- APL: 9
- Encounter 1: 1 Vrock CR 9
A man wearing a magicians robe and a big maniacal smile on his face walks about at the center of the street, causing much traffic and scorn from the people around. "Thank you, thank you, kind citizens of Alexandria, specifically you who live in the temple district. I am about to provide you with an entertainment and it is to die for!" He laughs hysterically as prances around crazy like. All of a sudden, bursting out of the windows of the adjacent buildings, fire and explosion!
Chaos erupts immediately as aerial creatures take to wings and begin attacking everyone on the ground. More fire and explosion detonate all around with people and body part getting blown all across the streets and plastered into the walls.
All this time, the maniacal laugh of a man can be heard...
Ionus emerges from the Temple of Daeus in a rush, the faint glow of the surrounding manalamps glinting off his armor as he holds up...a ladle? (Have you taken cooking lessons with Greta? No? You might need more than a simple apron too!) "What IS ALL THIS RUCKUS..." There's a frown as he takes a moment to study the mayhem, "...Daeus deliver.." He mutters.
Godywn made for a sprint as she heard the sound of glass breaking with explosive force, and the sound of a man laughing as if he'd come unhinged.
Of course when she took note of the chaos he'd caused, she was *certain* he'd lost his mind. Yet another attack on sacred ground, only this time she was here to do something about it. Godywn grimaced and withdrew her bow as she glanced upward. "Right... keep the sky clear first."
Sunblades, Lancers, Sentinels and all the other temple faction guards are already out and about engaging the myriads of demonic entities that has been set loose right in the middle of the temple district. As they do battle against a very chaotic environment, a creature lands right in front of Godwyn and her company. A creature as tall as a giantborn is tall, if not taller. But instead of a head, this one has a vulture's head on it. Suddenly, it begins to move. Stomping its feet on the ground and raising its arm up and moving in circles. You sense the air around the temple getting charged up for some strange reason as the heavens themselves begin to darken.

Godwyn grimaced as the creature landed in front of her... and started to dance. "I don't know what you're getting ready to do, but that was a tactical error." She took in a breath and cried to the heavens as she pulled out an arrow. "Forward Unto Destiny!"
The battle cry of the Sentinels triggered a burst of azure light from her armor and weapons as she pulled back the string... and fired.
The first shot landed, and the arrow broke on his armor. She didn't care.
Godwyn pulled another arrow with practiced ease and fired again... and the shot struck true, a blue streak of light instead of a projectile. The sound of the very air giving way could be heard even as the arrow dug deep. Then, it exploded as if reacting to the wrongness of the creature before her.
"Right, now then. Let's see what you've got."
The arrow that got lodged to its neck gives vulture man some discomfort, but otherwise it continues to dance...

Ionus glares as the vulture-man begins it's dark dance and an arm stretches forth, "In the name of the Father, I rebuke thee! Begone from this world and return to the...WHEREVER YOU CAME FROM!!!" Perhaps it's the unusual invocation, perhaps it's the fact that the prayer is called forth by the flinging of a ladle...or perhaps there are other dark, factors that stay the moment...In any event, the Vulture-man seems completely unfazed..
GAME: NEW ROUND!

Rhar growls as strange stuff stars growing on her and Gurr and others. "NOHURTPACK!" It's a turkey, so she chops at it with her sharp stick. Swings with her big round stick. And there's a lot of biting. Gurr bites. Even the relief-carved wolf on her shield snarls as it comes to life and chews on it. Everyone loves turkey. It's Gurr that grabs hold and tugs it down, though.
GAME: Benthus advances the initiative order.
Round Two - Init 11. It is now Godwyn's turn! Ionus is next!

Godwyn gave a nod as Gurr did his work. The beast crashed to the ground and she took the time to switch weapons as it fell. "Good job. Now then..." She drew her blade and gave it an expert twirl. "This is the part where you stay down!" With a snarl, she charged at the downed demon and sliced just at its right leg. It might not have felt that arrow, but the clap of thunder and the gash would certainly get notice.
And that was exactly what she wanted.
GAME: Benthus advances the initiative order.
Round Two - Init 8. It is now Ionus' turn! Vulture-man is next!
GAME: Ionus casts Searing Light. Caster Level: 10 DC: 17 GAME: Ionus rolls ranged-4: (10)+9+-4: 15 GAME: Ionus rolls 1d20+10: (16)+10: 26 (Bypass SR: success) GAME: Ionus rolls 5d8: (25): 25
Ionus drops the ladle with a clang that's otherwise lost in the dim confusion of the surrounding battle(s). Though the hand does not fall, no it stays pointed straight, vying for the vile vulture's destruction as the wrath divine shines forth from said finger to strike at the creatures's heart. "By the Light of Daeus, You shall not Stay" (and well everyone knowing Ionus can just almost hear him end that as 'stay-us'...because, rhyming is easier to remember!)
Even before the light fades, the priest is wading into the fray -- "Friends, if you're blade is turned away -- then let us take a moment to pray."
GAME: NEW ROUND!
Benthus advances the initiative order. Round Three - Init 18. It is now Vulture-man's turn! Renfrey is next!

Rhar made the turkey scream. So she keeps hitting it. "Stop noise! Stop moving!" She smacks it with her sharp metal stick, her not so sharp metal stick, and Gurr gnaws on it more. Maybe it's not the best turkey, since it's awful tough.
GAME: Benthus advances the initiative order.
Round Three - Init 11. It is now Godwyn's turn! Ionus is next!
<OOC> Godwyn says, "Executing full attack sequence. XD" GAME: Godwyn rolls Smite+7: (3)+13+3+7: 26 GAME: Godwyn rolls Power Smite-5+7: (15)+13+3+-3+-5+7: 30 GAME: Godwyn rolls PS Damage: (8)+14+9: 31 GAME: Godwyn rolls PS Damage: (7)+14+9: 30
Godwyn took a brief glance around. The others didn't seem to have any effect, besides Ionus. This was not going to end well if the next attack wasn't decisive.
Then the creature screamed.
She grimaced as the noise merely buzzed her ears, and then noticed that not everyone was too happy to hear a high-pitched noise like that. Okay, no more screeching from you.
Godwyn closed her eyes and tuned out the noise, ignoring Rhar's response to the insult. "Althea guide my blade." It appeared her prayer, brief as it was, could be heard... because her armor and weapons flared with sapphire light. Godwyn opened her eyes and lifted her sword. "Now as Ionus put so eloquently... BEGONE!"
The sword fell on the same spot she'd attacked before. Not once, but twice.
She cut the leg clean off, and all at once, as if obeying her command, the demon was sucked back to whence it came.
The temple defenders are getting the upper hand now. Most of the demons that have been brought in have been banished or destroyed. But the fire that is raging around the temple district continue to blaze. Fire emergency teams are coming in, but the many faithful clerics and their subordinates are making use of their god-given abilities to put the fire down quickly. And when that is done, the search for the dead and the wounded begin. Some of the casters in the temples begin clearing the place of the rubble as well mending things that needed to be fixed. Had this assault been anywhere but the temple district, the damages would have taken longer to repair.
In the confusion, no one noticed that all the orphans inside the Althean temple are gone. Until someone screamed at the discovery.
Godwyn's light faded as she put her blade away, giving her Goddess a silent thanks. First thing she did? Look around for the perpetrator! But the more she looked, the more it seemed he'd fled in the confusion. Godwyn's eyes narrowed. "The second attack on sacred ground I've witnessed..."
Then she heard the scream and sprinted toward the orphanage. "...and it was a distraction!" With that, she made her way inside the now empty orphanage with a scowl. "Right. Please calm down, ma'am..."
She took a look around. "...please give me something, you scoundrel. Where did you go?"
(To be continued...)
