle (wincing at the kodold's kick), the turns back towards the tunnel, eyeing it silently.
<OOC> Cesran says, "Anyway free rp, kobold monk #1 is unconscious"
Kyson is glad to see the last Kobold go down and calls to the others, "Make sure its tied up - bound hand, foot and tail." The young wizard heads for the 'lead' monk to search is belongings in an attempt to locate the broken blade fragment. "The fragment should be here - about as long as your hand...shiney...but be careful of the blade; don't touch it with your bare hands."
<OOC> Cesran says, "You don't find any blade on him or any of the other kobolds."
<OOC> Cesran says, "Notes the cavern has two exits, one you came out from and the other one were the third kobold came from"
Kira startles as the kobold falls, but immediately recovers to kneel by it. First, she ensures it is still breathing. Then, she binds him. "How should we pick it up? Is it dangerous?"
Korra perks over to the discussion, eyes sinking back into the darksome caves. "We could truss him for now," she suggests. "Question him after, and take a moment to rest. We have no way of knowing what else is down there."
<OOC> Kira has some RL and may be slow for a bit.
Godwyn glances over her right shoulder. "Very much so. Made of Mithral, cuts through just about everything. Not to mention that something happened to the original weapon that might have tainted it. I advise the utmost caution, Sister."
<OOC> Korra says, "This might be a good place to pause for a while. Dinnertime will be sneaking near soon."

In the other cavern Kyson will first smell a mixtures of smells, acid, with spell components, smoke and rot. It's a chamber about 30 feet wide and long, circular shaped. To the left is a workshop that that has all bottles and potions, along with everything you need to scribe scrolls and enchant items. Towards the back is a small to medium sized pile of gold and silver, and some copper. Precious gems and some items can also be seen. The pile is in a shallow pool of water, no more then 1-3 inches deep. On top of that pile is a small blackness. As Kyson enters the blackness shifts and its catlike green eyes open and pin him down with their stare. In an almost purring sibilant voice it speaks in common, "How nice of Master Kib to let me have something to play with..."
A grimace rises from her lips as Korra stares at Kyson, shaking her head as she moves quickly after. "Be *careful*..." she begins, words trailing off as she hears that sibilant voice, eyes narrowing once more as green eyes gleam. "Because there might be something else," she adds, raising her blade as she moves to the young adept's side. One eyes chases to the pile, drawing back reluctantly; she stares at those burning eyes, the first, most obvious potential threat. Caution in all things!
Kira is checking on the remaining kobold when Kyson moves in ahead into the next room. "Yes, becare-" A voice. One that doesn't sound very nice. She finishes her check and moves after to the next room. "And you shouldn't go alone..."
Kira also offers, a little late but still polite, "Hello" to the... whatever it is that's there.
Kyson pauses upon entry to the room, his eyes scanning over the contents and then affixing upon the source of the voice. With an eyebrow raised in question, he bows before the 'blackness' in a quasi-polite gesture and shifts his weight from one foot to the other; waiting for it to strike or speak.
A kobold head pops up from the work bench and a robed kobold comes running out to get in front of the adventurers and the pile of coins and the black shape on top, "Stop...stop right there, no need to step any further." She says holding out a wand that looks like it was made from a stick that's been broken in a couple of places and tied back together with bits of cloth, "You are in the presence of her Magnificientness, Haladraxia, scourge of this swamp." The kobold bows low to the black shape whose green eyes look down upon the kobold, "Mmm thank you Mims. What do you intruders want?"
Korra holds her blade, silvery shield curved in caution. She glances between the bright eyes and the kobold, glancing against to Kyson as she pauses. "Your game," she aside quietly to him, staring at the dark eyes with narrow intent.
Kyson turns his attention to the presence of the robed kobold and speaks plainly, "I have come to recover that which has been thirded - shards of a long sword's blade which I believe may have been collected and brought here." The tone is informative without being accusatory - something akin to a teacher's voice when offering a lecture. "Naturally, her Magnificientness would not want 'rubbish' like that around. I wish simply to reclaim the items and return them to my ah...family. For honor's sake, you understand..."
"We didn't mean to intrude," Kira apologizes and informs. "We didn't know anyone would be in this place, or even what this place was. We didn't mean to harm anyone, either. We're just looking for lost items, as he said."

The kobold nods her head a little bit, "Well yes I collect anything that I think her Magnificientness would like, often times anything that is shiny. I might have picked up shards of a blade." The black shape gets up and prowls around the small pile that it was sitting on. It's easy to see in the light you brought in that its black dragon, a young black dragon though. "Why should I give you anything in my horde I would be willing to trade you for it. How much would you say that this blade shard is worth to you?" The dragon asks as she eyes the adventurers and then focuses on Kira, "What do you mean harm anyone? Who did you harm?"
Korra doesn't close her eyes, but the twitch-- the wince. Cautious, she moves to keep herself between dragon and young mage, shield braced before her. "Be clever!" she advises Kyson quietly, shaking her head. "The sooner we end this, the sooner we can move away."
Kira shakes her head. "I harmed no one, your Magnificentness." Now she nods. "It would be fair for us to offer something in trade. What would you trade the sword shard for?"
The Wizardling glances back to Kira and then back to the young Black before him. "Your magnificence, I believe what my friend is describing is the...uh... 'exercise' that we afforded your servants in your antechamber." Pausing only for enough time to draw a breath he adds, "...And I can say that your followers do your name a great honor. It was all that we could muster to pass by them and approach you to seek your benevolence." For a common-born apprentice, Kyson seems to know how to slather on the charm with a wide brush. Treating the dragon, for he has never met one of her kind before, as an honored Master of the academy, he is mindful of lowering his gaze and rarely bringing his tone to a point where it could be seen as 'rude'. Manners. Manners above all, his mother once taught him. Still holding his carved staff in his hand, the top of which emblazoned with a gout of blue-white fire, he takes a second, quick look around the room to see what kind of light sources they might have - hoping that he might find something to lever against what he wants.
Haladraxia's tail wiggles as she thinks, "Mims come here." The Kobold comes closer and the two whisper in conference together. Finally the dragon pulls away and the kobold named Mims speaks up, "1000 gold pieces..." "Or a giant diamond." The dragon adds in and looks at the adventurers to see what their counter offer will be.
Manners. Korra remembers them, in the same thought and breath as the curtsey, as eating with the proper salad fork, as hiding behind a fan and 'tittering' appropriately... She exhales, shivering as she braces her gaze back. Better to face dragons than be submitted to such horrid things again! Finishing schools... *shiver!* She glances at Kyson, cautious... and curious to what the counteroffer will be.
Kira looks to Kyson, now, too. She doesn't know what anyone else has to offer in trade, but she has very little.
"Giant is a difficult term to understand, your magnificence. A diamond the size of an apple is worth far more than a paltry thousand gold. Besides - wouldn't you want something more...substantive?" His legs start to get the nervous twitch he's known to get, as many other apprentices acquire when standing before their masters, and he has to move. His pacing is in a small line back and forth - no further into the room than where he originally stood, but definitely enough room for him to 'walk and talk' a bit. "A large jewel would be valuable, yes - but also just as easily lost. Why not," he suggests," ask for something more meaningful? More impressive..."
"Like your...name." The apprentice adds after a somewhat dramatic pause.
Kira doesn't understand the offer, but maybe Haladraxia does. She looks back to the dragon to see how their arrangement is going so far.
The Kobold looks at Kyson curiously, "What do you mean like her name? She gives you her name already." The dragon looks skeptical, "I don't think they have any gold. I don't think they want the blade piece at all, which is good because I wasn't too keen on giving it up. It's mine in my horde." The black dragon flops on her horde and stretches out on it. Some coins drop down towards the bottom and the black tail scoops them up before they hit the bottom.
Kira can respond to that, and with a pleasant smile. "No, I do have some gold, but I don't think I have the thousand you asked." Her smile dims some in regret at that. "We do want the shard. That's why we came out here to search for it."
The apprentice explains, "What is more important to you, your excellency - some coins or the fact that I can make your name known to the seven kingdoms? I am a scribe - a historian. I can give you something worth more than coin or jewels. I can give you ... a legend." It's a gambit, but not having a giant diamond or a thousand gold crowns just lying around Kyson is having to improvise. "What would you say to me spreading your name and your deeds far and wide? It is said amongst the Elunites that to make a name immortal it must be written one thousand times in a thousand places." He pauses and bows his head once more. "Songs will be sung about your Magnificence...tales will be spread about your excellency's great deeds. People from this land and the next will fear the very -mention- of your name."
Korra bites down on her tongue, bladetip quivering. She is bound, determined *not* to laugh at the sitatuon. Deadly serious, and still--- humourous in its own, odd way! "Or we could bring books," she suggests, half in jest. "I'm certain a half-decayed swamp in the middle of nowhere is just clamoring for intellectual stimulation!"
"She might not want to be feared?" Kira offers to Kyson, a little unsure now that she understands what he meant. "She seems like a very nice dragon..." She looks to Haladraxia and smiles. "The first I've ever met. I don't think I have as much as you asked, but I can offer you what I have..." Kira pauses to take a step back so she doesn't interrupt more talking and pulls out a pouch to start counting coins.
Haladraxia ponders a little bit as she rakes the coins she's laying on with her claws. "Hmm, I would like that a song about me that yes people should fear me. Sing a song for me right now about how I will be feared and make it a good one. If I'm impressed you can have the blade shard...if not...I get to eat you. Sounds fair? You two can help him your singing better be good." The kobold hmms, "I don't know your Magnificientness...we could use the gold." The dragon huffs, "Nonsense we can get more gold. I want a song."
Korra stares, utterly caught off guard. *Sing?!* She opens her mouth, closing it again, glancing at Kyson with a long, *long* glance. "I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket!" she whispers, panicking. Music. Song. Performance in front of an *audience*. She'd rather face the dragon!
Kyson pages: Ok, my idea is that Kyson is going to reword some kind of lament that he heard in his childhood. Just rearrange the words. So you don't have to really 'sing' but it would be all depressing like - moody and sung at a funeral. I however, do not have performance.
Kira finishes her counting just in time to have her guesses proven wrong? "Oh..." On the bright side, she knows what's in her coin purse, at least. Kira puts it back away and purses her lips. "I don't know much about singing, but I can try." After a pause, she adds, "But I can't let you eat him. A life isn't a fair trade for anything."
Haladraxia hmms, "I don't care, but everyone should sing towards my gloriousness. You too Mims, go join them and sing a great song about me." The kobold sighs deeply and shuffles a bit towards the adventurers. The dragon looks at Kira, "If you sing it badly and offend me it is worth all your lives."
Kyson turns, in his ever-pacing stride and gives the two companions a glance that is somewhere between panic and confusion. Pace. Pace, "Oh yes, of course," he mutters trying to bide time to think of something, "...a song. A wonderful idea your excellency." His eyes fall to the ground as he walks and yet he still tries to think of how to come up with a song that would be the 'doom' of a dragon with a name like hers. How does one rhyme anything with Hala-drax-ia? "In the language of the elves?" he muses to himself and shakes his head a second after, dismissing the idea entirely. Pace. Pace. Pace. Then he stops as though he smacked into a brick wall. With an oddly confident and almost mischievous look to his face he turns to the two women behind him and whispers something quietly. "Just humm along until you get it...it's simple."
Turning to face the dragon, the wizard bows deeply and takes a deep breath. The 'song' that comes out of his mouth is something of a dirge, a lament. It's not so much sung as it is spoken with a lyrical tone to one's voice. It's one of those things that people would start off with one singer, and then others would join slowly - adding their voices to the chorus. The song, an aberration of a traditional funeral dirge, should be known to most from around Alexandria and, if not, the words are quick to pick up.
"I see the darkness...beyond the mountain..." he begins.
"I see the black of night...beyond the trees."
"Hail the lady of doom...daughter of Draconia." The first part is a bit shaky but he starts to stamp the butt of his staff into the floor of the chamber as though he needed something to provide a sort of tempo. "Burner the towns and the villa, behold the glory of ... Haladraxia" he has to stumble to get that name to fit within the melody but it's a close approximation.
The rest of the song seems to be repeating the first two lines and then adding in some description of a great deed that some dragon might do: burning things, eating things, destroying things - it's a fairly simple melody. Slowed down and sung with a bit so that nearly everyone could follow along.
"I don't try to offend.." Kira gets out only that much before Kyson starts the song. She listens for the melody and words, waiting for the second obvious repeat of refrain before she tries to join in. She's grateful that Kyson picked something familiar in melody and slow, simple words.
Korra lowers her blade, tip first into the stony mud of the cavern earth. Shield still at ready, she.... sings. In a sense. Humming along the with the words of the tune, voice more confident as she follows along. Kyson's game; Kyson's plan-- and with a silent plea to unseen stars that everything go well!

Mims the robed kobold sings and it's horribly off key and she doesn't get the words right. It finally ends and Mims looks sheepishly down at the ground, "I'm sorry your Magnificientness." The dragon looks pleased, "Ah yes very good song about me. Mims you were horrible come over towards me." The kobold moves forward in front of the dragon. "Good now hold out your wand and break it." The kobold whimpers, but does so with a audible snap and the dragon nods, "Good." The dragon starts to dig around in the pile, "Where is that blade piece Mims...did I get it to you because it was picking me."
Kyson slowly lifts his head - having lowered it after the last note of the song as if in reverence to the dragon's name. Only when 'her magnificence' speaks does he raise his head and offers a glance back to his two compatriots. His sea-blue eyes are bright, sparkling and nearly saucer-sized in realization that they might, actually, pull it off. Turning his gaze back to the floor just in front of the black dragon he waits.
Kira is also more than a little surprised, but happily so. She knows that she is no bard, and Korra seemed even less enthused... and yet they managed very well. She looks worriedly to Haladraxia and Mims when she's called over, then winces as the wand is snapped. Still, no one was eaten as she feared.
Haladraxia growls in frustration as she's digging through her coins, "Mims! Where is that blade shard?!" The dragon sounds like she is getting angry. Mims is trying to dig through her stuff, "I'm sorry your Magnifiecietness. I'm searching for it. Are you sure it's not at the bottom of your pile."
Kira starts to offer to help look, but decides to wait. Looking through other peoples' belongings isn't very nice.
Kyson remains where he's standing, but lets his eyes wander around the room in the hopes of spying the edge or something of the sword shards. "You are most kind, your magnificence..." he bows his head once more, trying not to make it look as though he were getting impatient.

Godwyn sits back and observes all this. The dragon, for lack of a better term, is of no consequence to her. She scans the corners of the room for a different reason... watching for more reinforcements. Yet she says nothing. This is Kyson's show after all.

Haladraxia continues to dig and she frowns, "I can't find it." She looks over at the adventurers and looks at Kira, "You come help me." Mims the robed kobold rushes in between Kira and the dragon, "No no she doesn't need to help. I'll help." Haladraxia frowns, "No she can help you look in your things you are always experimenting, you didn't melt it down did you." Mims shakes her head, "No I didn't. I'd never touch anything from your pile, but she might steal something."
Kira frowns at that thought. "I won't take anything, but I will help if you'll let me. I understand you don't know me, but I promise I won't steal." She steps tentatively to help Mims, since that's what she was asked to do.
Kyson offers, raising his voice just slightly to be heard over the rustling of coins and things. "Your excellency..." he pauses for a moment to gain the dragon's attention, "... with your permission, I would offer my paltry magic to assist you in finding the shards." He takes a second or two to let her consider the idea and then adds, "It is, obviously, a poor shadow of your own magical gifts, but I would hate that you should be disturbed for a moment longer than necessary if I could assist you."
Haladraxia looks at Mims, "See she won't steal." Mims shakes her head, "No please don't." Haladraxia frowns, "Mims go look in your stuff." The kobold looks back at Kira and then shuffles off towards her stuff but keeps an eye on Kira. Haladraxia looks at Kyson, "She is going to help me." She says looking towards Kira.

You paged Kira with 'As soon as you touch the coins you realize that the horde of coins and gems and the dragon herself is all an illusion as your hands go right through it and you realize that none of the coins or the dragon ever left the pile.'
Kira pages: Ok. I'm confused. 1) I thought I was helping Mims and 2) I thought the dragon never left the pile anyhow?
You paged Kira with 'Nope you were helping Haladraxia look through her pile. that's why Mims didn't want you to help. Mims knew that the dragon was an illusion.'
You paged Kira with 'And you realize why she never left her pile.'
Kira pages: Ok. So the pile I'm looking at is an illusion.
You paged Kira with 'Yep. Your hands go right through it.'
Kira pages: Can I see the real hoard and dragon?
You paged Kira with 'There is no real hoard or dragon.'
Kira starts to help, but blinks almost instantly. "This is strange..." She looks around and then to Mims. "She isn't real... none of this is? Where is Haladraxia? Is she even here? Where are the shards?"
<OOC> Godwyn says, "Oh..."
<OOC> Godwyn says, "I see what this is."
Mims' eyes go wide and she shakes her head as she holds up her finger to her lips and tries to shush her. Haladraxia cranes her head around, "What I'm real...get out get away from my horde right now." Mims sighs, "No please stop..."
<OOC> Godwyn says, "Does anyone else have to make a save?"
<OOC> Cesran says, "Not yet"
Godwyn glances toward Kira, and after a few moments, she sports a grimace. "Wonderful." Her eyes train on the room itself for something else now, the source of the illusion. If it's at all visible, that is.
Kyson blinks in surprise as Kira comments that something's wrong. "What?" he asks and takes a step -towards- the dragon to see what might happen or if he might be able to discern what it is that's going on. A hint of anger starts to ride up his spine and out through his eyes as his muscles start to sense up.
<OOC> Godwyn says, "Can I stop him?"
<OOC> Kyson says, "stop who?"
<OOC> Godwyn says, "You =P"
<OOC> Godwyn says, "An illusion can still kill you."
<OOC> Kyson says, "sure, you can throw a hand up. I just took a step. :)"
Godwyn steps forward and places a hand on Kyson's right shoulder. "That... is inadvisable."
Mims tries to get back between the adventurers, "No stop get back away from her." Haladraxia hisses and starts to rear up and it looks like acid is frothing out of her mouth and dripping down onto the coins that hiss loudly.
<OOC> Godwyn says, "See?"
Kira frowns. "Haladraxia isn't real..." She keeps her attention on Mims. "Please, Mims. We made the trade. Do you have the shards that were promised?"
Mims shakes her head, "No no she is real...she is." The black dragon spits acid as Kira, but the acid has no effect on Kira. Mims starts to cry, "No no Haladraxia...don't do that."
Yeah, that's just about proves that the black dragon was some illusory construction. Kyson, however, does not appreciate being bluffed. Turning his attention to the Kobold, Mims, the wizardling doesn't walk, doesn't stride, he -stalks- his way over to the creature, staff in hand and, for any real description, murder in his eyes. "Where... are the shards?" he demands in a tone far more dark and deep than one would expect from a young man of barely twenty-two summers.
<OOC> Godwyn says, "Hmm..."
<OOC> Godwyn says, "I want to try something."
<OOC> Godwyn says, "I am going to make a Diplomacy roll to try and get some answers... but also to see if I can't just stop Kyson from beating the snot out of the poor thing that just had her religion shattered. XD"
Now it's Kira who puts a hand up. Her whole arm, in fact, to try and block Kyson while still talking to Mims. "Do you have the shards? The dragon isn't real, but our agreement was."
<OOC> Kira says, "Whose religion shattered?"
<OOC> Godwyn says, "The Kobold's XD"
<OOC> Godwyn says, "Then again"
<OOC> Godwyn says, "I could be misinterpreting XD"
<OOC> Godwyn says, "So let me ask."
<OOC> Godwyn says, "Since I am ostesibly late to this due to RL... what is going on here."
<OOC> Kyson says, "all in the log but simply: We think Mims has the shards."
<OOC> Godwyn says, "Right. That much is obvious. The question is, how do we get them from her without violence. The poor thing is obviously distressed."
<OOC> Godwyn is trying to find out why exactly that is, from just one person seeing through an illusion.
<OOC> Kira just shared her thoughts, but realizes you're not on the plot room channel.
<OOC> Godwyn says, "True."
Mim's cringes and she shuffles over to her workbench to take out a plain box and she opens it up as it has two shards inside of it. "Here are your shards." Haladraxia starts to fade as the magic has been broken. Mim watches as she cries, "I'm sorry Haladraxia...I'm sorry Master. I tried to keep her from finding out."
Godwyn folds her arms for a moment, looking toward the box. What could be powerful enough to create an illusion without even moving a single inch or making an invocation of any kind? Surely not Mims...
...which worries her. Deeply. But she doesn't speak for the moment. After all, it's just a hunch.
Kyson deftly crosses the room to get to the shards; almost snatching them out of the box. "I think we should leave now..." he comments and quickly secures the shards in his satchel with the hilt. Not wanting to make matters worse for the Kobold or whatever it was attempting to convey with the illusion, the wizardling glances to Kira to suggest that they should head out quickly.
"Thank you, Mims." Kira offers her a smile as she hands over the shards. She blinks at Kyson's abruptness. "There's no reason to be rude..." Back to Mims. "I'm sure she'll be back. If you brought Haladraxia here, you can bring her back."
Mims sniffles, "I didn't bring her here, I’m not that powerful, my master...he was a great illusionist and I was his apprentice/slave. Haladraxia was his masterpiece a permanent illusion that could think for herself...My master wasn't very well respected because he focused on illusions, but he was a great illusionists and you destroyed him." The kobold starts to cry again.
Godwyn glances toward the blade. The illusionist... no, she had to find out. The Sentinel clears her throat. "Would you be so kind as to tell us the name of this illusionist, so we can tell him how magnificent his creation was? We did not come here to break or destroy, but to find and understand."
There's something to Kyson's attitude. He came for the shards and, now, is in possession of them. The feelings of the Kobold seem to matter to him very little. The anger at being fooled by the illusion still lingers in his movements, like a twitchy feline that's just waiting to pounce on something. As the kobold starts to cry once more, the wizardling shakes his head and turns to leave the room.
<OOC> Kyson says, "Kyson's behavior is just foreshadowing. :)"
<OOC> Godwyn says, "Oh yeah... but to what end?"
Mims sniffles, "Myrion the Magnificent. He's dead, Haladraxia was his lasting creation." The kobold takes out a rag to blow her nose.
Kira offers a hand on Mims shoulder in an attempt to console and comfort. "I'm sorry, we didn't mean to interrupt anything.... but, you're his student." She adds a hopeful smile to her offerings. "In time, I'm sure you'll be able to create something just as wonderful, or even better."
Godwyn nods. "I'll remember the name."
More importantly.... a name means a lead. Leads are meant to be followed.
From afar, Kyson will rifle / search the bodies of the kobolds we took care of in the outside room on his way out.
Mims sniffles, "Please just go." The kobold sighs as she's now all alone in the swamp and she gets up to move back to her workbench.
Godwyn turns toward the chamber's exit, her head bowed, half in respect... and half with contemplation. Something wasn't right about all this, and she couldn't put her finger on what. The weapon had a big part in it as usual, but that name... she couldn't help but feel it was important as well.
She'd investigate as soon as she got back to Alexandria.
